Diplomatic missions in SPB[edit]

Hi, I am working on diplomatic missions in Russia, and am trying to enlist the help of Wikipedians in the different Russian cities to provide photos which we can use on this article. As you are Saint Petersburg, I was wondering if you may be in the position to be able to take some photos of the various consulates in Saint Petersburg, so that we can use them on that article. Oh, you have an English page as well ! I didn't know. I had been thinking of moving my main page to another language to avoid politics.

I have been taking the ISS page in a direction that better reflects it's origin and context amongst space stations. For the English article and editors not much was mentioned about the roots of the ISS in MIR-2 for example, it seemed nobody knew who paid for Zarya, many sites say America paid for it, while they paid for construction, they didn't pay for development. The European Columbus module had it's origin in a proposed space station program called the man-tended free flyer. It was to use the Hermes spaceplane.

The Russian article, like the previous English one doesn't mention that Звезда was completed during the mid 80's as part of the MIR-II project. I noticed while working on the article that the majority of editors (and I would guess therefore readers) were unaware of the solar panels on the ФГБ and Звезда. They absorb solar energy from both sides, which I thought was interesting, people wouldn't know that. The USOS panels do too. The diagram has errors like the П.О. панель there are 6 of them, but two are shown in the diagram. I don't think they are notable it would be better to go with Фотоэлемент for both the ФГБ and Звезда, they are more prominent and educational. П.О. панель, there are a lot, spread throughout the station. But the best solution for the linking and diagram is a wikipedia annoted image. There is exactly what I mean here where you click on the diagram. We can use that in all the articles in all the languages.

I've written up a section covering docking procedures, how each country's spacecraft attach to the station. First orbit, the movie, is not included, but I mentioned that.

The criticism section only covered American criticism in the english article, nobody cared to fix it, so I ended up deleting it, maybe you could translate some of the Russian criticism from the Russian article and I can restore that section ? it would be great to get some Japanese criticism too. Although Kibō is so popular and has won an award.

The docking schedule table, I think we could turn it into a template, one with less wording, so it can be in all the articles, it's popular with people on english wikipedia, they update it regularly, so a template would make their work go a lot further. Wikipedia Stories Project[edit]

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!
