F1 points systems

[edit]

You seem to feel that points systems used in the past can be directly related to current races. However the effect of a points system change is not solely mathematical so any attempt to do this is crystal balling and synthesis. Please stop. Britmax (talk) 10:44, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am doing this because you are making an incorrect assumption with regard to these results. It is a common error (people make it in football as well) so I shall explain it. The number of points were changed to stimulate more exciting racing by encouraging drivers to, say, go for a win rather than settle for second place because the points differential is greater so you have more to gain. This means that calculating the number of points a driver would have received cannot simply be a mathematical issue and trying to guess what would have happened is WP:SYNTH and not valid.
