Thanks for uploading Image:Devipuram.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Sri meru.jpg. The copy called Image:Sri meru.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. Hello Devi!

[edit]

Let me tell you that you've written an amazing article with Devipuram‎. Keep it up. Regards, --ShahidTalk2me 10:45, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great work

[edit]

You have greatly improved the Shaktism article. My only request will be , write an edit summary (i.e. What changes have you done in short) so that other editors can understand what changes you have done, without having to go through Every change. Thanks.

Continue your good work.--Redtigerxyz 06:51, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Secondary sources

[edit]

Please quote secondary sources rather than Rigveda itself. This may be considered WP:OR. See discussion in Shaktism.--Redtigerxyz 12:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please add page numbers for further references and please don't use Ibid for references as someone may add or reduce references.--Redtigerxyz 13:07, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to be surprised. I like reading good articles. I think you have very much to add to Wikipedia. You have amazing writing skills and your English is brilliant. I think you can contribute to Bollywood pages as well, as you did in the beginning. It would be very nice if we tried to collaborate together from time to time.

I suggest you to create a user page, and write something about yourself. It would be quite interesting, because your red-link username is somehow surprising, considering your really great work. Just keep at it. Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 23:32, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Image:Bhuvaneshwari1.jpg and Image:Lalita sm.JPG : Assuming that the user Devi bhakta at commmons is you (else just ignore); Add source info about the images. Really speaking the images do not look 60 or 70 years old. (Probably enhanced by computer????) The religious print art of Raja Ravi Varma press and other prints look so different. I was looking to add the fairuse review tag. Before adding; just told it would be better to ask you about source info. I will add the tag and remove the images from the Shaktism article; after 5 days if the appropriate source info is not added.--Redtigerxyz 13:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Same implies to the Lajja Gauri image and Tridevi image.--Redtigerxyz 14:05, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes I am the same Devi bhakta. I may need your help on this. The images are from a pile of old religious posters I purchased some years ago from an Indian antiquities dealer. They appear to be of all different ages. Some must be easily over 100 years old, some comparatively recent by unmarked and unidentified, except for sometimes an artist's signature in the painting itself in Roman or Devanagari script. Sometimes a three-digit telephone number in Bombay, which gives some idea. :-) None are dated. Most of these prints are too large to lay flat on my scanner, so they are photographed, then scanned, then Photoshopped to try to minimize effect of fading, yellowing etc. Some are larger pictures of a main devi, say Durga, surrounded by avatars such as the Mahavidyas, nine Durgas, etc.
The Lajja Gauri is scanned from a book, which in turn attributes to the Archaeological Survey of India, all of which material is governmental and public domain as far as I am aware. Would you agree on this?
So ... how best to handle? As for a Fair Use inquiry, you clearly know better than I (my legal training is in the U.S., not India), but I would assume any Fair Use question is based on the rights on an identifiable copyright holder, which would not exist in the case of the prints. As you indicate (in the case of a recent photo of an ancient sculpture), what matters is less the topic of the image than the image itself. But in the U.S., at least, obtaining copyrights of expropriated subject matter (say, a screen print of the "Mona Lisa" [public domain] in multiple repeated images of different primary colors) is complex. Although I am not privy to the Indian case law, I would imagine that these prints are religious "ephemera" -- created expressly for calendars and prints, with rights neither reserved or expected (for reasons both commercial and spiritual), and then reused and borrowed from ad infinitum by other print companies for other purposes. They are produced in mass quantity, usually without copyright information -- because the printer themselves most likely aren't aware of the source or age.
Just my thoughts. I'd welcome any advices. Thanks for your note (Devi bhakta 15:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
one other point -- in case my tone or words suggest that I take this less than seriously, please be assured that i am quite serious. I have on my bookshelves any number of lovely art books full of perfect illustrations for this article -- but these books are recent, or the works they reproduced are recent and clearly identified as to artist and copyright. (Krishna Dharma's Mandala Press collections being prime examples) ... and so I don't use them. But grainy old B/W government survey photos and unmarked, undated prints from decades to a century old -- I think in such cases, "fair" use (especially for non-profit, non-commercial, educational use) is more or less a given unless a specific copyright owner steps forward, documents ownership and objects to the use. And even then, considering the nature of these paintings -- religious iconography clearly intended for devotional (rather than purely artistic or commercial) purposes, and for the most part devoid of identifying information and certainly copyright notices -- establishing such a proprietary interest would be challenging at best. I am all for protection of proprietary content rights, but to remove these illustrations under any legal argument I can think of seems patently absurd, and a victory over common sense. Keep in my WP's rule #1 of "be bold" -- whatever doubt if any may exist as to the copyright status of these illustrations requires very little "boldness" indeed to acknowledge and overcome. What do you think? (Devi bhakta 15:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
The Lajja Gauri from the book can be copyrighted to the book owner or ASI. If it was a older painting then the image could be realeased as PD-art but the photo of the sculpture may not be fair use. Pictures for devotional purposes Like of Rama (one that used to be in the hmythobox), Mahalakshmi of Kolhapur , a picture of Khandoba scanned ; used in wiki articles were deleted in this year.--Redtigerxyz 14:13, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Photo of the Lajja Gauri sculpture, situate in Badami Museum, a facility of the Indian Archaeological Survey (Government of India), is fair use under Indian Copyright Act, 1957, as amended. "52. (1) The following acts shall not constitute an infringement of copyright, namely (t) the publishing of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of a sculpture, or other artistic work […] permanently situate in a public place or any premises to which the public has access." (Devi bhakta 17:57, 8 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Also The Tridevi image is attributed to Mr. V.V. Sapar; maybe the permission of the author may be required.--Redtigerxyz 14:15, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still researching this. According to a consultation earlier today with Advocate N. Sankara Menon in Cochin, the use of copyrighted material is very liberally permitted by Indian copyright law with regards to not-for-profit and particularly educational not-for-profit publication in print or broadcast media, also under chapter 52, which is the fair use section of the copyright act. With regard to devotional and calandar prints and such, Mr. Menon added that "once these have been published anonymously 50 times (which would include both print and Internet uses), as such all copyright is lost." His feeling being that this is presumably the case in any devotional work older than a few years. In any event, again, he is continuing his research and will thereafter prepare a formal legal opinion for publication with these images. Please let me know if you have additional concerns not covered by this statutory law. (Devi bhakta 18:16, 8 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Do you have have any info that can be useful to create sections. "Matrikas in Tantra" and "Worship" in their WP article.--Redtigerxyz 14:07, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was thinking that Matrikas should merit their own section. I know I have useful information, will just have to dig a little. I may also have more detailed info that you could use for your work on the "Matrikas" main article if you are interested. (Devi bhakta 15:12, 6 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Your contribution to the Matrikas atricle would be welcomed. Thank you.--Redtigerxyz 12:38, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great image but....

[edit]

Image:Bhuvaneswari1.jpg Image:4-bhuvanesvari2.jpg

If you compare the images ; you notice the yantras are similar but different in the details. Are you sure about the yantra ????? Also the bright colours of the yantra focus attention more on the yantra than the image of goddess. Could please make neccessary changes and reload the image. Thanks.--Redtigerxyz 12:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Double-checked with a couple of Srividya upasaks in Andhra and Kerala. Yantra and colours are correct. One of them said (humourously i think): "Colours in yantra are always bright; I would change nothing. Remember, the eyes are for focusing where they must – this is not an ad to focus on specific parts!"

However, I agree that the colour scheme was a little overwhelming, so I softened the yellows and also chose a more subdued background colour, and finally added a darker border to unify and balance focus on both devi image and yantra. Better? - DB (Devi bhakta 14:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Could I also get your advice on how to delete the grainy Bhuvaneswari and the first draft of this one? I'd just as soon not have those items "out there" now that we've superceded them with better imagery. (Devi bhakta 14:57, 11 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
New is much much better. Go to Commons Image:Bhuvaneswari1.jpg. Click on upload new version of the file. Upload new version. presss upload. A warning will say a file of this name exists. Press Continue or Upload.--Redtigerxyz 10:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

For citing for eg Brook write <ref>Brook(year) p.1111</ref> Write book' name in References section. Do not write name of the book again and again. Read WP:CITE for more. --Redtigerxyz 11:16, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Red Tiger: I do understand your points about references and I noticed and do appreciate the change of citation form that you began. As I noted re: page numbers: I will get to it in good time (or you are free of course to continue). For now my focus is on completing the text itself. I will work out the technicalities of citation once the main job is completed. Thanks again for the advice. (Devi bhakta 21:09, 14 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Tripura Sundari

[edit]

I just wanted to draw your attention to Tripura Sundari temple. The state of Tripura is named after her. http://southtripura.gov.in/Data/matabaridetails.htm. Your article is very good. Unfortunately most of the Sri Vidya Upasakas at least in Tamil Nadu do not consider themselves Sakthas.--Sankarrukku 15:08, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For your great work on Shaktism - keep up the good work! Sfacets 05:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Devi

[edit]

Thank you so much for your words as well as for your nice quote. It is indeed very encouraging. :-)

I'll have a read through the article talk page, and see what I can do. Again, thank you! Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 15:37, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article deserves a better rating. Would you mind if I nominate it for WP:GA status? You can do it yourself too.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Shaktism

[edit]

The article Shaktism you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Shaktism for things needed to be addressed. SriMesh | talk 02:02, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This note was left on my talk page by the GA reviewer of the Shaktism article. I have answered some of the concerns expressed when was clueless about mantras issue and the lead.

--Redtigerxyz (talk) 06:17, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your good work on these issues; I had only one disagreement, which has been noted. I've got a busy schedule this upcoming week, but will attempt to address the lead and some other concerns within the next three or four days. Thanks again. (Devi bhakta (talk) 02:24, 17 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I will leave a draft of the lead too later today. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats, Shaktism is GA. Abt Sanskrit, write it down in English on my or article talk page and I write paste the Devanagari needed in the article. I am also nominating History of Shaktism for GA.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:40, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Proper name for Shaktism is not Shakta (that is either an adjective, or a noun describing practitioner, not the practice itself); but ShaaktaM, Sanskrit "doctrine of power," derived from Shakti, Sanskrit power ... (Devi bhakta (talk) 06:16, 19 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Great work, Devi bhakta. Now History of Shaktism is GA. I think its time to test if Shaktism is FA quality thus nominating it for the process.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image says that it is "unsigned religious art print" but there appears to be a sign at the right bottom corners, below the lamp stand and belows the agarbattis stand. Please check.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 06:23, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a look at the oppose at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Shaktism. I was unable to satisfactorily reply to the reviewer, who opposed the FA on the issue of "Misperceptions" having WP:POVs. Please do so. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 15:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As per response received til now, I am not so optimistic about the article's prospects at the FAC. The piling opposes mainly focus on the issue of quotes now. I am trying to merge the quotes into prose. Do you think that the article should be withdrawn as suggested? --Redtigerxyz (talk) 07:00, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is too soon to withdraw. I'd like to see what others have to say. The quote issue may be legitimate but it is not a "quick fix." A couple of the critiques, strong though they are, lack substance. One of them didn't notice that there was a History & Philosophy subsection, the other merely mentions the quotes issue and the rest is just gratuitous insult. Personally I would like to see more input. To withdraw the nomination based on a few non-constructive, under-baked critiques seems silly. Once I have a good pool of critiques to work from, I will have a better idea of how to re-frame the article -- or simply an educated basis for withdrawing it. What do u say? (Devi bhakta (talk) 08:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Refrain from any personal direct or indirect attacks that will land you in trouble (getting banned). That is one thing members of Wikiproject Hinduism like me, would not like. I think let the article be failed if the director feels so, til then we will give a fight. I think our objectives should be to convert the quotes to prose in our own words. Not all quotes, but most of them. See WP:QUOTE for WP policy about quotes.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 09:11, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your advice and kind words. I agree, I am more than willing to let the article be failed; it is not essential that it receive FA status. It has already (thanks to your efforts in that direction) risen higher in the Wiki-hierarchy than I ever imagined possible, and the article is a good gathering of information that was previously unavailable on the Web in any kind of comprehensive, systematic form. If nothing else, it is a strong foundation for others to build and improve upon. Or maybe it is a strong foundation for us to build upon; who knows? We shall see. And whatever will be, will be. ;-) Thanks again. - DB (Devi bhakta (talk) 16:03, 28 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I am eliminating some of quotes. While doing so, i may sometimes, by error, delete imp points. Please keep a look on the article. Also, i think a copyeditor can be approached to get rid of the quotes. Should i do so or do you want to do it yourself??--Redtigerxyz (talk) 12:43, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your note. If you cannot edit without removing quotations, please refrain. I have more than two decades of experience copy-editing; we do not need to approach any third party to "get rid of quotes". As noted earlier, I will do the job. However, like you, I am "busy in real life" and such extensive edits (which I do not entirely agree are needed in the first place) will not happen instantaneously. Repairing erroneous deletions will only extend and complicate the job. Thank you for your understanding. (Devi bhakta (talk) 23:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Nobody owns an article, so anybody can edit. "Removing quotations" is neccessary as noted in Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Shaktism, by fellow editors and as per WP:QUOTE. I will eliminating quotes ie. not deleting them but writing the same thing (or what i understand of it) in my own words.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please assume good faith. I am requesting a courtesy, not claiming ownership. I am simply interested in making the article as accurate and fluid as possible, within style guidelines, and very honestly felt that your initial edits were such that they would complicate rather than simplify that job. The handful of FA critics who have weighed in do not "own" the article either (as noted, they often do not even reflect a close reading), and frankly I would rather remove the article from FA consideration than have it diminished in an attempt to appease them. On the other hand, if you wish to refrain from precipitous edits, I feel certain that I can successfully incorporate the suggested changes. It is up to you. (Devi bhakta (talk) 15:35, 5 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]
I know that Devi Bhakta wants to make articles of the Devi the best of WP, but at the same time, they should be compatible with WP standards. It's not about appeasing the FA reviwers. They are right in objecting as per WP:QUOTE policy. It's making the article better following WP policy. Most probably, the article will fail FA, but the review is a peer review, making us understand what others think of the work, we do.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 15:55, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Nice to see to back after some many months. I have developed some topics related to Shaktism. Would like your input on the articles: Ashta Lakshmi, Chamunda, Manasa and Parvati (needs a cleanup). --Redtigerxyz (talk) 06:15, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Redtiger, thanks for the welcome back. I will be happy to look at these articles once I've finished cleaning up Shaktism and History of Shaktism. I suspect after a year of the articles sitting there collecting miscellaneous edits, and now my ability to return and read them with fresher and more objective eyes, they might be significantly better than they were before. Or not -- perhaps we shall see. (Devi bhakta (talk) 18:02, 16 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]
While you are cleaning up the articles, read Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Shaktism/archive1 once again and try to address the issues. Contact me if more help is needed, though i am a little busy with vithoba.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:55, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Manidweepam.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Manidweepam.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
