Species names capitalization

[edit]

Hello DenesFeri,

Thank you for your recent review of the Golden-collared toucanet page. The species name listed as a synonym in the taxobox was capitalized as that was how it was written when originally described. While the modern convention is to always write the species name without capitalization, I have found no record that this species was ever referred to as Pteroglossus reinwardtii (not capitalized) before it was re-classified to the present Selenidera reinwardtii. As a historical record, Pteroglossus Reinwardtii would be correct and I have repeated that convention (or error!) across many different species and genera pages. 'Cheers, Loopy30 (talk) 12:00, 2 February 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, OK than; I thought that was a mistake, but if is a historical record, than I will reverted it. Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 15:47, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Plant List as a reference

[edit]

The Plant List is now rather out of date, particularly for genera that have been changed since it was last updated. I'm inclined to use Plants of the World Online now, at http://www.plantsoftheworldonline.org/. The connecting term, like "var." or "subsp.", in a botanical name isn't italicized. Peter coxhead (talk) 21:30, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Peter coxhead:, OK, thank you for telling me this and the refrence link! From now on I will use this. Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 08:55, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Whale shark edit

[edit]

Hi Denes, you recently made a large change in the fossil range for the whale shark without citing a source. Without a source, no one knows what the basis is, if any, for your edit. Please add your source(s) and include an edit summary explaining what you are doing in the future when making such edits. By the way, your kinkajou edit is incorrect. Regards, WolfmanSF (talk) 20:24, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @WolfmanSF:, I changed the a fossil range for the whale shark because the taxobox and the categories do not matched. Further more in the articles's past it was Paleocene - Selandian is a stage of the Paleocene epoch. So if the taxobox has right than the categories below must be changed. Both can't exist together. And about the kinkajou, I'm not sure. Frédéric Cuvier and Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire wrote the Histoire naturelle des mammifères (4 vols., 1819–1842). Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 10:08, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the categories should go. If someone adds a source to indicate a Paleocene first appearance, they can be restored. Regarding Frédéric Cuvier, the French article indicates "He began his tour of France when his brother called him to him in Paris in 1797. He then discovered natural history...". Also, while Frédéric began collaborating with Saint-Hilaire in 1818, his older brother Georges began corresponding with Saint-Hilaire in 1794. So, a 1795 date can only correspond to Georges Cuvier. WolfmanSF (talk) 21:39, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @WolfmanSF:, OK. I'm not an expert on this, so I believe you. Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 09:19, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
