Sooj Picture

Hi, Dillard!

>Your image was deleted because you didnt explain how you got it.

I took it myself at Faerie Worlds last year, and have written that every time I've uploaded the picture. I don't really understand how to make the tag work properly, or where to put the information. Every time I fill it out with what seems like the correct format, it either deletes half of it, doesn't process the upload at all, or uplaods it so that *I* can see the info but apparently still doesn't meet the right criteria.

Could you please help me post this properly? The example template is hard for a non-computer geek like me to understand. :)

>You must place a tag at the bottom of the image after you upload it.

See above. I've done this at least three times.

>If I hadnt have been at Heartland Pagan Festival when you uploaded it, i would have fixed it for you.

Cool. Have a good time?

>See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. If you want to upload it again just attach the corresponding tag by editing it after its uploaded. If you need help, just ask me on my talk page, i would be more than happy to help. :)

Again, been there, done this, haven't had it work properly.

Thanks and blessings,

Yeah those templates can be weird sometimes, If you want, upload it and i will fix the tag for you. Heres an example of what it should look like when you edit the image to put the tag: Editing Meatcake.jpg. That particular image is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 License. I would imagine you would want cc-by-sa-3.0 (A ShareAlike condition ensures that the terms you chose for your original creation are preserved, but also may limit how much the derivative work can be shared ), if not you would want cc-by-3.0. Theres a neat little slide show that talks about CC licenses here. I hope this helps, if not just contact me and i will do it for you! :D ✬Dillard421✬ (talkcontribs) 21:28, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shared IP

I just got a message from you saying I vandalised wikipedia, something to do with an FAI Ireland thing, here's the thing I have never seen that page before, so please dont say I vandalised something I have never been on, so I want an apology please.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.43.212.241 (talk) 20:42, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You appear to be using a shared ip address. This means that someone can come to the wikipedia, edit something, and then leave and the warning be posted on your page. You log on and think it was you; however, it was not since you share an ip address with multiple users. The only way to avoid this is to create an account. Account creation is free and you dont even have to share your email. There are no cons to creating an account, only pluses. I would encourage you to create one. A warning has been posted on your talk page that you are on a shared ip. Thanks! ✬Dillard421✬ (talkcontribs) 05:25, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

huggle

I think huggle deletes content from attack pages due to the severity of WP:BLP violations. Its my first night using it, but I think this is the case. (Just converted over from VP)--Finalnight (talk) 05:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It didnt do it in the past. It shouldnt delete the content i dont think, its a nomination for speedy deletion. If there's no content and only a tag, then how can an admin know why it should be deleted? Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 05:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BLP is a different ball-game though. Its usually a shoot-first, ask questions later. I don't know if you have noticed all the new "Special enforcement powers" regarding BLP, etc lately. They are taking blp violations very seriously. But, I suppose it could be a bug. Editors are supposed to remove offending content immediately anyway, so I have no problem with it.--Finalnight (talk) 05:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to the template documentation of Template:Db-g10, it says to add it to the top of the page, not replace it. I think it is a bug. I will have to read over BLP incidents. I agree with removing offending content but when its the whole article and its a Speedy template, would it not be different? ::shrugs:: Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 05:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I read the huggle changelog, this "feature" was added in 0.7.6--Finalnight (talk) 06:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Huh! Who would have thought! I suppose it makes sense. I have been using huggle since version 6.3.0. I guess i just never noticed it. Thanks for pointing that out! Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 06:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Happy editing!--Finalnight (talk) 06:05, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I'm not very good at guessing categories. But it would have taken you virtually the same length of time to add a category and improve the article, as to add a category, as you seem to know some of them. o why not do so to articles yourself instead, as it would take you the length of time to write about one word?:) Sticky Parkin 15:10, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your concern, on this article, The Lady of the Shroud, yes it would have been very easy to categorize it; however, on an article such as Hemi-octahedron, it is not. I dont know anything about a Hemi-octahedron nor do i claim to. I could end up putting it in the wrong category, but instead i can place an uncategorized tag on it and let someone else do it, someone who knows what the heck it is. That's why the template was designed. Thanks though for your concern and happy editing! Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 05:53, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't delete my article!

Why can there be an article about McMaster Carr, and the OnlineMetals parent company, but not about OnlineMetals? I wrote that article in the exact same style as the two articles below...but someone wrongfully asked that my article be deleted. ALL THREE articles have a place on wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMaster-Carr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyssen_Krupp

!!! songs

Two questions: (a) Why are you deleting Category:!!! songs when there's a song in that category, and (2) why did you use the "thanks for experimenting" template when you told me about it?I've edited many thousands of categories.--Mike Selinker (talk) 15:55, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Im sure being an administrator, you have heard about twinkle. It automatically adds the warning/template to a talk page when you add a speedy to it. You know one thing that i commonly see on the wikipedia, are people who are admins, but do not act like one. Just because you have the ability to delete pages, does not mean that you can talk down to other users. I take offense to the way that you have handled this with your post above. Everyone makes mistakes Just because you are an admin, doesn't mean you can find a mistake and say OMG YOU MADE A MISTAKE WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE WE MUST SCOLD YOU. What can i say im human, it happens. That's why not every user is an admin, there's a process for a reason. The admin reviews the speedy and decides that hey, this doesn't need to be deleted, lets remove the template. Bam, no longer tagged. Problem solved, no need to be rude. Thanks I might ask you to assume good faith. Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 21:42, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're reading way too much into my comment, Dillard. I certainly didn't intend to talk down to you. You may have trouble with other admins, but you don't have any with me.--Mike Selinker (talk) 22:30, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thank you very much for the barnstar. Jean Lafitte and his brother Pierre have become my newest research project, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I appreciate the recognition! Karanacs (talk) 21:29, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome! You deserve the recognition for such a great job you are doing! :) Dillard421 (talkcontribs) 21:30, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
