Your assistance please[edit]

The record shows you deleted File:J-6 Shenyang.jpg. User:Gerd 72, the contributor who uploaded this image uploaded about one hundred images of Albanian military installations or equipment, one or two at a time, over the last two and a half years. Most of the image they uploaded were deleted, in one fell swoop, about a month ago.

I looked at User:Gerd 72's talk page. I thought they offered a very credible explanation as to how they got access to that Albanian military installations and equipment.

I could see that a small minority of the images Gerd 72 uploaded were scans of previously published images. Many good faith uploaders make the mistake of thinking they possess intellectual property rights to scans of PD material. I'd like to confirm that. Would you mind taking a look at this image, and telling me if it were a scanned image, or an ordinary photo?

Adil Omar Page Creation[edit]

We were wondering if you could unblock the creation for the Adil Omar wikipedia page. This artist page was blocked in 2007 when it was created without any references... Since then, he has accomplished a lot more in his field and career, is a notable figure, and we would create a page, professionally and from a neutral viewpoint, with references and reliable sources if you please un-protect it... Do let us know, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.153.27.229 (talk) 18:46, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of personal information from ANI[edit]

You may wish to know that "Randy from Boise" is a phrase used to indicate a hypothetical person whose opinions are worthless, rather than being the actual identity of any person participating in that ANI discussion. See the quotation at this user talk page which links to a quotation from 2006. Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:22, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This (mis)use of oversight is exceptionally concerning. Do you understand how to use the tool that has been granted you? I think not. Pedro :  Chat  21:43, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe he is a Steward and therefore has global tools at will? Pedro :  Chat  21:55, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding was that Stewards are not supposed to use their global tools on Wikis that have enough functioning functionaries to function. Is that not accurate? Hipocrite (talk) 22:01, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not. Steward tool use is detailed at Wikipedia:Global_rights_policy#Stewards. It states "In emergency situations where local users are unable or unavailable to act, stewards are asked to use their global rights to protect the best interests of Wikipedia." Witholding judgement until this gets sorted out. It would be useful if DerHexer could briefly outline the interactions that he undertook when using his steward tools here. How was this "violation" brought to your attention? Hipocrite (talk) 22:05, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here Pedro :  Chat  22:09, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not you, DerHexer. I'm trying to figure out if he was approached to oversight this by someone else or if he was just doing his daily. Hipocrite (talk) 22:32, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the certainty as to who oversighted coming from? The AN/I discussion says DerHexer removed the quote but couldn't tell who oversighted it. The global permissions for stewards don't appear to include the hiding of revisions, "hiderevision". The user rights log doesn't indicate any change in DerHexer's rights here. The local rights here are administrator. The global rights log which would show changes to the stewards rights also doesn't appear to have changed. Am I missing something? --82.7.40.7 (talk) 22:22, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
yeah - a username. Pedro :  Chat  22:25, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's one thing I don't have. Don't see it matters much, anyone can look at the AN/I discussion where no one confirms the oversighter, and the logs linked show what they show. I maybe wrong in this (the logs and sources of rights seem far more complex than they used to be), but I can't see any certainty as to who did the oversighting. --82.7.40.7 (talk) 22:29, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

-- Adherent of the Enlightenment 10.0 (talk) 16:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Beispiel:

-- Adherent of the Enlightenment 10.0 (talk) 16:43, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nur wegen nicht-links-seins -- Adherent of the Enlightenment 10.0 (talk) 16:50, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

-- Adherent of the Enlightenment 10.0 (talk) 16:57, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dem Antragssteller ging es doch wieder darum, einen unliebsamen User wegzukriegen. Ich finde es ist eine ausgesprochene Frechheit. That's just one opinion. I prefer transparency and reversibility instead of
quickness or efficiency.

Surely you're not suggesting it's preferable that sensitive, private, or dangerous information remain visible longer, just so that its removal can be transparently referred to at some future date? –xenotalk 20:43, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clicking the delete button is much faster than using RevisionDelete. Restoring the remaining revisions is of course another issue. But sensitivity is already given when the page got deleted. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:36, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, pages with revisions more than 5000 cannot be deleted by admins. So high-traffic pages like ANI or most admin talk pages can't be given this treatment. –xenotalk 18:38, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I'm not really sure if it would be possible via API; but at least stewards are able to use the bigdelete right. Maybe also oversights should be given that right. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:02, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't help your run-of-the-mill admin. Oversight certainly doesn't need it because they can already use revisionDelete. And of course, now so can administrators so this little debate is moot =) Cheers, –xenotalk 15:42, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hit limit[edit]

I left this same message on your Wikimedia talk page, not sure where is better. Thanks again...

Hi, I was merging my move-archived user talk page histories into one big one, and when I went to delete the new big one to merge one more in...I couldn't do it..gave me this notice:
  • "This page has a large edit history of over 5,000 revisions. Deletion of such pages has been restricted to stewards to prevent accidental disruption of Wikipedia. Please contact one for assistance."
Would it be be possible for you to delete the page for me, so I can split it into less-than-5000-edit-history chunks? This is the page: [4]. Thanks! Dreadstar 07:01, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks DerHexer! I'll give it a try, and if I have problems, I'll let you know! Much appreciated! Say, do you happen to know where the 5000 edit limit is documented anywhere? I couldn't find it... Dreadstar 18:09, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done! I was able to restore the page in 1500 edit chunks and move them to new archive pages! I'm still unsure as to why I hit a 5000 edit limit on deletion, especially since there weren't 5000 edits; the total number of edits was a little over 3000. Something in the underlying system, perhaps...corrupt file or header. Anyway, I'm in good shape with three new archives of my moved user talk page edits.[5][6][7]. Thanks so much for your help! Mistaken deletion?[edit]

I see you deleted a user talk page citing U1. However U1 does not allow for the deleting user talk pages:

  • Personal user pages and subpages (but not user talk pages) upon request by their user. In some rare cases there may be administrative need to retain the page. In exceptional cases user talk pages may be deleted via Miscellany for Deletion (see right to vanish); they are not eligible for speedy deletion under this criterion.

If the user wants his talk page deleted then he needs to make a request at MFD. If there's anything that needs oversighting then that should be handled separately from a deletion.   Will Beback  talk  11:37, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Kermanshahi[edit]

Hi. You blocked User:Kermanshahi for sockpuppetry, but I believe that this is old history. I have encountered and blocked a lot of these editors (Jouke Bersma, Trotse Roma, The Bold Guy, ...) and reverted a lot of their edits (like some of the edits by User:Pierlot, who is now blocked for sokcpuppetry, surprise). However, while Kermanshahi initially was part of the same gang, he seems to have left behind these things years ago now, and I don't believe that he has sockpuppeteered since. He may have other editing problems, but I don't think we should block people now for things in the far past. If you have more evidence that I am not aware of, or other reasons to block him anyway, no problem of course, but if not, I'ld like you to reconsider the block. If you keep him blocked, perhaps it is best that you also note this on his talk page, as is usually the case. Fram (talk) 06:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He is now appealing that block and frankly it sounds pretty compelling to me. The only thing you have noted in the block log is a page on the Dutch Wikipedia. If that's all the evidence you have that he is engaging in disruptive socking on this project I don't find that adequate reason to block this user. I've placed his unblock request on hold pending your reply. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:01, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
From what I've seen, Kermanshahi's recent conduct here is pretty much what's described at http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:MoiraMoira/Overleg_gebruiker:Kermanshahi/blockmsg - the editing pattern is basically the same. I blocked him or her for abusing other editors in December, and there have been several subsequent complaints lodged on their talk page since. Nick-D (talk) 23:14, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was asked to comment here by DerHexer as nl-wiki admin. It is 1 or 2 or 3 persons also impersonating each other. They are / he is from The Netherlands. We lost track of all the made up stories and fake accusations and fake identities <sigh>. All stories are fake, all things said and done are wrong often. Important is that the articles on various subject keep suffering on various wikipedia versions because of the disruptive edits, wrong additions, editwars and much more as can be found on the file I compiled. It is up to you on en-wiki to reconsider the block of course. I only can advice you to keep in mind articles suffer, people keep getting problems with the edits and it costs tuns of energy to repair damage done by many editors. I could give you lots of links like this one for example or this one or the total sockpuppet madness here (you need google translate). I also can give you various links to checkusers done on nl-wiki over the years. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 17:48, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to try and get a global block you will have to do it through the front door. I'm not aware of any policy that requires or even permits a user to be blocked here because of suspicion of sockpuppetry on a different project. I'm afraid I feel I have no chice but to unblock this user. If they cause problems here, they can be blocked here. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:07, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_medical_examiners - contains many who are not in fact MEs. The whole article should probably be scrapped. I picked someone at random. Hopefully you can help or know someone who can. I figure your sorcerer's powers might come in handy. 174.91.6.51 (talk) 16:21, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview at Wikimania 2011[edit]

Hi DerHexer.

My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller at the Wikimedia Foundation. We're exploring new ways to explain why Wikipedia is so special and we’ve started a Wikipedia Stories Project, where we’re chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community, especially editors and active contributors in the movement like you. I'll be traveling to Wikimania next month to collect stories for our 2011 Fundraiser. While there I'd love the chance to meet with you and hear your thoughts about Wikipedia (and maybe about being a Nikonian--I have that same flash:). We’ll have a schedule of available times for you to sign up if you’re interested, but right now, we’d like to make the initial contact to gauge your interest. Please let me know by emailing me at mroth@wikimedia.org or responding on my talk page. Thank you, Matthew Roth 23:05, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See this posting Xeno made two weeks ago. Regards SoWhy 10:21, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Afaics, a note haven't been left there before the RfC so that they for example could have explained why it is not very useful to aggregate power and give one body a set of dangerous rights. Or the reasons why it was useful that they did this job before. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:28, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see. On the other hand, as far as I understand meta:Stewards, their role is to fill in for local groups that have no active members on a certain project and hence they are subject to local policy. As such, their input in an RFC like that should not be in the role of stewards but in the role of members of the local project and as such, the same rules should apply to them as do to other members of said project. Also, per meta:Bureaucrat, there are already a number of projects, including meta itself, where crats are allowed to act this way. On a side note, thanks for pointing out that some pages are outdated due to this change. I fixed the two you mentioned and will look for others. Regards SoWhy 11:19, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page Ashraf Al Hajuj[edit]

Dear DerHexer, I am trying to change the article about Ashraf El-Hojouj, which appears to be "an attempt against the integrity of the Wikipedia". I don't know how my changes can endanger the "integrity of Wikipedia", as much as the only thing that I am aiming to is that the innocent person doesn't appear as the children-murderer. Apparently, the creator of the mentioned page was quite a retarded person, who showed no critical thinking and totally consumed Gaddafi's scenario and who could not even spell the name of the person correctly! I just want to make some justice. That's it. I cannot see any "vandalism" in it, contrary, I can see attempts to make obstacles to the justice from your side. If you support this call for justice, I would kindly ask you to delete this page at all, because it is false and lying. With all due respect, Y. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.168.166.15 (talk) 17:17, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm not that much active on English Wikipedia anymore. I mainly focus on my steward and sysop “job” on German Wikipedia. But from time to time I also fight vandalism here. Actors Pages[edit]

Hi DerHexer,
I wanted to create the page reagrding a website called Actors Pages. The link to the official website is [8]. When starting to edit the article space, I saw a red box on the top of the page which stated that:

A page with this title has previously been deleted. If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the deleting administrator using the information provided below.

18:55, 7 December 2007 DerHexer (talk | contribs) deleted "Talk:Actors Pages" ‎ (orphaned talk page)

I don't know regarding what subject or due to what reason the previous page was deleted. I wanted to take your permission to create this page. This website has gained popularity in the United States and Canada, So I thought to add some information in Wikipedia regarding it. My purpose is not advertising and I am strictly against it on Wikipedia. The tone used in the article which I have written is in compliance with the Wikipedia's neutrality tone. If you grant me permission I would like to proceed. If you advise me not to, I won't add it. Looking forward for your response Sir.
Thanking you in anticipation for guiding me.

2007 Vandalism[edit]

I logged in today and it said I have a new message:

"User talk:72.80.128.219

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Mexican–American War, you will be blocked from editing. —DerHexer (Talk) 22:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC)"

The thing is, I never really edit anything and in 2007, I don't think I even knew what the Mexican-American War was. I don't know if maybe my IP is what it was for someone else at one point or something, but I just wanted to make sure that there was no confusion. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.128.219 (talk) 14:06, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear DerHexer,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:10, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage

Dead link in article 'Betsy Ross'[edit]

Hi. The article 'Betsy Ross' has a dead link that could not be repaired automatically. Can you help fix it?

Dead: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/local/corrections/13230319.htm

  • You added this in January 2008.
  • The bot tested this link on 27 March, 29 March, 31 March and yesterday, but it never worked.
  • The bot checked The Wayback Machine and WebCite but couldn't find a suitable replacement.

This link is marked with {{Dead link}} in the article. Please take a look at that article and fix what you can. Thank you!

Hello, could you take a look at this discussion at the requests for importation page? You could probably do the necessary imports far faster than I can. Thanks! Graham87 15:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Da sie es werden, das habe ich versprochen und dazu stehe ich, wird es auch keine Urheberrechtsverletzung sein. Grüße, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:03, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maculosae tegmine lyncis und ich haben uns inzwischen auf eine andere Lösung verständigt, die anscheinend die üblichere für en:wp ist. Ein Nachimport ist daher überflüssig geworden. ;) --77.183.30.134 (talk) 19:14, 15 May 2012 (UTC) (Reiner Stoppok)[reply]

Big delete[edit]

Hi DerHexer. I hope you don't mind me stopping by here; I didn't want to keep lighting up Beeblebrox's orange bar. As a steward, what are your thoughts on the technical challenges (if any) of bringing this permission locally? 28bytes (talk) 20:23, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(tps) Sorry to stop here too. I was following the discussion and I wish to comment against this. Bigdelete is simply a sensitive permissions developers wanted nobody except us and them to have because it's simply dangerous. We risk to break the entire site for performing a bad bigdelete, as it has happened in the past; included the inhability to normally restore what has been deleted sometimes (as it happened when it was deleted in error a page at meta with +40k revisions which had to be manually restored via bot). For that, we've been clearly told and instructed when to perform bigdelete actions and with which requirements (asking the operations team for approval, etc.). It's not pushing a button and done, it's sadly much more complicated. Regards (and sorry for my bad English). MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:04, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've already mentioned some prerequisites at his talk page: These users should be highly trusted and technically skilled. They also should be able to use IRC to contact developers easily, and should know a bit about MediaWiki's database structure and bugs concerning RevisionDeletion and regular deletion. I personally think enwiki's oversights and/or crats are capable of dealing with this but I can also understand our developers to reduce the number of users who are able to use this damageable tool. Btw., you can easily restore a page of tens of thousands of revisions with one API command, afaik without harming our servers. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:19, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr. Hexer[edit]

It's obvious that Mr. Marcus Cyron is not willing to communicate with me. That's ok. Nevertheless, I believe that he can treat people with respect. In RL a behaviour like this would be inappropiate, to censor (to delete) contributions of others with insults. He may delete stating that he's not willing to get in contact but not with a troll comment. I informed him about this. I think it's a shame if important collaborators of a wikipedia chapter behave like this. As you both represent the German chapter of wikipedia, you officially, Mr. Marcus Cyron as a former administrator, as a writer in residence and much more, it's normal that people try to get in contact with you or with him, especially if they are involved in bizarre communication processes that convert de.wiki into a arbitrary "regime". As my Real-Life-Identity behind Filliou has been revealed by third parties accessing absolutely private database information within the de.wiki, I'm using my account Filliou only within the en.wiki as a sign of protest against the unpleasant manners, the bad practices, the mobbing and hounding that takes place within the de.wiki. Hard to understand?--Filliou (talk) 09:59, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked IP 173.255.235.152 (Open Proxy)[edit]

Hi, I manage the server at 173.255.235.152. We had an open proxy issue last year but it's been fixed since last November. The IP is still listed as being blocked with this error message: "Editing from your IP address (173.255.235.152) has been blocked (disabled) on all Wikimedia wikis until 13:01, 9 August 2013 by DerHexer (meta.wikimedia.org) for the following reason...". Could this IP please be removed from the block list? --Mmarehman (talk) 18:30, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The IP is neither blocked on enwiki nor globally. Thus, I cannot remove such blocks (but I tried and failed). Are you sure about the number 173.255.235.152? Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 00:32, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
After some help from the stewards on IRC, I noticed that the whole /18 subnet is blocked, so the entry in question is probably 173.255.192.0/18. This is a range of VPS servers hosted on Linode, I only operate one of those IPs so can only speak for it. Is that enough to have the entire range unblocked? --Mmarehman (talk) 06:59, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately not. But you can request a (global) IP block exemption if necessary. Sorry for the late response. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:18, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism claim[edit]

Hello, I was editing Jim McCalliog's page and it was claimed by yourself as vandalism. These claims were apparently because the information was not useful or inappropriate. I disagree, the information was 100% factual and completely up to date which does make it useful. I am sitting directly opposite Jim McCalliog and he agrees, if you have any doubts about this information please call the number which was added to the page. I guess I got an automated message like everyone else. I was just trying to make the Kebab page (seciton: In Iran) more consistent. All the spellings are different and driving me crazy. Please implement my corrections. Thanks

I thought your edit was not consistent. Maybe you should implement it again by yourself. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:50, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit[edit]

Thanks for taking on the governor general article, I didn't really have time to WP:PROVEIT, the warning template hadn't being acted on for FIVE YEARS! A referenced article is better than a stripped back article and I look forward to your improvements 92.41.135.32 (talk) 21:44, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Steve McFadden/Jason Biggs[edit]

Under your Eastenders Wikipedia page you have written that Phil Mitchell's character is portrayed by "Jason Biggs", however this is incorrect as he is played by British actor Steve McFadden. I tried correcting this however you reverted the correction.

Please discuss this on the talk page. The article would need to be moved if your reasoning got community consensus. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:06, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gopherus[edit]

"Hello, I'm DerHexer. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Gopherus with this edit without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:19, 11 April 2013 (UTC."

To whom it may concern, I actually made the change twice. The first time I edited the content and explained why with a Wikipedia edit summary. For several weeks no one responded, no one edited the Wikipedia web page, no one responded to me, nobody did anything...So I then made a second change to the content in Gopherus.

For the second change to Wikipedia I wrote the following, which is still included in the diet section under "Gopherus, to let someone know that reference number five should not be included: "Reference number 5 was a link to a company website advertising for profit gopher tortoise trapping and relocation services in Florida. The for profit company is called "Gopher Tortoises Services, Inc.". This is not a suitable reference regarding the diet of gopher tortoises. Wikipedia is merely allowing its website to be used as advertising for a for profit company. Information on the diet of gopher tortoises can be obtained instead from numerous peer reviewed articles on the gopher tortoise."

The company "Gopher Tortoises Services, Inc." has several times now attempted to use there website as a reference regarding gopher tortoises. The company use their reference, and link to their company website, as free advertising on Wikipedia. The information Gopher Tortoise Services, Inc. is supplying regarding gopher tortoises is not their own, but is taken from other sources such as peer reveiwed journals. Wikipedia should be using suitable references and not company advertisements.

Arkan[edit]

I think It's wrong to say in descriptions that he was a criminal. I am aware that he was that too, but that is mentioned already in the text bellow. I understand that in a lot of eyes he wasn't a hero, but I sure we can figure out a different name. Thank you

Please use the talk page to discuss this. Thank you! Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:17, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Paul the Jew[edit]

Hi Dexter. I was only trying to make the use of names on Wiki consistent with its other pages. I got the name from this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Patriarchs_of_Antioch because it is confusing if they all have different names on different pages. It is much better if the names on all pages for the same person are in common don't you agree? Best wishes. 2.101.100.191 (talk) 18:34, 4 June 2014 (UTC) He is also mentioned as Paul the Jew here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severus_of_Antioch 2.101.100.191 (talk) 18:38, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) You may be right though it currently links to Paul II of Antioch which should be the name to choose, imho. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:39, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, but please allow consistency across the wiki articles with whatever name you o.s.h. choose, But be sure first that Paul II who served in Antioch **550 to 575** is not a different person from Paul the Jew who served **518 to 521**. Bests 2.101.100.191 (talk) 18:46, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, apologies if I made a mistake. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:51, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see a message on this user's talk page suggesting that you have unblocked his stated Company Account, although it appears that you have not done so. Please note that I have already refused unblock here, as the English Wikipedia, unlike the German, does NOT allow accounts of this type. Please discuss this with me, or with any other experienced en-Wikipedia admins, before taking action here. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:52, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to Wikipedia:Username_policy#Promotional_names “A user who both adopts a promotional username and also engages in inappropriately promotional behaviors in articles about the company, group, or product, can be blocked. In such cases, administrators should examine the user's edits to decide whether or not to allow them to create a new username.“ By saying this, promotional usernames can be chosen as long as they don't engage in inappropriately promotional behaviors. If not, administrator can block these accounts. Does this apply to this very user? If not, I don't see any reason not to unblock this account (which I obviously forgot). Please also double-check User:Swarovski Kristallwelten and revert my action if you think it's necessary and appropriate, I'll accept it. Btw., the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use also allow companies and the like creating their own Wikipedia accounts as long as they clarify their background, payment, etc. And for these accounts, even OTRS confirmation was provided. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:15, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The only edits made by this user are about the activities of the company. This is promotional and hence blockable. He has been offered the option of applying for unblock with associated change of username. I would be happy to see him unblocked with a changed name, assuming that his edits ceased to be promotional. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 18:47, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Swatovski Kristallwelten has made only three edits, all in December of last year. The promotional nature of these edits is less obvious, and in any case blocking some six months after the last edit would seem to be unreasonable.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 18:53, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Edits in the company's article by the company itself are not necessarily promotional, e.g. it could provide updated (and sourced) facts about the number of their employees, gains and revenue, etc. Anyway, I will let them know about stricter rules on enwiki which call for a neutral username. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:57, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have blocked that account again. Note that a personal name mentioning the employer such as "Fred at Swarovski" would be allowed. They should of course still observe the WP:COI policy. – Fayenatic London 11:22, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I hesitated to do this as it might have appeared to be either confrontational or wheel-warring. But having said that, please DerHexer note that company accounts are NOT allowed in the English Wikipedia. Not under any circumstance. As Fayenatic london says, a username xxx at yyy is usually acceptable.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 13:35, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The policy quoted above disagrees with this opinion but nevermind. I'll keep it in mind. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:46, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

just a question[edit]

Hi derHexer, why did you change this username of Meleager on wikibooks NL? https://nl.wikibooks.org/wiki/Speciaal:Logboeken/renameuser. I saw the german user meleager did not do any edits from 2012. So why is this necessary? Ellywa (talk) 10:01, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In the upcoming weeks all accounts will be unified somehow by the Wikimedia Foundation. As nlwikibook's Meleager had no edits, the account was usurped due to metawiki's usurpation policy in order to prepare the unification of the global Meleager account (regardless of its activity). Thanks, I will put your remark on the NL wikibooks and Wikipedia talk page of this user. Ellywa (talk) 13:12, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt that a user who registered their account more than five years ago and never edited a page since then will note but thanks anyway! Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:15, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
