Longest flights and "unticketable"[edit]

Hello DigitalExpat! Thanks for your many improvements to the Longest flights article. I am an aviation industry fan (having flown transport-category aircraft) but I'm sure I don't know the industry as you do. Still, I did some searches and couldn't find "unticketable" in use. Are you sure that it's an industry term? It's certainly not an English-language word. Even if it were an industry term (and even if it were an obscure English word), since it's not a word in use in English more generally, it could be jarring to many readers (who aren't industry insiders) as a non-standard word. It was jarring to me, and I am a casual observer of commercial aviation. Our audience contains many people who do not know all the jargon of the industry. Having said all that, we would need to find a way to express what you communicated in your change explanation: that the flights are being flown, but not regularly scheduled or sold. I'm not sure I understand as well as you do exactly what the status of some of the flights is. Cheers! Holy (talk) 18:05, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question on nonstop SIN-LAX route using ULR[edit]

Hello DigitalExpat. So you reverted my edit here on the longest flights article, is there a reason why you think that Singapore Airlines operating the nonstop Singapore-Los Angeles (SIN-LAX) route is not using the Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft at this time? Since the nonstop SIN-LAX route is longer than the nonstop Singapore-San Francisco (SIN-SFO) route via crossing the Pacific Ocean within the great circle route, they should be using the ULR aircraft on the SIN-LAX route as well instead of the regular, non-ULR A350-900. The airline utilized the ULR aircraft on that route since November 2018 before the pandemic. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 17:05, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Allen2 Hi Allen! Always great to meet a fellow wiki contributor! Yes, SQ did use to use an ULR on the SIN-LAX route but has since stopped. (note that SQ operates 4 "different" configurations of A350s but, only ULR gets a different ICAO identifier). ( I'm on mobile at the moment and can't find the press coverage of when they stopped the 1x daily ULR route to LAX) but there are some very good clues to show that LAX has no ULR service on SQ36 or SQ38: (1) look at the equipment being used on the flights - none of them are the registration numbers of the 7 ULRs that exist in the world ( see list here - https://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Singapore%20Airlines-active-a350.htm ) and also another clue is you can search for seats available on the 2 daily flights and you get Y class availability - ULRs have no Y class :) (only PEY). Yes you're right about the distance being greater than SFO, but then again SQ was flying non-ULRs all the way to the East Coast previously, so load factor, cargo capacity, and product pricing I'm guessing probably overrule any distance limitations :) cheers and all the best!
