St. John's Monastery; WikiProject Agriculture

(moved here from User talk:Ecoleetage to maintain unified discussion, please move back when responding)

Hello! When you have a chance, please check your e-mail -- I sent over text for the expansion of your work-in-progress article on St. John's Monastery (I didn't want to post it here or on your WIP User page). I also want to know what role, if any, I could play in helping to expand WikiProject Agriculture. Feel free to respond on my Talk Page. Cheers! Ecoleetage (talk) 14:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the e-mail! I was surprised that you had found so much information on the topic. Maybe the variation in naming was the problem I was having. I will move the article to article space and you can add your information. If I post it the attribution would be wrong. I was hoping to get the article to WP:DYK standards, but that requires a large expansion over a very brief period, that's why I held the article in userspace. I also haven't had time to work on it recently. I think I put more photos of it on commons and I'm sure I have many more, though some I may need to get permission from others (either other photographers or people who show clearly in the photos). The article will move today with a redirect from my userspace.
As for WP:AG there is a lot to be done. I haven't been as active on Wikipedia in general over the past couple months as I had been before. I hope to pick it back up soon. As for the project, look at the to do list and the talk page and you should find a lot to do. One issue I'd been working on was naming of breed lists. There was a pretty thin discussion on one of the naming guideline pages in which it was agreed that we can omit "List of" from the article names of breed lists. The link is somewhere on the talk page for the Ag project. So my question was should they be named "Breeds of X" or "X breeds". I never got any input. Of course there are a lot of articles that need work too. Thanks again.--Doug.(talk contribs) 16:05, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, research is one area where I seem to have some degree of talent. The problem was the English name -- few sources call it St. Elijah's. I believe we can swing a DYK if we have a great hook and the right number of characters.
On Ag...let me take a look at the page and report back with some ideas. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 16:11, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
P.S. I expanded the monastery article some more. I also changed the name of the article to Dair Mar Elia (Saint Elijah's Monastery) -- it is more commonly known by its Arabic name than its English name. I also had enough text to nominate it for DYK consideration (it is on the DYK page as a July 4 entry). This was great -- thanks for letting me be a part of this! P.P.S. I had to restore the footnote source that you removed from the lead paragraph on the monastery -- we need that because that is the hook I have for the DYK nomination on the article. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 20:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

My first article for WikiProject:Agriculture

Hey there, I just posted my first article for WikiProject:Agriculture. The article is a profile of Henry D. Edelman, the head of Farmer Mac (and, arguably, one of the most important ag-related people in Washington). I also put this article up for DYK consideration (there is a somewhat amusing hook -- Edelman was actually the first person hired at Farmer Mac and came to the office to discover no one else was hired). I will have more ag-related articles coming soon. Thanks for having me as part of the project! Ecoleetage (talk) 03:44, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

PS I am also writing a second article, a new version of Potting soil (an earlier version was deleted a year ago and never restored). Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:06, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
PPS I just got word that Henry D. Edelman received a DYK honour today. Score one for WikiProject:Agriculture! :) Ecoleetage (talk) 09:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Sharing the DYK honours

Updated DYK query On 7 July, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Dair Mar Elia (Saint Elijah's Monastery), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Help!

I am not positive who to ask this, so if I should be asking someone else please direct me to them. I have lost the password to a previous account and I want to bring my very short edit history over to my new account. What should I do? Some Semi-Random Dude (talk) 00:45, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Proposal for standard infobox for History of [country] templates

Hi there! You're a member of WikiProject History, so I'm just informing you about a proposal I've made about standardizing History of [country] templates (like Template:History of France). The discussion is located at the talk page for WikiProject History—your comments and criticism are welcome. Thank you. Mr. Absurd (talk) 05:04, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
