Seems u didn’t get the point,[edit]

Well u didnt quite get the point, there is nothing to do with pigs in my article,

i tested Alzheimer's patients, not pigs! lol, well thank u for the feedback!

good man[edit]

You're a good guy. I do the translations to keep my brain in French mode. I don't seem to be fluent enough to write on :fr without being shouted at. So I'll stay here for now--Wonderfool t(c) 23:25, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The the's, etc[edit]

You're welcome. Not sure I'm actually still planning much more on Sean Kelly: the article has been improved and expanded a lot since I put it on my 'to-do'. nice claim to fame, though! I'm not a garner, and certainly not much of a gardener -- I have a balcony with some half-dead rosemary. No, I'm a gamer, as in RPGs, board games, etc. Alai 14:18, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Your message[edit]

I'm glad their is support for this distinction between entertainers and other writers. I don't think the support exists site-wide. We have yet to see the worst of vanity insertion before the community takes action. lots of issues | leave me a message 05:45, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maulana Ibne Hasan[edit]

I did a google search on "Maulana Ibne Hasan", and I get 9 results, none in english. English is the only language I speak, so I have no idea what they say. I also can't find that article now, was it speedied? --Phroziac (talk) 17:08, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I changed my vote to keep over there. Thanks for the information. --Phroziac (talk) 20:07, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Random Number[edit]

As I said on the pump, it was fixed in 1.5. We're now running 1.6. This is the function I wrote to replace it:

function wfRandom() {
	# The maximum random value is "only" 2^31-1, so get two random
	# values to reduce the chance of dupes
	$max = mt_getrandmax();
	$rand = number_format( (mt_rand() * $max + mt_rand())
		/ $max / $max, 12, '.', '' );
	return $rand;
}

I'm pretty sure I re-randomized all the cur_random values at the time, although I could be wrong. Getting high quality random numbers is a lot easier than it used to be, now that we have lots of Mersenne Twister implementations. Are you sure you didn't just request 1000 random pages? -- Tim Starling 07:47, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Votes for deletion/David Jasper[edit]

I added a rebuttal to your Strong keep vote on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/David Jasper. No pressure to change your vote. Just a courtesy letting you know I responded to your comments. --GraemeL (talk) 13:59, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that. Somebody re-wrote the article to point to the David Jasper of Glasgow University. --GraemeL (talk) 14:40, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Was this you withdrawing the nomination? You might want to go back and clarify that. Flowerparty talk 23:40, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Marshall Poe[edit]

Yes, I thought it was interesting and added a paragraph about it (which is obviously completely out of proportion, considering how little the article currently says about his actual research; we can just hope somebody else adds more about that). Up+land 12:17, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for deletion[edit]

Hi, I noticed your entry on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Chateaus in the Highland of Castlemore, Brampton, Ontario and assumed you intended to apply it to the following articles:

I've added that comment to each article on your behalf. If I've made a mistake, please let me know, or update those AfD votes, or both. Thanks. Mindmatrix 13:53, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because of the complexity of the vote at the above AfD, I have attempted to break down the individual votes on the AfD talk page. If I have misunderstood your vote with respect to any of these, please correct it. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 12:54, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What are your intentions with Koranic annotation signs? If it's merely going to be a list of symbols it probably doesn't belong on wikipedia, however if you're going to make an article that'd be great. Also, I've moved it to User:Dlyons493/Koranic annotation signs, that way you can edit it as long as necessary without fear of it being deleted. When it's ready to withstand life in the main namespace you can move it there. --fvw* 19:40, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I just wanted to point out that an article on the subject already exists at Lia Fáil. Since that article already contains all the information you submitted at Stone of Fal, I've taken the liberty of redirecting from there to the previously existing entry. NVC communities[edit]

Thanks for your comment. You're right, the article title is longer than I would wish, but I think it needs to be, as the title is the name of the thing that the article is about. I don't expect users to type these full names in, they would usually follow a link or they may wish to type in the name in abbreviated form (e.g. just the community abbreviation, CG3 etc). Eventually I will create redirects or disambigs for all of these, but that's low down my priority list unfortunately; feel free to do that yourself though - the full list of communities can be found from the NVC category page SP-KP 17:17, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yogi Tea[edit]

I have done some research for the Yogi Tea article. However, I will be placing it at Yogi Tea. Yogi tea is a type tea similar to chai. There may be a connection between Yogi tea and Yogi Tea Company as their basic ingredients (cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, etc.) are the same. As such I will change my vote on the vfd to an outright delete or a redirect to Yogi Tea, whichever you believe is best. After I create the article I will support a move to "The Yogi Tea Company" if this matches naming conventions. --maclean25 21:18, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My dear Dlyons, thank you so much for your good wishes. WP:CP[edit]

Hi, you've reported copyright infringements to WP:CP in the last week, a new measure was recently passed to allow the speedy deltion of new pages that are cut and paste copyvios. Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:28, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

{{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

{{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

Ashwood University[edit]

I have rewritten the entry into a non-advertisement. (I won't say it's neutral.) As you voted to delete it you might wish to take a second look at the article as it is now. Pilatus 02:08, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dlyons493: I would like to thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community, especially since I did not conform to the standard edit-count criteria usually expected of administrator candidates. My forté on Wikipedia is, as you so kindly pointed out, in dispute resolution, and I promise to only use my administrative privileges to assist the community in achieving peace and tidying up around Wikipedia. I also promise to be calm, considerate and careful in working to make Wikipedia a better place. I look forward to working with you on Wikipedia in the future. Irish beer[edit]

Sorry you find fault with my Irish beer things. I did feel they were weak in parts too, but they started in my trying to put structure to the whole beer area, and some of the stubs were not great (and some of the references are not good). Bits that I wrote were by request and I used the sources I had at the time. But please complain if you think things I have written are wrong (or fix them or both). Alas I havent been to Ireland for about four years now... Justinc 23:39, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Keep in mind that we now have CSD A8, which is speedy for copyvios. All of these articles are copyvios and could have been tagged as such. Please don't hesitate to add a copyvio and speedy tag for articles that are in violation, it's much easier and faster than full AfD. Even if something is already on AfD, we can get rid of it that much faster if you go ahead and speedy it. Thanks for the vigilance, keep up the good work. RfA[edit]

Hi Dlyons493. I have followed this editor's activities for the last four months or so. I would request you to spend some time in going through his contributions. I assure you that you will not find any vandalism or false statements by him. However, at least I have found very obvious attempts on his part to somehow present only one side of the picture on various issues. Other users who try to balance such articles are harassed to a point such that they get sick of it and give up, or even leave wikipedia. I have hardly seen an attempt on his part to discuss with an open mind or try to reach a consensus. His contribution typically begins with a revert, without any clarification. Any discussion that follows soon degrades to a low level, with him accusing the editor of vandalism, sockpuppetry, etc, mostly without any evidence. I guess I can say many more things, but it would be better if you go through his contributions in the past 4-5 months (see especially talk pages) and make your own judgement. deeptrivia 01:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have built a script to speed up voting on AFDs and am looking for feedback. Please have a go! jnothman talk 11:44, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The install is the same, regardless of the browser. Just edit User:Dlyons493/monobook.js and paste in the script:
/**** afd helper ****/
document.write('<script type="text/javascript"' +
  'src="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Jnothman/afd_helper/' +
  'script.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

function Main()
{
 afd_helper();
 // You may include here other "extensions"
}
window.onload = Main;

/* This is to keep track of who is using this extension: [[User:Jnothman/afd_helper/script.js]] */
save that and then return to your profile page. The monobook.js file is automatically loaded with each wiki page, but it's cached so you need to force it to be reloaded - simply press shift (or is it ctrl) while hitting the reload button.

"Now what would be excellent would be something to automate the 3-step process of nominating for AfD" -- well I've now built that, but not tested it. Good work so far, but shouldn't the list of parties be made into to links, each of those parties would be deserving of an article. Ideally the article should also be in a category. - SimonP 17:09, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a category, while the article still isn't perfect, I don't think it needs a wikify tag. - SimonP 17:23, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA and interested in your own RFA?[edit]

I want to thank you for your vote in my very impatient quick RFA.Its probaly going to be no-consious and I was too quick to think than wait for Essjay to nominate me on December 1st I understand your oppose vote and another thing. I always see you in AFD and Im pleased with your work. Interested in nominating you for adminship as you are more qualified than me for it right now. Let me know so I could create your RFA Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 01:28, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • If it fails which is likely I think Redwolf24 or Essjay is going to nominate me for admin in December which is not a self-norm. You should think about RFA right now you whould clearly pass.You have more than 3 months in Project, 2400 edits and one of the most active users I see in AFD as well so its a easy pass. But I still accpet your decition. Thanks for your response

AFD Nomination Helper[edit]

You wrote "There may be some issue with the Afd Template appearing on the page?" From the looks of the history, the afd on Erustication didn't complete... But if the one on Blannoying worked, I don't see why, and you may have accidentally cancelled...? With regards to all the popup windows: I didn't want to do it like that originally; I wanted a split 3-way frame, but Wikipedia doesn't like frames and escapes them at all opportunities. Thanks for trying this out, and I'm glad to hear it sort of works! jnothman talk 22:35, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

your rv's[edit]

You are putting Reverting vandalism by 168.8.230.251, but there was no edits by this IP, and you are removing random content. Please stop or explain these actions. Thank you. «»Who?¿?meta 01:48, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for replying. I thought that's what you were doing, but some of them seemed like vandalism, like changing "female" to "femail" and they were very sporadic. I was not sure if your account was hijacked or what, as I didn't see the IP in the immediate history, on the ones I checked quickly. I will go thru the contribs and try to help out. Thanks for replying. «»Who?¿?meta 01:56, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Irish Republic infobox[edit]

A user is trying to have the Template:Irish Republic infobox deleted. Your comments would be welcome. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 21:36, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. The template can be seen working in Irish Republic. The nomination to delete is at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. It strikes me as one of the most ridiculous nominations I have ever seen on WP. It is a perfectly working template in standard form. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 21:48, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alice Kyteler[edit]

Hi, The Madonna Oriente article refers to documentation of sexual with the Devil. I haven't come across this particular accusation and would appreciate it if you could give me the reference. Thanks, Dlyons493 Talk 12:50, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Actually I don't remember exactly; it was somewhere online using Google. According to http://www.pegpress.org/women.htm, it is written in The Sorcery Trial of Alice Kyteler (1324), Translated by L. Sharon Davidson and John O. Ward. The existing text was a copyvio and I tagged it as such. I did notice your offer of a re-write, so please let me know if you do re-write it, and I'll change my opinion to a keep. --GraemeL (talk) 14:07, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I stumbled across this article this morning because of a minor irregularity in the afd's closing. I noticed that the article started out as a clear copyright violation from the web site, and that your rewrite was incremental instead of complete. This makes the article a derivative work, which infringes the original authors' copyright as much as if it had been left in place, even if none of the original text remained (and several sentences still do - see the diff between the first and current revisions]).
Most likely the owners of the web site actually placed the article there in the first place as an attempt at advertisement, and they'd likely grant permission if I sent them a confirmation of permission email; however, if it was someone else who copied it into Wikipedia, or if they disliked the way the article was rewritten, we would have to delete it when they complained - including the portions that you were the sole author of.
What, ideally, needs to be done here is for the article to be rewritten on a temp page without working from the original text or any of the revisions directly derived from it. It would most likely be sufficient, in practical terms, to place the first two paragraphs (which, so far as I can tell, do not contain any derivative text) in a temp article, delete the original, and move that in. This would have to be done before anyone else makes a substantive edit, unless those edits were discarded; otherwise, we'd be infringing their copyright. —Cryptic (talk) 16:48, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From Mgm on 16:43, 12 November 2005 (UTC).[reply]

I don't like how the anon compared schools and bus stops, they are two totally unrelated things, but the fact remains that the article was pretty crappy. If people on AFD need to look for information to determine whether the article should be kept outside of Wikipedia, the article creator did a bad job. If you can expand the article to include something that's unique to this school or just a few more, I think it has a very good chance at being kept (excluding votes by people who say all schools should be included no matter how much the article sucks). Feel free to get back to me once you've expanded it, so I can consider changing my vote. - Mgm|(talk) 16:40, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • By the way, I appreciate the fact you are actually doing something to improve the article rather than voting keep and leaving a substub for all eternity. Actually expanding a school article is much better than moaning about it being on AFD. Have a WikiThanks flower and keep up the effort. - Mgm|(talk) 16:43, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Research in ireland[edit]

It may be a good idea to review your votes on some of ComChat's nominations. If you find his actions disruptive, please start an RFC, or contribute to one if it already exists. The particular article this AFD refers to (Blop) is entirely nonsensical and it would be very bad to keep it just because ComChat nominated it. Please vote based on the article that is being discussed. - Mgm|(talk) 10:40, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Meelick hurling club[edit]

Hi, I did some searching on the subject on wikipedia. Basically, it seems that there aren't any articles on individual Hurling clubs per se, they're listed on the Galway GAA and similar pages with usually very little information. You could start a Meelick GAA article and move the relevant information from the hurling club article there. I even found a link from google [2] might have some more info. - Bobet 12:28, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've replied about your thoughts on this article on my talk page. I'll copy them here:
The question is whether there is anything else worth writing. Looking at the present ramblings, it would be left as a one or two line stub, unlikely to improve. Maybe it would be best to just leave it, and if it really is notable for that fact alone, mention it in hurling. Harro5 21:31, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wouldn't it just be best to make the improvements to the article - if there's enough for it to be useful as a stub - and let the AFD play out, or even be withdrawn, as a result? Otherwise it will simply be deleted and no one will think twice. Harro5 21:46, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the original author made a mistake in naming this article. It should be called Mel Stitzel, who was a pianist with the New Orleans Rhythm Kings. He has writing or co-writing credits for several notable songs in the 1920's with three links from Music in 1923, 1924 and 1926 respectively to Mel Stitzel.

I have rewritten the article to establish notability and suggest moving to Mel Stitzel. I would be grateful if you could take a look. Capitalistroadster 05:16, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
