Dispersion trading focuses on the volatility difference between an index and its individual stocks, typically by shorting index options and going long on options of the constituent stocks. This strategy seeks to exploit discrepancies in volatility. In contrast, correlation trading centers on the relationship between two assets, aiming to profit from changes in their correlation coefficient. It often involves a wider range of financial instruments and can be applied to various asset pairs, not just stocks and indices. Dispersion trading is a more specialized form of volatility trading, whereas correlation trading deals directly with the correlation variable in asset pricing.
