Proposed deletion of Afro-New Orleans Culture[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Afro-New Orleans Culture, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non-notable neologism

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Congo Square Nation Afro-New Orleans Cultural Group[edit]

Afro-New Orleans culture is a term coined and trademarked by NEA Jazz Master Big Chief Donald Harrison, Jr. He came up with the term after working in Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazil, and Afro-Caribbean bands and participating in their culture. He felt Afro-New Orleans is the best way to describe New Orleans' many offshoot Congo Square cultures. Many scholars and cultural participants agree Congo Square is ground zero for the influence of African culture in the music and culture developed in New Orleans by people of African descent. From the inception of people of African descent being able to participate in their homeland culture to the present, the music and culture, along with its offshoot cultures, have influenced the world. Congo Square has proved to be a significant root contributor to global culture.

In New Orleans culture, Big Chiefs recognize Harrison as the present Big Chief of Congo Square. He leads a group named The Congo Square Nation Afro-New Orleans Cultural Group. The group's mission is to maintain the ancient ideas and musical and cultural ties with Africa within the tribe and teach the culture and music to those who pass their initiations.
