150 days of protection

Could you please unprotect Superman 64? It's been 150 days now (protected December 13, 2005). And while it did have a bunch of vandalism, it was by anonymous users - shouldn't it have only been semi-protection in this case, rather than full-out protection? Hbdragon88 03:36, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

I was partially kidding, I am slowly learning that the odds of mistakes raise when you edit more. A lesson that slams you down quite quickyl. Actually, I am quite glad that you left a message before on my talk. I learned something new: be more careful. Yanksox 01:53, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

My page

I understand your point. I just translated the page on myself that was created in the Italian Wikipedia. There was a discussion and votation about the correctness to have it. It was accepted. Than it was elaborated by various people. I did not write the actual page. I just keep it up to date, for example, adding a new book when I publish it (I am a writer and journalist). --Dejudicibus 13:40, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice in discussion page of Dario de Judicibus. It will probably avoid misunderstandings. I appreciate it. By the way, I am planning to develop few entries in English version of Wikipedia about Italy (since I live in Rome), but my English is not so fluent as I would. Do you think someone will support me to develop quality articles, in case mine are not as good as expected here?--Dejudicibus 14:32, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Roger Ambrose article

DS, would it be possible for you to review the discussion happening over the article concerning me, Roger Ambrose? I have found in your past involvement and comments a level of civil and honest communication. I am not trying to pull any illegal or unethical thing off here, but I am at a loss at the discourse over anything I do or say. Roger ambrose 01:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Flaunt/Flout in ILP's RfA

I'd already commended Cyde for having corrected his error (indeed, I told him that he'd been saved from the grammar, syntax, orthography, and vocabulary stick with which I often beat other users) when I learned from your oppose that you'd made the corrections; you are, then, to be praised (of course, now Cyde must, to his considerable chagrin, be beaten; after all, he rather flaunted his flouting of the rules of usage).  :) Joe 20:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely let him know.

Actually, now that we are friends, the octa is my father, and yes, I definitely relayed your sentiments on to him. However since he lives about a 10 hour drive away, i have not had the chance to pry more wikipedia stuff out of him recently. Every visit we do one or two new things or perhaps bit into some old thing, but long journey begins with first step and you were actually a very useful first step in that he got to see how wikipedia really works - which is to say, [opinion] real people sorting stuff out. I am currently moving and schlepping all my books has reminded me of all the many times i have renounced material goods in past lives and i am vaguely thinking of doing it again. Hello there,

Please could you inform me why you removed the article on Novel Twists (which, by the way, wasn't created by me)

Question...

Hey DragonflySixtyseven,

I have a question for you. On the page Slipknot (band), I added a section about what bands they are compared to. I would like to know if there is a way to ask other users for help in adding more bands to the list. Thanks.

Blocking

Dear DS, it certainly would have been in my mind that I can make a page and give people its links--an easier way is always more welcome. But the conditions of Hindi wiki is so pathetic, that directly giving instructions seems almost the only way to encourage people, rather than sending a one line link which hardly anyone cares to follow. Exceptions have to be made sometimes. Cygnus_hansa 04:45, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Dear DS, you said that you would block me in a few minutes on my page, but it seems that you didn't. I went to bed after that and it seems that the blocking time automatically expired. Please explain. And it seems that you have also reverted most of my talk messages (another great admin did the rest). This cannot be. I am going to rerevert them, and I assure you, only for the native/advanced speakers of Hindi. I agree that the last time, I had also included a few (countable on fingers) who had made accounts on Hindi wiki and written some stuff in Hindi, but about whose linguistic skills I did not know very well. If they (those whom I am going to rerevert) personally wish to delete it, fine, no problem. I have started getting rational responses on my talk pages--except one, no one complained of spamming.Cygnus_hansa 16:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
I am satisfied with your answer. Thanks.Cygnus_hansa 17:55, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Bishop

I don't have my comics to hand here, so while I remember several confirmations to that effect, I can't quote an issue (and it's going to take a few hours even when I do get the chance...). However, a few points I can substantiate off the top of my head:

  1. He was never referred to with any name other than "Bishop" before X-Treme X-Men.
  2. His sister's name (not codename, name) is "Shard", no other name, and they referred to each other as "Bishop" and "Shard" as children.
  3. Nor have any of the other Xavier Security Enforcers/Xavier Underground Enforcers characters been given any other real names. - SoM 18:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello (sorry for the delay...)

Hello, your message was very kind. You've welcomed me over a month ago but unfortunately I've only lately started getting acclimated to Wikipedia and I've finally started my user page. If you have free time, please pay a visit to an article I've written on Alice de Janzé and tell me of any suggestions, corrections etc. (including the two images I've uploaded). By the way, I presume that you are a comic fan (given some of the updates you list) which is cool, I also love comics! Xanthi22

Sorry, I'm new here!

Sorry about the original research thing. I was confused the first time I read through the "original research" clause on one of the instructions pages and for whatever silly reason, I read it wrong, and thought that was what they WANTED. Please forgive me, as I'm new and am having trouble understanding the instructions on this site. In fact, I hope I'm using this User Talk page correctly. Man, I feel stupid. Anyways, no hard feelings over my article.

Why did you delete the MHS Q store article

Hi, I noticed you said you like to create articles on obscure topics and then have people delete them so you can prove their notability.

Well anyway the delete log says you deleted the "Melbourne High School Q Store" article. I know the article may have seemed a bit stupid, but the Q Store is an actual real place with an interesting history. The main point of making it was because people keep asking questions about it; about the tunnels, what it was used for in WWII, etc. Since Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia I thought maybe I could write an article on it which would hold the information they want. I was yet to start started on the history part when it was mercilessly deleted.

Thanks

Hello. We are talking after a long long long gap. And, I am not an expert, but try to contribute based on certain sources. I thank you fro your compliments. I never heard of above deity or god. But, in Hinduism, a saying goes that there are millions of gods! Still, I have not heard of the name. This is a common Indian name, and it means Indra of Dharam and is made up of two Sanskrit words, namely, Dharam and Indra. I do not know notability of the god Dharmendar. Unless the editor who created this stub or some more editors come forward who may have some idea, the stub shall not grow at all. Strangely, the stub has been created by an user having the same name! --Bhadani 15:33, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hey, how are you doing? I was wondering if you could have a look on my articles on Weaveworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaveworld) and the fictional character of Immacolata from that book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immacolata). They are both far from being flawless and require a bit of a cleanup but I need your opinion, since you are far more expert than me. By the way, have a look on the article about X-Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Man). Not mine, but I think it needs to be split into different sections, one section is way too long and difficult to read. Thanks in advance Xanthi22 00:22, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Schmeer

G'day DragonflySixtyseven, I hope this is the correct location to be posting this kind of comment? If it is not, then I apologise. I recently signed up as a Wikipedia User, and posted an article titled 'Schmeer' which was deleted as follows: 14:46, 23 June 2006 DragonflySixtyseven deleted "Schmeer" (apparent hoax).

I have to agree with you that it was a pretty frivalous topic! But I assure you that the article was not written in jest. I understand that many articles are probably created that are out of the square, but I thought that is what made Wikipedia so amazingly useful and interesting? I desired to contribute on a serious, if different, point that someone might just find interesting; I am sorry if I missed the boat. I wonder, is there any way of possibly restoring the article? If not, is it worth me typing it up again, or is this type of thing just way to far out of the desired Wikipedia content?

I can appreciate that you must see a lot of 'hoax' articles that are in many ways senseless, and that you cannot be seen to condone the retention of actual jokes. Thanks for your time.

Schmeer

Thanks for your very prompt reply, DragonflySixtyseven. Although it will not be as instantaneous, I will get some information together about the term ‘Schmeer’ and get back to you in the near future; I come from South Australia, which may go far in explaining why those Aussies you talked to may not have heard of the term. Thanks also for your understanding. Coppafeel 03:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Policy clarification

Do you agree that it is acceptable to pursue a personal vendetta if it meets all Wikipedia guidelines? The assumption that the present state of Wikipedia is accurate and editing-for-revenge is necessarily detrimental is fallacious. Consider that the present state can be improved, as it always can, and I happen to know that doing so will hurt an enemy. In which case, my motives become irrelevant. Stating the motive should also be irrelevant to Wikipedia, though it became erroneously topical Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Aspies_For_Freedom. If you cannot assume good faith, please take more time to investigate the validity of my editing. CalG 04:20, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I take your points but I say for the third time that my edits are purely for the benefit of Wikipedia. You have accused me of frivolous nomination for deletion without once offering an explanation. There was nothing frivolous about the nomination and no one has demonstrated otherwise. I accept that you cannot assume good faith. That leaves you required to look deeper into my edits, or to assume bad faith. Incidentally, there was no trickery to get Amy to make legal threats, if that gives you an insight into the entirely irrelevant business of why I dislike her. She has mentioned 'libel' in many locations on Wikipedia. I'm sure this is fine. CalG 21:56, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Please undelete X One Page

You erroneously deleted a very factual page about a change in the transportation industry. I know you described it as promotional in nature, however, this is a fundamental change in the tire, trucking, and transportation industry. Tires were first solid, then pneumatic, then bias, then fitted to dual assemblies, then radial and now the X One takes them back to being single. Additionally, it is an innovation and a contribution to the environment (using less natural resources to produce and consuming less while in operation). Your consideration is appreciated. Article on "Rashid Khan"

In the article about “Ustad Rashid Khan” it is very important to mention that he is a “Classical” singer. Please see the history of edits, it will show that I tried to mention that he is a Indian Classical singer. Secondly it is important to mention that the style of his singing is that of “Sahaswan Gharana”. There are many different styles of Indian Classical music that is identified by its “Gharana”.

I intend to start this article and subsequently add/invite contents about other notable singers of "Sahaswan Gharana".

New Wollaton Waggonway and Huntingdon Beaumont pages

Thanks for your welcome message Dragonfly67. Although the text is almost identical on both sites I am the author, copyright holder, of it and was therefore able to take a decison to release it as public domain for both sites. As recommended I will update the WRC site with the copyright release text reference you mention so as to tidy up the loop for the two pages as not all the WRC site is regarded as copyright free.

I am still learning about Wikipedia as a contributor but as a main aim of those of us behind the WRC website is to promote knowledge of waggonways and early railways to the widest audience participation in Wikipedia is a logical progession too.

Frederic Lewey / Lewy

Hi!

I started on an article about FH Lewy, and I see that you have tidied it up for me. I will continue writing on it, as I know quite a lot on the subject. But I have a problem with the title. The man was born as Friedrich Heinrich Lewy, and anglicised his name to Frederic Henry Lewey, with an extra "e"! However, he is always referred to as Lewy, without the "e". At no time was he called Frederic Lewy, as the title of the articel implies. "Frederic Lewy" was an empty link form an article on dementia, I believe. How can this be cleared up?

Also, I note that under births and deaths, you hav written "Levy", which is also incorrect.

Greetings,

Peter

Help with Hilda Hongell

Thanks for your welcome message and thanks for fixing up my article on Hilda Hongell. It is one of my first contributions and I still have a lot to learn about Wikipedia etiquette and layout. So your contribution is appreciated.

I work full time, so my contributions are likely only to be every now and then. But I feel I have already caught the Wikipedia "bug".

By the way, are there some conventions about how many and the type of categories that you should put at the end of an article, particularly when one is just writing a stub? Are the category lists needed to make sure your article appears in appropriate category lists or are these lists produced automatically by the Wiki soiftware?

As a expert in the history in Americana music, as per my research on ART LORIA, "Doo Wop Performer / Singer" his information was very valuable to my current book project due to his associations with various performing groups from the late 1950's & 1960's. His discography of recorded music can be found on the Broadcast Music Inc page, DJ Productions Page, Alpineusa1.com Page where there is a pictorial history of his carreer, mymusic.com page, Jive Five Soulfull Kind of Music Page, Doo Wop Society of California page, etc....but there are just tidbits. Your page had all his early history that I was really Focused on. Due to this vandalism that I truly understand, I would ask you reconsider putting his musical contributions page back on line for it is of historical significance. Thank you. DOOWOPOLDIES1

PAST COMPLAINTS / REPLYS Art Loria ARTICLE - reply I understand your frustration at the actions of 68.194.159.223 that you feel compromise the integrity of Wikipedia pages. Unfortunately, I am not a site administrator so my powers are just as limited as yours. The best I can do is place a warning on his/her talk page, which could attract the attention of an admin. (As for BeatleWill, there isn't such a username. The user who calls him/herself BeatleWill is actually the IP address above.)

Since you're dealing with an IP address (which is not static), I would suggest that you and "BeatleWill" work something out on the Art Loria talk page. You can also have a look at Wikipedia's Dispute Resolution policy; it provides other avenues you can pursue.

I hope this is helpful. ... discospinster talk 17:47, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey there I am an administrator, so I'll look into the problem today. Unfortunately, as has been indicated, the user with whom you're having trouble is contributing via an anonymous IP; the worst that can be done is for his IP to be blocked - and it's not impossible that he'd simply take another IP and come right back and keep causing trouble.

I hope that your problems will be easy to resolve. DS 12:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

That dice game deletion

"Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, please consider whether an article could be improved or reduced to a stub. Also, please note that some Wikipedians create articles in multiple saves, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its initial creation. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets; it would also be considerate to notify the original author — remember, everyone was new once."

I believe I did put the stub in there. I, if it isn't plainly obvious, am new to this, and it wasn't some stupid college joke to make this page. I'd hope you'd reconsider deleting my page.

THAT...was quick.

Thanks for reverting my userpage. I've got to admit, that was kinda funny... :) -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 21:49, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

How does one attempt to steal someone else's password on Wikipedia, exactly? This block has been appealed to unblock-en-l and the context is not clear. Thanks. Georgewilliamherbert 09:49, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Blocked

I am blocked from editing. This makes no sense because I did nothing wrong. The only reason I'm posting this on your talkpage is because you apparently blocked me. I didn't post the comment attributed to me and I would appreciate it if you could unblock me because it's slightly annoying to not be able to edit. Thank you. --Flyingcheese 22:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't remember the exact block message but it had something to do with "STOP WRITING MESSAGES IN BINARY YOU FUCKTARDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111", or words to that effect. Keep in mind that those are not my words but what it said on the block message. Also I'm not blocked anymore. Thanks again. --Flyingcheese 09:19, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Looks like there might be some confusion here. The IRC message was related to them creating the article not the user. The user was created and blocked sometime before and the user was tagging it as an imposter. They are requesting an unblock now, can you take a look. (The log doesn't suggest they created the account). --pgk(talk) 19:12, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Fixed AfD closing

Hi, I hope you don't mind but I fixed a little glitch when you closed the AfD for Tiny disc. You forgot to include the bottom part of the template, so in the list for that day the blue box was extending all the way to the bottom of the page. --Aguerriero (talk) 18:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Lumber Cartel

1 - The AfD was only 2 days old, there was no reason to remove it 2 - There were more people suggesting delete than keep, so the result was not a keep.--Crossmr 19:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Don't use your administrative powers to push PoV. Closing the AfD at this point is inappropriate, and there is on overwhelming concensus for delete not keep. This has been placed on Deletion review.--Crossmr 20:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm re-opening, per my reasoning on WP:DRV. Please don't war over this further without more discussion. --Sam Blanning(talk) 20:03, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
WP:HOAX#Hoaxes_vs._articles_about_hoaxes And Lumber cartel doesn't meet hoax, it didn't receive sustained media attention. Stop tying to WP:OWN Lumber Cartel and unlock it.--Crossmr 20:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
I have unprotected the article. The fact that an admin is working on it does not justify protection. --Sam Blanning(talk) 20:21, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Do not edit my comments, any spelling errors are my own.--Crossmr 21:08, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Crossmr is looking for an apology for closing the AfD early and protecting the article for no apparent reason other than you were editing it (see my talk page). While I honestly think he's reading too much into this, taking the time to correct his spelling but not to give any sort of indication of whether you believe your actions were correct or not is somewhat off-putting. Personally, I don't want you to self-flagellate, I just think it would be a good idea to let us know if you intend on conducting AfDs and article protections in this way again. --Sam Blanning(talk) 22:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

About the page that I created that you claim to have deleted

I checked your deletion log and the I am assuming that this was Template:Armking. Another user commented about it being unnecessary and I told him that I didn't mind if it was deleted, I don't have a problem with your deletion of it. If you are talking about some other page, then please let me know more about it and I may give you my e-mail address.--Conrad Devonshire Talk 20:58, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Could you unblock me please?

My name is User:King of the North East, my usual IP address is 81.96.242.176. I am at the public library now. You Barred me from editing because I blanked a table that I made, on Category:Listed Buildings in Leeds]] (a page that I started), I moved it to Listed buildings in Leeds, where I meant to put it in the first place.

because I was barred I was prevented from completing the work I was doing on the construction of Listed buildings in Leeds.

I am fairly new to Wikipedia so I didnt know that erasing my own work would be considered a crime against the system.

please look at my contributions and compare them with IP 81.96.242.176 contributions. You will see that they are both me, my computer at home keeps logging me out causing the confusion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by King of the North East (talkcontribs) 2006-07-13 09:14:00 (UTC)

If I had received this message from you, I would have been highly confused: "What are they talking about - they cannot mean this edit because it was patently obvious that that blanking was totally correct since it was a category 'article' ". Please be more careful. -- RHaworth 15:11, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
I have now seen your apols on the King's talk page so all is OK. -- RHaworth 17:01, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you very much for improving the article! It did need to be improved and also needed some restructuring. I hadn't even realized I had mistaken heroine with heroin! Jesus! Also, thanks for correcting the Category links. I'm still pretty much an amateur when it comes to these things. I really think you've improved the article significantly. By the way, Damala does look like an asshole. Pretty egotistical person. His daughter, Teresa, was an amazing woman, though. I don't think I'm going to write an article about her, though, most people wouldn't believe her story, it's pretty unbelievable what she's been through.

Again, thanks very much. If you ever want any help or favour, let me know! -- Xanthi22 17:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Er, what the hell? Why block someone indefinetly because of their name? I mean if you seriously have a problem with someone then try maybe blocking them, say, for the act of vandalism they may have commited, then when it runs out, wait for them again, and again. I mean come on, as if you give a shit about my name, you just wanted me out. So I hereby award you a middle finger for being such a pathetic loser. Check the old user page as well. Thanks for the support

Hello,

Thanks for your note of support. I'm to the point of proposing to other professionals that we start a form of Wikipedia that would focus only on truly encyclopedic Articles - leaving out the tabloid bullshit - and that the editing be restricted to persons who state their area(s) of expertise. Professionals DO disagree a lot on issues, but when they are in a discussion (allright, argument) with someone, they at least know that the person they are spending the time going head-to-head with has some knowledge of the subject.

Be healthy,

Michael David 14:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Psychology Wiki

The Logo for the Psychology Wiki.

Hi DragonFly,

I noticed on Michael's page and from his comments here that you told him about the Nupedia project, which didnt really work. I was wondering that if you encountered anyone else like Michael, if you could point them in the direction of our project The Psychology Wiki.

It is different from Wikipedia, because approximately 90% of our contributors so far are psychologists, either professionals, academics, or students and trainees.

Our site is hosted by a company called Wikia, which was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley. There are Google Ads on the site, but we dont make money from the project, they're just to pay for the bandwidth, storage and technical support that Wikia give us.

Have a look and see what you think. As you are an Admin, could you give us any advice or criticisms on the site? At present I am attracting contributors from professional psychologists/psychiatrists/trainees/students on Wikipedia. Is there any easy way to reach out to all of these people simultaneiously (theyre not all categorised, so its tricky finding them).

Where is the right place for us to leave messages to attract new contributors? So far I've been using user_talk pages and discussion pages. The only other WP admin I've asked about this is User:Sango123 and she thought we were doing OK.

Cheers

Mostly Zen 00:29, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for having a look at our project Dragonfly,
Yes, it will be open for anyone to edit, at the moment though, we are finding that its a project that mainly psychologists are wanting to contribute to, rather than the general reader. At the moment its as easy to edit as WP is.

If we get lots of people who are not psychologists editing (over a certain proportion, which we havent worked out yet!) then we might have to consider asking people to register, and maybe consider restrictions, but we're not at that stage yet.

I am only inviting Psychologists though, I've left messages like the one on your page on about 20 psychologists talk pages tonight. Last night I left about 25. I think I am rapidly running out of psychologists on WP! No one has been annoyed yet, as I've personalised all the messages in a friendly so as to not look like a spammer.

Later on though, we are considering asking Wikipedians by mental condition (its a category) to consider sharing personal experiences of mental health on non-NPOV personal experience pages. We might email a lot of wikipedians when we do that, so I'll be careful not to ask too many at once (ill do batches of 15 or so about once a week i guess).

Thanks for the advice

Mostly Zen 02:42, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I knew the article was in English. I meant what was an article about some Indian film actor doing on the english wikipedia. Do we have an article for even ONE of his movies? I'm hoping you really didn't understand the reason for listing the article for deletion and you weren't just trying to be funny with the comment "The result was keep - it was in English in the first place, what are you talking about?. It's not easy being green

Hello, regarding my innuendo regarding the Brian Peppers situation: I wrote some extensive, fairly well reasoned arguments in the talk page for that article after it was executive-removed for exactly one year, but after a while some of the admins who were not happy with the dissent had the talk page also permanently removed. Apparently, even educated opinions were not welcome and were "a waste of time that could be spent elsewhere". It was in that instance I learned that this project does have a questionable side: harmless and constructive dissent was quashed for no other reason than it bothered some people higher up. I still believe in the value of the project, but it opened my eyes to some of the flaws that are more unsettling that mere vandalism. ...right, and I should probably tell you why I thought the Peppers' article was worth having (I'll summarize points I made there):

  1. He's a notable interent celebrity/meme in the same way that Mahir Çağrı, Ghyslain Raza (who was not happy with the fame), Amir Massoud Tofangsazan (same as Ghyslain), O RLY? (as just a famous image);
  2. He was a notable enough meme to warrant a lengthy investigation on Snopes(link) and (unfortunately or not) a number of references on places like YTMND (again, this establishes some notoriety/notability for how far a meme has spread);
  3. Having a handicap should never mitigate inclusion in an encyclopedia, it's awful that anyone should suffer from his problems, but allowing feeling sorry for someone's condition to get in the way of a clinical observation of notability is unprofessional;
  4. why he became famous is worthy of inclusion, but the reason shouldn't be written off as unimportant since it's clearly why so many people have heard of the individual --yes he's ugly, it's sad that it's why he became notable but that's why we all know who Joseph Merrick is;
  5. Not wanting an article about you, when you've made it into the public sphere (being convicted of a crime is very much in the public sphere as a matter of near-universal public policy), should not be a factor;
  6. At the very least he deserves a small entry on the internet meme page, but that apparently wasn't okay either (very strange);
  7. there is a lingering sentiment among some editors that all internet memes are unworthy of inclusion on Wikipedia, thus each one usually faces a VfD at least once --Peppers survived a few and still it was erased by administrator action...with arguments that it wasn't encyclopedic. This argument was disingenuous considering all the other articles kept, and it does not hold up to the above reasons for inclusion.

Anyway, I hope that summarizes the messy situation over there. The Peppers article was blanked in Feb (for a year) and the associated talk page was blanked by angry admins a month or so later. All the best, Bobak 15:27, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the well thought response, but I think the very fact that the article kept getting recreated by various visitors (and established members... those of us on the pro-keep side were insulted by repeated statements that "all these vandals and anons keep wanting this article" --I lost much respect for several editors anymore because they show no depth in argument beyond this) only seemed to, in and of itself, show that there was a notable (if infamous) meme that had been removed by those who are automatically stacked against such things. You state that there were garbage versions of the article, but that can be said about many Wikipedia articles were developed into legitimate ones. And I'm not merely saying that the Peppers article "would've" been good, rather that there was a pretty solid article actually produced at the end by editors interested in seeing the article stay. A good article can be written, with sections on what's public knowledge about the individual, the rise of parodies, the snopes article, and aftermath (even if it was nothing). Besides, even if that isn't enough for a stand alone article, it doesn't explain why there was no allowance for even a mention on the internet meme article which has nothing but 1-2 sentence blurbs about memes like Peppers. --Bobak 19:07, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

I have been keeping an eye on some of the pages I edited during my Wikibinge a few weeks ago. I noticed that the most recent addition to Osmotherley is little more than a childish rant. Maybe you could do something about it?

Keep up the good work :)

I'm sorry. It was a harmelss joke. The last vandalism was in February. anything since was a dispute and should not be grouped together with vandalism. I am honestly trying to stop and being the first time for 6 and a half months is pretty good. Overzealous Blocking?

I noticed that you blocked 70.125.2.237 from editing, after they vandalized the Loxodonta page with some Colbert nonsense. This was the first edit from this IP address; shouldn't you have left them with just a warning? Not to mention that you called them an idiot, which is probably true but not too polite for a new user. Just wondering. CalebNoble 05:03, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

May I ask under what condition you decided that this was speediable? JoshuaZ 18:05, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Admin Abuses?

I've been following the Colbert problem lately, and I ran across your August 3 block of User:70.125.2.237. First off, you blocked him without any warnings, but I don't know if this was admin policy at the time or not. What caught my eye, though, was the message you left: "You're blocked for being an idiot." That got me looking into other stuff you've dealt with, and I've noticed a large number of complaints about "power trips", "abuses of authority", etc, etc. You were probably in the right in most of these cases, albeit rude and possibly too quick to delete/block.

The latest thing I've noticed is your treatment of User:68.32.79.169. He made a couple of insulting remarks about admins on the Talk Page of Latchkey kid; you replied by leaving this message on his talkpage: "Please do not be a dumbshit or you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Got it?" As you can see above, he replied with "What the heck are you talking about? Please do not use that kind of language." You replied, "Are you the one who edited Latchkey kid last night? If so, then the offensive language most certainly applies to you. If not, I apologise."

First, you were rude to an (apparently) new user. Second, you threatened to block him because of a couple of remarks he left on a talk page. Third, those remarks just happened to insult admins. Fourth, you suggested that he had edited the article Latchkey kid, instead of its talk page.

What's going on here? Even if there's a good explanation, I've noticed enough of a pattern with you to decide that you've probably got some issues. Just wanted to let you know, someone's always watching. User:CalebNoble 03:20, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply; I understand your frustration. If there's one thing I hate, it's stupid people, and the level of Wikipedia vandalism shows us how many are out there. The other thing I hate, though, is assholes; part of why I confronted you was to see how you responded. Thanks for being courteous.

You asked what "pattern" I was referring to; it's hard to answer this one, as it's just something I've sensed in reviewing your talk page. On the other hand, my perception is skewed, since you apparently make many, many edits, and no one would send you a message unless they really liked you or really hated you. The two things that bother me, though, are instances of rudeness and, more serious, threats. I could find some specific examples if you want me to, but my main concern is that you don't turn legitimate users off, a few of whom might end up being major contributors. Again, I understand why you get exasperated; maybe we just have different styles of communicating with jerks. User:CalebNoble 04:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Please watch your tone in blocking summaries and talk pages. If the vandals are getting to you and you can't keep your cool, stay away from vandal patrolling for a while. Getting a rise out of someone is what they're after - do not feed them. -- Jeandré, 2006-08-05t17:57z

I've been a twit. I meant to create a new article for FhC by starting with the article for SD, but typed directly over the top without taking a copy. Then renamed it. So, it seems there is now only one article, called FhC, which is probably OK. And the old SD article is lurking in the history somewhere. Are you an Administrator? I'd appreciate it if you could do the reversion, but if not let me know & I will take care of it - I hope. Really sorry about this. Tired. :-) GrahamBould 17:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Chuck Carter

Just out of curiosity - why is the page for Chuck Carter being continually changed? I am the real Chuck Carter and was flattered to see it there when it was originally posted to the site. But when my son showed me someone else there in my place, I was surpised that my bio was deleted. Just check the history. I've contributed to it's accuracy as have others and am curious about the change since people have used to to find out more about me personally, to find out about my role in Myst and National Geographic and contacted me through it.

So if there is a problem, please check the history as an administrator and let me know why it's has been changed.

Thank you.

Diacritics and page moves

Hi! Recently several editors, including yourself, have reverted edits by User:Gene Nygaard which moved pages to diacriticless titles, or expressed concern at the moves on his talk page. Despite this, Gene has carried on making many moves of this type, some of which will require admin work to revert - this behaviour is becoming disruptive, and is reducing consistency in article naming schemes. Further comments, suggestions and opinions would be welcome either at User talk:Gene Nygaard or at the section started by Renata3 at WP:AN/I. I believe this may require a report at RfM - please let me know if you think this would be a suitable action or otherwise. Aquilina 17:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

That is very, very strange because the article on the album had existed before, and none of the links pointing to the article have ever changed. Plus the deletion log only shows one "Trickle" deleted.

Your help is needed

  • In the Glenn Danzig article, there is a user by the name of Enzigel who is, I feel, jeopardizing the neutrality and some credibility of the article. He is very biased towards the artist and has been for quite a long time now deleting anything whatsoever of a "negative" slant on the subject matter, in order to paint a purely positive article. He has of late resorted to using the "Biography Of Living Persons" clause to give himself carte blanche to delete anything he chooses is not within the bounds of this clause. However, under that clause, it insists that only unsourced or poorly sourced negative comments should be deleted. Meanwhile, in the article, there are a lot of comments that are referenced. Some still need some work to find their references and links. But instead of discussing this or leaving a reminder tag for others, he simply removes everything. I have sent him a couple of messages and asking him to discuss with other contributors but he fobs it all off. If you look thru the article, the history, compare the most recent version I have edited and his most recent. Notice that there are certain things there being removed that are uncalled for. In mentioning Glenn's height, how is that a negativity that requires immediate deletion? In trying to tone down Enzigel's bias a little, giving a more even-handed comment, he goes and reverts it back as though it weren't positive enough to his liking. You will also notice that, yes, there ARE some comments left by other contributors that do need references/links. But instead of deleting them, he should be leaving a tag reminding people to find the references/links to support those comments left. Many of them are factual just not sourced or not sourced well enough. While, certain other comments (the def leopard, the video incident) have been well-sourced, and written about impartially by me - especially compared to older versions that Enzigel himself originally edited in which were in fact too biased and positive and untruthful. While Enzigel may be very right some of the time, he is not all of the time. Same goes for me. Therefore, I really do need your help in first analyzing the article, comparing my latest versions with his most recent ones, judging all this, and then having a word with him and me to sort it out. He may play it cool, but I doubt for long. He has a too strong love for Danzig that he will do whatever it takes to glorify the subject matter by deleting contributions. Can't help himself. If you notice my contributions on the GG Allin article, and analyze the GG Allin article, you will notice how everyone who contributes there has found a very comfortable working relationship with everyone else, both positive and negative viewpoints are allowed, no bias, no fanboyism, no anti-fanboyism, and everyone filling the article with references/links. A very good article and very good vibe among everyone there. But the Glenn Danzig article has been a bone of contention for quite some time now, with Enzigel himself editing and deleting carte blanche any iota of "negativity" (or non-glorification), which has caused many disputes in the talk page, which in itself has been edited and deleted of past disputes. It's basically Enzigel on a one-man mission to paint Glenn Danzig as favorably as possible. In acting this way, his fanboyistic behavior will only attract Glenn Danzig detractors to visit the site and actually vandalize it. But most of the contributors are not being vandals, just trying to actually flesh out the subject matter neautrally, but are being hindered by Enzigel. I may be in the wrong either completely or in some parts. Enzigel may be wrong completely or in some parts. Can you please sort this situation asap? Thanks. G.g. 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Missing

Wow. I didn't know Wikipedia kept such a list. Sure... you can remove me. But, I have an urge to ask you something, particularly because you seem to be a very active member of the encyclopedia.

Several years ago, I became very attracted to the process of writing articles. I put in hours and hours a day into developing articles, often entirely uprooting the entire thing and then redoing it. I think anyone who knows the general "Hinduism" links, like Hinduism, Yoga, Tantra, etc., some other articles like those on the FOIA and Sandra Day O'Connor, can vouch for the fact that I pretty much fathered those articles. I even took, with the help of a few other intrepids, take the Hinduism article to featured status.
That's when personal life came in and I had to leave for a while. But I was happy I'd contributed, proud of the work, and excited to have others read it and also, I kid you not, edit it, to make it even better. But then, I came back but a few months later, and in particular, the Hinduism article had been destroyed. It's structure, which I had painstakingly spent months on, was obliterated; the aesthetic appeal of the article itself was damaged, and sectarian views began flooding the page. Personal agendas.
What's the point? I sometimes see stuff which makes me want to do an edit... like in the Timothy Treadwell page (famed as the 'Grizzyman'). I see a major POV issue in the last paragraph which essentially reflects upon his exploits and career in Alaska, living with Kodiak bears. It is unremittingly negative, essentially giving voice ONLY to opinions stating he was mentally deficient, mad, f----d up in the head... dangerous, disrespectful... I can respect those views... but why isn't there a balance showing the other side of the equation, OTHER peoples' opinions, which see him as a visionary, an environmentalist, an adventurer, a lover of wildlife, a spiritually-evolved or at least unconventional figure? There's no balance... and I wondered, two, two and a half years after my major spat of postings... should I edit this?
What stops me? I am almost certain someone's going to come along and, without any reason, without even stating a reason, expunge my work.... or he/she'll litter the article with biases and erase anything which doesn't agree with his/her opinions, no care for NPOV or the higher philosophy of the attempt to objectivity in journalism and academic writing. So why should I bother with the public-domain encyclopedia? It's too much work, n'est-ce pas?

I'm sorry to have laid this all on you... I'm just trying to ask your opinion on this, as a veteran wikipedian: should I just leave for good? Maybe you should keep me on the missing persons list... thanks for your time. Keep posting and writing. LordSuryaofShropshire 13:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
