Flower Tucci (name pronunciation)[edit]

In your reversion comment, you stated that the addition "pronounced 'tushy'" does not help "at all". I beg to differ. Try asking people who have not heard of her before to pronounce her name as written and then show them the English slang 'tushy' as a guide and see if they won't get it. This is the English version of this article, not the German one. Most people will know how 'tushy' is pronounced and if they don't, at least they'll know that their assumption is most likely not correct as with other words with a pronunciation guide.

But that really isn't the issue for me. What you could have done is given an IPA pronunciation guide or addressed it somehow differently from the way I did, in a manner that you thought *helped*.

Even Flower says that most people don't get it right and she often has to emphasize the pronunciation in her interviews.

I'm not going to re-edit the entry. I'll leave that to you guardians but taking the effort to undo the edit when you (seem to) acknowledge that the pronunciation needed guidance, without then providing it, is a waste of effort. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.218.56.250 (talk) 05:43, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You say that I could have provided an IPA pronunciation and that is exactly what you could have done as well though you didn't. Why not? That would have been more precise and standardized. 'Tushy' is slang and can be pronounced at least two different ways. It can be pronounced so that it rhymes with 'bush', with a sort of 'oo' sound, or it can be pronounced like it is in the song "Tush" by ZZ Top, where it is more like 'uh'. Bottom line, there are regional differences in the way 'tush' is pronounced.
And this is besides the point but you brought it up... I don't see how I "acknowledge that the pronunciation needed guidance". I said that it doesn't help with the pronunciation and that is what I meant. It doesn't bring the reader any closer to knowing exactly how Tucci pronounces her name. They're still left with a vague idea because a standard, such as IPA, isn't being used. Dismas|(talk) 06:05, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't provide an IPA pronunciation for her name because I don't know what it is (I would have done so since it would have been the same effort). I usually see people using different pronunciation guides like 'TOO-she' or something and I'm usually cool with all of them even when they are informal and not "standard".
I know of IPA; it doesn't mean I use it everyday. I brought it up as what you could have done seeing as, to you, my solution would not do. To me, this solution was way better than leaving it as it is since, especially with her Italian roots, many people will definitely make a fair assumption that it's pronounced 'TOO-Chi'. As I mentioned, pronunciation guides in Wikipedia, as opposed to a dictionary where each word has one, have the secondary function of notifying a reader that there's a common mispronunciation of the word in question, one that they probably use as well.
If you look at the entry Máiréad Nesbitt, it has this: "Máiréad Nesbitt (pronounced "mah-raid")". Now, how is that pronounced, since a "standard" pronunciation guide also tells you where to put the stress/emphasis? I don't see it in there. Is it "MAH-raid" or "mah-RAID"? And is the "-aid" pronounced like the word "raid" or "said"? Still, it gives a user who may have been way off a clue that maybe it's not "MAY-reed" or "my-RAY-ad" or something or, it tells them that it's worth checking, if they care about such things. Someone better equipped at communicating the pronunciation or good at using Wikipedia (and putting a sound file) can improve on that.
And the notion that standards make things easier is not even true. Look at Méav Ní Mhaolchatha. Just because a standard guide has been used does not mean your average reader will no longer have a "vague idea" of how it should be pronounced. Most people don't know IPA or how to navigate the pronunciation and if I've overstated that, the following is not an overstatement: Most people will not bother.
I'm not arguing against IPA in that last paragraph. I'm refuting your view that people get more clarity out of it than a non-standard guide using phonetic spelling or familiar words to dispel wrong pronunciation assumptions. There's more than one approach to achieving many things. Pronunciation is one such thing that has many approaches (sound file, IPA, phonetic spelling, "rhymes with" etc)
I suppose there's no way for you to prove to me if your friends (assuming they don't know Flower) will pronounce her "Tucci" wrongly when reading it as written, and then correctly when you give them the "tushy" help. But first do that and then maybe it'll make sense to make assertions such as "It doesn't bring the reader any closer to knowing exactly how Tucci pronounces her name." The way I found out the pronunciation, was by following one of the links (two of them have her, in essence, spelling it out just as I gave it) and I was not even going there for that because I assumed that it was pronounced just like Stanley Tucci pronounces his even before I knew she had Italian roots, which is even more misguiding.
Oh yeah, lest I forget, I did not claim that you acknowledged my solution which is what your response seems to address ("I said that it doesn't help with the pronunciation and that is what I meant."); you did indeed say it was not helpful which is why I responded. But reading your comment gave me the impression that you understood the pronunciation problem; that her "Tucci" is not pronounced the same way as the name is usually pronounced. It's possible to acknowledge a problem but still dismiss the proposed solutions. So that's what I meant. If I misunderstood you, that is, I'm wrong and you don't acknowledge that the pronunciation needs guidance, then I'm to take the opinion that you think people will more likely than not make the correct assumption about how her name is pronounced? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.218.56.250 (talk) 09:28, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You still haven't addressed my point. What you posted is vague since there are regional variations as to how people pronounce "tushy". Dismas|(talk) 01:05, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, the only thing vague here is your argument that the post was vague because "there are regional variations" to how people pronounce 'tushy'. (1) You only have one instance to back it up, a song no less (because rockers are sticklers for pronunciation and enunciation - I should start pointing to rap/pop/rock songs whenever I need to win grammatical and pronunciation debates). There are several instances of the word being displayed with a common pronunciation - the same one (Dictionary.com, a Bing result set, a Yahoo result set - take your pick between the search engines; some are similar). (2) Even allowing for regional variations, obviously (or not, since I have to explain it) any word has regional variations, particularly because English is now a lingua franca of sorts and is used everywhere in the world. Shall we provide all those variations in a pronunciation reference whenever a new instance pops up somewhere? Dictionaries, as you may or may not know, give popular uses of words and the most common pronunciations of them; they don't define them and don't have to enumerate every conceivable meaning and pronunciation (unless it's the Urban Dictionary and then it's mandatory to provide and invent all possible meanings and pronunciations). The most common pronunciation of 'tushy' is...well, you can check the links. Does that get rid of the vagueness?
On a different note (addressing standards etc.), I don't think that the dictionary.com link is using a standard pronunciation guide as their primary one (though they link to IPA). Some people pronounce vowels that follow each other in a sequence, differently from English speakers. Their usage of the guide in this way must be good enough...
Secondly, your earlier assertion that 'tushy' "doesn't help...at all" still stands to be proven. I keep making valid, logical arguments and I've given you empirical guidance (*ask the people around you*), not to mention the evidence on at least the first 3 links as of this writing, so you can check for yourself but you won't do it, or you did but won't admit the results. That's unfortunate. *You* need to address this issue and explain your reluctance to see any help the word provides other than to yourself. I think this is the crux of the matter because the only reason I edited the article was that the different pronunciation was such an obvious omission in the entry, but it appears in all her interviews that are linked to on the page (it must have been helpful there), that I thought it may be useful to embed it right in the article. Plus, it's actually more useful than things like dimensions which fluctuate all the time. Does a 4 (or however many) year-old weight/bust/waist/hip number which is never accompanied by the date of measurement have any veracity at the present?
Also, many people who pronounce things differently, do so because of their accents/dialects so it wouldn't matter anyway if you have an iron-tight, standard guide. As the IPA guide instructs, with regard to IPA symbols, "you can simply ignore the difference between [certain symbols], just as you ignore the distinction between the written [vowels or consonants] when pronouncing them". So, even if we use IPA or some other guide, a person can still ignore it. In other words, whenever you use IPA, it will accomodate the most common pronunciations but it's otherwise left to the reader. The most common pronunciation, again, of "tushy" is given in the links I provided so most people will get it, some won't. That's shocking; not everyone will agree on or 'get' something?
Pronunciations, and the act of communicating them, are variables. Standards are not the only way to do it (1), and (2) the standards, like IPA, still use words as examples anyway(!). How do you disambiguate then?! You still need reference words within the language. Are we going to have meta-pronunciation guides that recurse infinitely?
You still have to show that this was vague for the general population reading the English version of the article. Anecdotal evidence - her always using the same method to describe to people how her name is pronounced, on just about every interview I can find in which it's an issue - coupled with the dictionary references in the links given, show that there is anything but vagueness about how to pronounce 'tushy'. 'Tucci', yes; 'tushy', no.
Finally, maybe just to further indicate the utility of the word as I gave it: The important deviation in pronunciation is in the second syllable - the "-chi" as Stanley would pronounce his last name, is "-shi" in hers. That's actually the only emphasis she gives, the one that matters, and the one most people would differentiate more when looking at the two written words (since they start with the same consonant sequence). In fact, in hindsight, using the word as I did is actually more lucid than an IPA reference that would more likely hide that she has her last name *because* of her "tushy". It gives more context to the kind of work she does and why she chose the pseudonym in the first place (it won't be obvious to everyone upon reading - and only reading - her entry, of course).
That you would gravitate only to the "oo"/"uh" sound, and *only* that, then claim that the guide was "vague" or not helpful "at all", is quite surprising now that I think about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.218.56.250 (talk) 07:42, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Pinette and Louie Anderson are frequently confused. Go to You Tube and do a search for "John Pinette Chinese Buffet". The first link is from a 2006 special he did, but Pinette has been did this bit on his first comedy album. The "You go now, you been here four hour" thing is his signature line, sorta like "Git R Done" for Larry the Cable Guy. I'm not aware of Louie Anderson ever doing the line, but Pinette and Anderson are easy to confuse. --Jayron32 13:43, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Playmate data question[edit]

If Playmates didn't fill out data sheets until 1959, where did those kinglypigs pages get the measurements and such information from for earlier years?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talkcontribs)

I've been in contact with the maintainer of that site before and had asked the same question. It seems that at one point Playboy kept the information on their site and then, for whatever reason, removed birth dates from their site files. When the maintainer couldn't get various info from Playboy, they did research and got it from books, magazines, and other sources which they themselves considered reliable. As far as I understand it, they work in or are affiliated with the library at a university (don't recall what their site says about them and don't want to publicize too much here), so research materials are easy to access. They also personally own a, if not full then very large, collection of the magazines themselves. Dismas|(talk) 05:42, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

editing mentor request[edit]

Hi Dismas - thanks for the welcome. I'm a newbie so apologies for these questions - ideally looking for a mentor re an issue: I have an article to add but it already exists with a different meaning/interpretation. I gather this means I need to create a new stub? I did place a notice of the new stub in the May 2011 listing. Would appreciate some guidance on next steps. Thanks Emazoff (talk) 10:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dismas - thanks for response - I'll check out the mentor offers. The topic is "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_Lifecycle_Management" (SLM) - currently covers software licensing. My article will provide a different interpretation based on extending "application lifecycle management" (ALM) concepts - the new article will also explain why SLM is necessary as a subject matter heading and the relation between ALM and SLM. Emazoff (talk) 13:49, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Dismas - looks like my proposed Software Lifecycle Management may be considered a neologism or protologism? Not too sure. Emazoff (talk) 14:00, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SLM/ALM[edit]

Sounds good to me Dismas - I'll put my suggestion for discussion on the computing talk page. It may well be that the existing article could be expanded with the new perspective. Emazoff (talk) 20:18, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Emme[edit]

Dear Dismas, I am having an incredibly hard time updating my profile on Wiki. Each time I do so, you revert back to old copy.

Being a public figure, I am concerned daughter's name is listed, my hometown is listed and professionally the clients use Wiki much more often than desired and since my information is not properly updated, I am being introduced improperly and old information is being printed in media (which makes my current sponsors furious)...so obviously if the work I am currently involved is not being reflected, affects my business.

Please understand, I had to contact Wikipedia with my current bio (which I have inserted below) and asked if they are not able to correct this asap, I will need to pull my site from Wiki's offerings both here and on Facebook.

I do not want to endanger my family nor affect my business opportunities and knew you needed to hear from me directly to clear this issue from occurring again. Please know I am available for any questions you may have,

Thank you very much, Emme founder, EmmeNation user name: EmmeStyle

EMME

Emme, the supermodel, television personality, author, lecturer, creative director for her clothing lines, and nationally recognized women’s advocate for positive body image and self esteem has a clear mission: to awaken the inner magnificence inherent in each of us. It’s no wonder People magazine selected her twice as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" and Ladies’ Home Journal chose her as one of the "Most Important Women in America" and one of the "Most Fascinating Women of the Year." And the accolades don’t stop there: she was honored as a Glamour magazine "Woman of the Year" and as one of Biography magazine’s “25 Most Influential Women.” Currently, Emme is the spokesperson for Kemin Health's FloraGLO(R) brand Lutein. June 2011, Emme joins the cast of Nora and Dalia Ephron’s off Broadway play LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE. Emme’s newest business venture, www.EmmeNation.com, the revolutionary interactive resource forum for women to ignite a body+mind+spirit transformation of their own. In 2010 Emme was in demand as a spokesperson for a leading plus size retailer and served as a body image and media expert on three prestigious panel discussions: the 10th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts Research Institute, discussing girls and media, body image and internet safety, the NEDA & STOP Obesity Alliance discussing how to effectively communicate about weight and health in media and mass culture at Pace University and at The Sundance Film Festival assembled by the Creative Coalition addressing America’s unhealthy relationship with food and the role the of the entertainment industry in creating a positive change. Emme brought her talent and sparkling personality to Fox as the host of the groundbreaking dating competition series, MORE TO LOVE, from Executive producer Mike Fleiss (The Bachelor and The Bachelorette). Emme burst onto the scene as the world’s first full-figured supermodel and, as host of E! Entertainment Television’s "Fashion Emergency", she quickly became a popular icon not only in the United States, but around the globe. Emme’s television and radio appearances are innumerable, including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s The Early Show, CNN’s American Morning, 20/20, The Rachel Ray Show, CNN Headline News’s Showbiz Tonight and The Joy Behar Show, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, NPR, and a frequent guest host of the Joan Hamburg Show on WOR Radio, not only as a fashion expert but advocating for women on important lifestyle issues including body image, surviving cancer, mothering, downsizing and adopting a greener lifestyle. Always a trendsetter, Emme became the first full figured model ever to land a spokesperson’s contract with a cosmetics company when she signed with Revlon. Her views have set a refreshingly new standard of beauty both here and abroad. World renowned doll creator and designer, Robert Tonner, created the EMME doll, making Emme the first full-figured model to have a high fashion collectable doll sculpted in her likeness. “…hottest product launched…at the American International Toy Fair…” NY Post Emme chronicled her extraordinary life and rise to success in her first book, True Beauty (Putnam/Perigee). Emme then shared her passionate perspective on life when she penned her second book entitled Life’s Little Emergencies (St. Martin’s Press). Morning Has Broken: A Couple’s Journey Through Depression, by Emme and Phillip Aronson (NAL), chronicles their struggle and triumph over her then husband Phillip’s depression. What Are You Hungry For? (Harper Collins), Emme’s newest release, is a children’s book that addresses the reality that children have many hungers, including emotional ones. Emme’s status as an influential columnist was evident when she wrote her Ask Emme column for three years at MODE magazine, and in 2008 she began to blog about self esteem issues in the Living Section at The Huffington Post and at iVillage with her Simply Green with Emme, discussing her commitment to the green movement from the perspective of a multi-tasking mom. Emme is a vocal advocate for people of all ages to be fit and to live a healthy lifestyle while simultaneously combating societal and peer pressure to be something other than what comes naturally. For 20-years, Emme has put women’s and children’s issues front and center. Politically, In 1994, Emme was the first model to speak to these issues before Congressional Sub-committee in Washington, DC and continues to lobby in DC on body image issues, continual funding of the arts in schools and the need for healthy media images for women and youth. Says Emme, "We live in a society that promotes a desire for thinness at any cost in the quest for the attainment of unrealistic beauty. I want women to know their self-esteem is not contingent upon their dress size and good health is attainable by more than just one body type," “without art, life would not have taste!” and lastly, “the time has come for all media to take responsibility in the creative reflection of women and girls.” Emme serves in more ways than one; she is the current past chair of the Ambassador’s Council of The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and is on the advisory boards of Ophelia’s Place (Syracuse New York’s eating disorder resource), Hearts of Gold (serving New York City’s underprivileged women and children) and in 2011, Emme was appointed to the Healthy Media Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls. A tireless advocate, Emme has received numerous accolades and awards for her impact in the business arena as well as her tireless efforts in the not for profit world. Emme’s popularity as a lecturer is well earned. She promotes and exemplifies a wellness lifestyle, positive body image and self-esteem and self-acceptance as a sought after keynote speaker. She lectures at national business workshops, governor conferences and seminars, prestigious universities including Yale, Harvard, and NYU as well as middle and high schools around the country. A cancer survivor, Emme is vocal about the need to advocate for oneself when dealing with issues of health. Born in New York City, Emme was raised in Saudi Arabia and returned to the US as a teenager where she attended the prestigious Kent School. Syracuse University awarded Emme a full athletic scholarship where she excelled both academically and as a member of the crew team. Emme was invited to the US Olympic Team trials, as well as several US National Team trials. She was later inducted into the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame and in 2008 was honored as a Letterwinner of Distinction for her significant contribution to women's athletics and to the sport of rowing. After graduation, she spent two years in Flagstaff, AZ where she was a reporter and morning anchor for the NBC affiliate KNAZ-TV. Emme and her daughter reside in Northern New Jersey.

Carmella Bing Edit[edit]

You removed my content due to No sources. I added her name and high school and changed her ethnicity. I know her, in fact we dated years ago. I think I am a better source than most. Here are a series of links to prove it.

Links to each:

Carmella Bing myspace post by http://www.lukeisback.com/?p=1629 She states "To my little sister Michelle for all the shit weve been through" and "To my BFF Brianna, You fucking rock!!!" at the bottom of the page is says Brianna Love (pornstar)

Sara Faas personal myspace profile: http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100001615056821

Her friend's list has 2 important people on it that prove it is Carmella Bing (not to mention the Salem Oregon connections). Autumn Conti aka Autumn Sanders aka Brianna Love (pornstar). http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100001844590576 (Wiki states she is from Fresno but she is originally from Missouri and look at her friend's list that clearly shows a bunch of Sanders from Missouri and Fresno (and she states Fresno). Not to mention it is clearly her in the picture. Here a guy from Missouri posts that he went to school with Brittany Love aka Autumn Sanders http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2399622&page=5

Michelle Overton (her sister) http://facebook.com/michellefoverton and now her twitter http://twitter.com/#!/Michellefawn where she follow 2 people (YES... one of them is Carmella Bing) and the killer Sarah Marie myspace with friend Michelle Overton that posts calling "Sarah Marie" her sister http://www.myspace.com/faaserellie (Notice faas in the username?) Her blog reads "don't message me unless we are real friends AND finally here is her mom who she looks just like http://facebook.com/beth.faas

Clearly enough info to prove that Carmella Bing is Sarah Marie Faas

South Salem High School http://www.classmates.com/directory/public/memberprofile/list.htm?regId=8675488895 class of 2000 was 11 years ago - making her 29 now.

Finally her ethnicty. Your have a source link for IAFD http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=CarmellaBing/gender=f/Carmella-Bing.htm

READ IT IF YOU'RE GOING TO QUOTE IT. It even says she is American/Italian/Hawaiian. Yet you remove my addition. That source sucks ass as it says she was born in Washington. Her dad lives in Seattle and her mom and sister in Vancouver.

So I do not know how to source all of these links but anybody can see, but taking 5 minutes, that my changes were valid.

Please help me to correct this — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.233.232 (talkcontribs)

I'll go at this point by point:
  1. Wikipedia:Original research - You've done quite bit of sleuthing. And as such, it counts as original research. Furthermore, Facebook, MySpace, etc. are not always considered...
  2. Reliable sources - If Bing were to state in an article that her Official Facebook or MySpace page was X, then we can use the info on that page. That's why we can use the MySpace page for the pregnancy info. I'd rather use something better but there it is. You've used a lot of guesses, calculated as they may be, your opinion isn't...
  3. Verifiable - Sources should be able to be looked up by anyone. So, if someone uses The New York Times as a reference, then anyone can go to any library and look it up. The same thing goes for AVN which is a news source for the pornography industry. If you're going to use several pieces of info to link things together, then your theories depend on each one of those sites being able to be verified.
  4. Wikipedia:BLP#Privacy of names - (Note: This is the most important point!) We're not here to "out" anyone. If Bing hasn't stated her name in an interview or article from a reliable source then we are not obligated to publish it. The women in Bing's profession have stage names for a reason and we are not here to break into their personal life. And finally...
  5. Wikipedia:WikiProject Pornography#Useful links - Quite a bit of work has gone in to finding and determining what sites are and are not reliable sources of information for pornographic articles. Lukeisback is not considered reliable. And IAFD isn't considered reliable for biographical info. It's like IMDB in that way (see WP:RS/IMDB).
If you have any further questions about any of this, let me know. If you'd like a second opinion about this, I can give you a few names of other editors who have been here just as long if not longer than I have. And they've worked with biographies of pornographic actresses as well. Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 02:18, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

shannon tweed's siblings[edit]

Hey,

My source for that edit was Family Jewels[season 6, episode 7 "Mr. Tweed goes to Canada"]. Shannon and her mom were talking about how life was for the family when they first moved back to Saskatoon. They showed several group photos of the kids with their mom and discussed how difficult it was for her to raise 7 kids alone.

Sorry that was my first edit and I clearly didn't know how to do it properly with the references
