Upcoming DVD releases

I've been noticing lots of edits like this one. It seems that Target has been releasing DVD's of various USA series (In Plain Sight, Fairly Legal, and Necessary Roughness so far) in advance of wide releases. I entered the Target release dates into the DVD release tables on each page, each with a reference (though the pages linked to have since been taken down). I think we should list the first release date (the one at Target), but several people disagree in favor of the wide release. I'd fight this further, but I can't find any current evidence that the DVD's have been released (apart from them being on my shelf, but that can't really be verified). Which would you suggest using? Thanks. Kevinbrogers (talk) 15:43, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm on the general release side because I'm concerned that the earlier date is going to be perceived as advertising for Target. As ubiquitous as Target is, the DVD isn't widely available until the general release date, and I think that's the thinking behind the other editors' position. The way I see it, Target may do advance releases as a promotional event in collaboration with USA, but that's a bit like a sneak preview of a new series, in a sense, and it's definitely advertising. What I'd do is list the wide release date, then add a note regarding the early promotional release. It's accurate, verifiable and a reasonable compromise that will (hopefully) avoid an edit war. Then, if anyone gives you grief, I'll jump in and support that edit (I already follow most of the USA shows, and I don't want you perceived as canvassing.) How's that sound? --Drmargi (talk) 17:19, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. I've gone ahead and made the changes accordingly. Thanks again. Kevinbrogers (talk) 17:44, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Good luck! I see the changes in place. I'll go take a peek at them. --Drmargi (talk) 17:47, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Should I remove the notices?

Hi, I've been working on Juliet Cadzow, cleaning it up and wikifying it. Could you take a look at the past versions from when it was tagged for cleanup, copy editing, lead section and wikifying to see if I've tweaked it enough to remove these. I haven't added any new detail, and I don't know how reliable what's currently there is - I did add references and links to other Wikipedia pages too, though. --Tropzax (talk) 21:17, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

And also Sunstone Circuits I have attempted to make the content on this more neutral, is it alright before I remove this notice? I'm sorry, I mnust be badgering you. --Tropzax (talk) 21:29, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey, buddy! You're not badgering me. Let me go take a look at what you've done, and I'll get back to you. --Drmargi (talk) 22:26, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
OK... Juliet Cadzow looks much improved -- you've been a busy bee. Read over the issues in the tag, and if you feel you've addressed each of them, remove the tag. If not, remove the ones you have addressed from the tag. As for Sunstone, it's still got some issues. I don't think it was originally written by a native English writer, and it needs editing in American English. It also needs some development. Can you work on finding additional content for it while I get the English in shape? --Drmargi (talk) 22:31, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you? And of course, to research! --Tropzax (talk) 22:36, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

OK, I fiddled with the Sunstone Circuits article. I don't know what I think I saw in terms of English last night, but I must have been really tired when I read it. It was OK this morning. However, you lost a sentence, which was my real issue -- the statement about them using specific materials can be verified by a neutral third party and stayed in (find a source!), but the (also unsourced) quote about them being somewhat unique is gone for a couple reasons. Big reason, it reads like PR because it comes from the company, which was the objection by the person adding the tag. Small reason, which on its own could have been fixed: unique is an absolute -- something either is unique or its not, so a company can't be "somewhat unique", a common error in spoken English (we have two food-related TV shows that spend a half-hour a week misusing the word!) Otherwise, you did a great job giving the article a much more neutral voice, and with the issue in the tag addressed, I removed it.

I feel like I left you in the lurch with the Juliet C. tag, and didn't explain how to edit the tag. How are you coming there? I see you had to go to the Teahouse for help. --Drmargi (talk) 15:38, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Question about your review of my writing on Julie Finlay & D.B. Russell's pages?

Hello, I understand you went on to there pages and deleted most of the edits I did to them? Please can you just tell me what was wrong with my writing/edits? I would like to understand from your point of view so I can become a better writer.

House, removal of sources and common sense

The source says: "You may see Chase, Foreman and Co. back on TV next fall." Notice that the names are of the characters and not the actors. Please tell me you see that... Hearfourmewesique (talk) 20:01, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

No, I don't see that. You have to read that sentence in context. The next sentence says: The early announcement, coming at the start of pilot season’s casting phase, frees the show’s ensemble up to attach themselves to potential new series. The article then goes to talk about Laurie taking a break from series TV. They're talking about the U.S. pilot season, which just concluded (this was written in early 2012, before it began), and speculates about whether Spencer, Epps and the others will sign on for other pilots for the fall 2012 season, as at least Jessie Spencer eventually did do. They are not saying, suggesting or alluding to a spin-off. --Drmargi (talk) 20:31, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
So... no connection whatsoever to the fact that Ausiello chose to talk about "Chase, Foreman and co." rather than "Spencer, Epps and co."? Are we to utterly disregard that? Hearfourmewesique (talk) 20:39, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, you are. There are two issues here: jargon and Ausiello himself. He's very unreliable (he once said Goran Visnjic would be fired from ER to clear the budget for John Stamos' salary. Total fiction.) Worse, he writes in entertainment jargon. Are you American? (I'm guessing not because of the cup of tea.) It's very common in American entertainment media to refer to the actors by their character names. If there was going to be a spin-off Ausiello would be much more explicit, and there would be considerable publicity by now given the new series are about to be announced. When the Hollywood Reporter or TV Guide starts talking about a spin-off, then you have a reliable source. TVLine isn't reliable at all, period, and Ausiello has gone from writing for TV Guide, then Entertainment Weekly to a minor TV website. That should tell you something about his credibility. Now is when you exercise common sense.--Drmargi (talk) 21:02, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Cara/Kara

My bad. It's also spelled with a "C" in the episode list, I'll change that to a "K" as well. QuasyBoy (talk) 20:50, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

No bad. You had to be eagle-eyed to spot it. I happened to see it on the second run because that's when I generally look at the smaller details, and it was still partly dumb luck. I just fixed the episode list, so no worries. --Drmargi (talk) 20:53, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Coolness, I always watch POI episodes twice, too. :P QuasyBoy (talk) 20:57, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
At least twice! I'm just finishing up Cloo's Tuesday Burn Notice episodes, then have the whole season of POI available to watch (I work at home on T). Good stuff! --Drmargi (talk) 21:01, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Yep, POI is the BEST show of the 2011−2012 broadcast season, for me. Definitely getting the DVD when it comes out. QuasyBoy (talk) 21:06, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
It's on pre-order at Amazon. I was awake when the e-mail came recently and immediately went to Amazon to pre-order it. I was so glad to see it get an early renewal, and to see its audience continue to grow this season. I think we're in for several years of good viewing! (So, any theories on who Root is?) --Drmargi (talk) 21:14, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Definitely think Stanton is Root. QuasyBoy (talk) 21:52, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
It's not Zoe, that's for sure. Kara seems to be the obvious thought. I think I read somewhere we were due to see her again in one of the last episodes, so the timing is certainly right. Three to go; say it ain't so!! (Just watched the second episode again.) --Drmargi (talk) 22:36, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I haven't seen it yet. I'm download the torrent as I type. I hardly ever watch episodes live, because my house is crowded. I'm gonna watch it tonight. :) QuasyBoy (talk) 16:07, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
I will. :) QuasyBoy (talk) 18:34, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Looking foward to it. I was just watching Paley Center interviews with Caviezel and Emerson. C says the final four episodes run like a four-hour movie with respect to the back-story. We'll have plenty to talk about. We should decide which talk page to keep the discussion on, rather than splitting it!  ;-) --Drmargi (talk) 18:51, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

I saw the episode, spectacular, as usual. Will ever see Reese kill someone at the end of an episode, LOL. Do you have a Twitter or a TV.com account? QuasyBoy (talk) 19:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
It was indeed! I loved the last sequence of scenes, and then the twist that explained why Finch chose, and found, Reese. I don't have TV.com any longer (that's a long story!) and Twitter is just for work. I might reregister at TV.com if the discussion there is good. --Drmargi (talk) 19:11, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
The discussion on TV.com is pretty good, but IMDb is a lot more active though. I want to join the IMDb boards, but I need a credit card and what not. :( QuasyBoy (talk) 19:33, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't like IMDB, although I rarely discuss there. I don't like the idea of having to pay to join either. I'll check out TV.com. CBS has a forum; have you looked at it? --Drmargi (talk) 19:38, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I haven't seen the CBS forum. QuasyBoy (talk) 19:46, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Saw it, LOVED it. Fantastic finale for a fantastic first season. Amy Acker was GREAT. :) QuasyBoy (talk) 18:46, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I hope that you both enjoyed the finale. Left me looking forward to next Sept. Is it just me or does Brennan Brown look like a younger rounder version of Brent Spiner I thought I was missing something in the first episode his character was in because Spiners name wasn't in the credits :-) Cheers to you both. MarnetteD | Talk 23:15, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey TPS Marnette! There is a certain Spiner-esque quality to him, I'd have to agree. I think his character may turn out to be the honorable FBI agent in the middle of all the corruption, and may do some interesting things with Carter's character. And tell me, both of you, did you see Amy Acker being Root coming? Or even that this was all about Finch rather than Reese? They really played us, and no doubt brought Kara back just in time for us to leap to all the right (wrong) conclusions, even with the very subtle clue (Turing?) I haven't had a TV show do that in a while. They even had me believing for a minute that Paige Turco's character might be a baddie (oh, please don't screw with that character; I love her!) I am SO ready for the fall. --Drmargi (talk) 23:28, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
I did start to have suspicions about her part way through the episode but that is only because after six years of Lost I am used to the Abrams creative team messing with my perceptions. Speaking of which of the three children of Lost {Once Upon a Time and Alcatraz being the other two) POI turned out to be my favorite. MarnetteD | Talk 23:41, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Ah! I generally haven't cared for Abrams' programs, but love Jim Caviezel, which drew me to POI. It hasn't disappointed for a minute, and I never saw where we were going until the very last second, and that's rare. --Drmargi (talk) 23:57, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Endeavor

Based on our past discussion of British detective series I had been meaning to ask you if you have seen Endeavour (TV series). If not I don;t want to give anything away about it nut I did wonder what your reaction to it would be while I was watching it. MarnetteD | Talk 23:41, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

I have seen most of it, and was very impressed. I understand Colin Dexter is well-pleased with it as well. I got busy and didn't have a chance to finish it, but I will soon, since PBS is hacking up Sherlock so badly. Speaking of which, are you watching them? --Drmargi (talk) 23:49, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Well then there is one item I have to wait to talk about cause it is about the ending. I was impressed with the little physical traits of Thaw/Morse that Shaun Evans gave us. The tug of the collar etc. I also liked the fleshing out of some of the things in Morse's past that the original series had referred to over the years. I also like that we saw a young version of Max the pathologist as Peter Woodthorpe and John Thaw's interplay was a delight of the first three seasons of Morse. One question - If this is going to be the only Endeavor episode shouldn't the page be moved to take "series" out of its title?
As much as PBS is a a part of my life I tired, several years ago, of how they mess with the British programs. So I bought myself a region free DVD player and have been ordering the series from Amazon UK. Amazingly the product is often cheaper - even with the shipping costs - than buying the DVDs from Amazon US and I get to see the programs before they air on PBS or BBC America - or as I know call it the Top Gear/Gordan Ramsey channel. Sherlock has been brilliant and I love the jokes about Mycroft's weight. Speaking of Mark Gatiss who would have thought that one of The League of Gentleman zanies would be doing so many interesting things today. That also means that I should mention his one time colleague Steve Pemberton's WhiteChapel series. While not necessarily up there with some of our favorites it has had some interesting moments. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! MarnetteD | Talk 00:12, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Now you've got me all keen to watch it again. I remember hearing there was something interesting at the end, but forget what. I have a region free DVD player, too. Best thing since sliced bread! I do agree about Shaun Evans' portrayal. I had my doubts when I saw the first photos of him but he really had Morse as he went along. I got just to the point where Thursday persuaded him to have a drink. I'll probably go back and start over. I don't think I'd hurry to take series out of the article. I heard this was a potential pilot, just as Lewis was, and may yet be commissioned. I had the impression they might have already done so, but it's possible they're waiting for the PBS run. I think we're going to have to press the British/American production issue again, as with Downton, if the credits list Rebecca Eaton and WBGH. Ditto Lewis; too many of these productions are listed as British when in fact they're British-American with WGBH or BBC America co-producing.
Mycroft kills me. Did you read the chat with him the other day? He's so perfect for Mycroft, yet he got the role in such a serendipitous way. And I love, love, love Steve Pemberton in Whitechapel, not to mention Rupert Penry-Jones! I think I like the series better than you do; I thought it was rather novel, and particularly liked the cast in the most recent series. --Drmargi (talk) 02:27, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Well to be honest I really liked the first two series of W but found the third one a little uneven - not the cast though they were topnotch. One of the third season two parters reminded me of one of my rules for watching Morse - this is if Morse finds himself falling in love she is probably the killer :-) The second series inspired me to get the DVD of the film The Krays with the Kemp brothers. It included a documentary about the real Kray brothers. Both things helped me enjoy that series of W even more - though I was bummed when George Rossi's character died - I have liked him since his first film Comfort and Joy from 1984. I didn't see the recent interview with Gatiss but he does mention how he got the role on the DVD commentary. In a second season commentary Gatiss and Moffat mention how they look forward to seeing how Martin Freeman is going to react to certain lines or situations that they have written because they love his double takes etc. I'm torn - I enjoyed Endeavor but I don't know whether I want them to proceed in getting closer in time to the original series - though I'm sure they would do it well its a "less is more" feeling for me. I'll trust your judgement on whether the page should be moved at some point down the road if they don't produce more stories. I think Kevin Whately is approaching Kelsey Grammer's record for playing the same character - not number of episodes of course but number of years. One series that I can recommend as highly as possible is Our Friends in the North. It is one of the reasons I bought my region free player. Brilliant performances by all and the four main characters have gone on to bigger and better things. If you haven't seen it I hope that it fits into your budget one day or maybe you can view it online somewhere. Best regards. MarnetteD | Talk 04:01, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

I think your revert of my edit is not correct and I would like to invite you to explain it - citing policies and guidelines that support it - at Talk:Person of Interest (TV series)#Description of Kara Stanton. Regards SoWhy 16:21, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

I understand your point in your edit summaries about his major[1][2], but in fairness to the IP editor, numerous sources do say that he got a "corporate finance" degree from Cal, including his (presumably authorized) foundation bio[3] and articles in reliable sources such as CBS Sports[4], Philly.com[5], and Fox Sports[6]. On the other hand this 2009 ESPN.com piece calls it "business management"[7]. Best, --Arxiloxos (talk) 04:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

That may very well be, but what was in the article was completely unsourced, and Cal doesn't have a degree program in corporate finance, nor is their baccalaureate program a BA program -- that's on their website. I'm not naive enough to think those biographies aren't embroidered a bit. Regardless, the IP has the obligation to provide a reliable source, not simply revert without so much as an edit summary. --Drmargi (talk) 06:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, just a note to let you know that 74.166.156.250 is again editing the above. Denisarona (talk) 13:49, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Oh, goodie. I see you've already had to tag his talk page. His standard retort is to accuse you of not watching the show. I have to watch the current episode, then will respond to his latest edits. --Drmargi (talk) 15:46, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

RE:CSI

Surely correct, up-to-date information is much more important than a nicely formatted table? I understand your point, and yes it may be a little early, but it makes much more sense to update it when the whole cast is confirmed (providing the sources are reliable), rather than wait until the season begins to air. It's likely the entire cast will be confirmed within the next few weeks/months. This is usually the case. Let me know what you think, cheers -- Jenx222 (talk) 21:32, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Touch renewal 'unofficial' or 'official'

Just for info, there was actually an unofficial announcement, if you can call it that, by Fox, I read it in the online tv news websites. They revealed which shows were being cancelled, of which Touch wasn't one, and they said there would be an official announcement of renewal a few days after that. So the press printed that Touch had been unofficially renewed. This is just for your info if you get any comeback from whoever edited the page. RKDia (talk) 13:56, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Bulleting

It's as simple as this: if there are periods, no bullets; if there are bullets, no periods. It's one way or the other. Commonality doesn't matter if it's wrong. And since the names are bold, it certainly does not make it any more "hard to read." But, from past experience, it seems you don't really care about proper English structure, so I'm sure it won't do any good to discuss this with you. --Musdan77 (talk) 16:37, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

See [8] and read down to the section on bulleted and numbered lists. Or you may prefer [9] -- see the section on lists of complete sentences. Then see WP:CIVIL. --Drmargi (talk) 22:51, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't change what I said. And remember to practice what you preach. --Musdan77 (talk) 00:44, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Whitechapel question

Hi again. I am wondering if you have any insight into the question that I posted here Talk:Whitechapel (TV series). I have the UK DVDs so I don't know if the US ones also have the BBC logos on them when the DVD loads. I found this curious. If you haven't read anything about it please don't worry about it. Thanks for your time. MarnetteD | Talk 14:33, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for replying at the talk page. I remember reading this book [10] when it came out. I found the theory plausible. Now I can't remember if Ed Buchan mentioned it in the show so I may have to go back and watch season one again. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 16:09, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Saying Hello DrMargi....I am back (at least a little)

I wanted to say hello, since I haven't been around at all from my old work account (IP address only) or under my screen name. I see you are still busy trying to keep Wikipedia accurate and not just a fan page - and must say I am impressed by your work as always. To make a long story short, I lost everything in 2011...my husband (succumbed to his multiple myeloma), as well as my house to foreclosure and my job due to downsizing. Not to dump on you, but just giving you an update as to where I disappeared to. I am doing better...but it's still one day at a time.

I hope to be more active here again, and wanted to tell you that contributors such as yourself, along with AussieLegend and many other diligent people have made me want to return.

I hope you are well, and I always look to you to remind me it is possible to make corrections and make pages better without anger or (even wrongly perceived) malice (I believe I have mentioned my Irish temper <smile>). Take care, good hearted lady. Hope to chat more with you soon.

Cheers, Trista Triste Tierra (talk) 08:59, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back! Keep battling and find an outlet here. It's good for the psyche and the project. And if the temper gets you -- vent here. I'm thinking about you! --Drmargi (talk) 20:20, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

A little WP:OR for your perusal

As someone who has seen Morse this [11] might be of interest to you. I created this several years ago when the last of the 33 eps made it to DVD. If you or any of your frineds can find Colin in any of the three eps that I didn't please let me know. I also found him in the pilot for Lewis - though it was difficult but the making of DVD confirmed my guess - and spotted him in one or two eps of the first season but I don't think he has been in any of the subsequent seasons. Cheers and happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 15:13, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

One other thing. According to this [12] it looks like the 3rd season of Wallander is going to be released on DVD before it airs on TV. I wonder why that is. MarnetteD | Talk 15:13, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
I saw that about Wallander -- what's the thinking there I wonder? As for CD in the last Morse episodes, I know where he is in one of them, but I'm not sure whether it's the Remorseful Day or not. He's in a wheelchair, as part of a tour group in one, and he's in the Chapter Bar in the Randolph Hotel in one. That might be the pilot of Lewis. I know the waitress in a bar scene in RD was the bar's very well-known waitress, and told us all tales of them filming over the years -- she's one of those walking keepers of oral history some places have. The production is well-loved in Oxford, all in all. We were in Oxford the summer RD was broadcast in the UK (we saw it that fall), and it was the talk of Oxford. We took an Inspector Morse walking tour, went out to the Trout pub with a friend, and bought a signed copy of RD at Waterstone's. I even bought a die-cast model of Morse's car, which I adore. Oh, and we stayed in the Randolph. We had to do that. We didn't get to stay in the room from the Wolvercote Tongue, which is sold out several years in advance, but we did get to see it. How sad am I? It was such fun. --Drmargi (talk) 16:53, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Just saw the list you did -- amazing work; now, how to get it in here. Sorry, getting a cold and mis-read your earlier; I thought you said last three episodes, so never mind the duplication. I thought the wheelchair scene was in RD, because he uses a wheelchair much of the time now, but wasn't entirely sure I could trust my memory. I believe he said in an interview that there are a couple where he wasn't available to appear, or there wasn't a way to work him in. The tradition was generally to have him in a pub scene, although in didn't find him in all that many. I've got to go read that list more carefully now! --Drmargi (talk) 16:59, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I am happily jealous of your trip to Oxford. I bought the Corgi model several years ago - I also got a delightful model of Basil and Sybil Fawlty's car. It includes a model of Basil holding the tree branch just before he gives the car a "damn good thrashing" as seen in "Gourmet Night". Both models are in my bookcase right next to my computer :-) On another note I just received my DVDs for White Heat (TV series) (Juliet Stevenson is one of my all time crushes) and it comes packaged as an ITV product as shown on the BBC! Just the opposite of our Whitechapel situation. In this day and age of tight money this cross financing may be going on more than I have been aware of. That is fine with me since it allows me to enjoy such wonderful performances and writing. I hope that you got to feeling better soon and that the cold does not mess up your Memorial Day weekend. MarnetteD | Talk 18:28, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Oh No! Is another good thing going to get run into the ground?

Hi again. I've seen a few commercials for this Elementary (TV series) and, naturally, you are up on things and have already been editing the article. CBS may be claiming that they are not going to "infringe" on the wonderful creation by Moffat, but from the looks of the pic they already have since he is wearing the scarf in the exact same way that Benedict does. What is the over/under on how long it will last? The US Prime Suspect didn't make it to the end of the season. Hope you are feeling better and enjoy the rest of your weekend. MarnetteD | Talk 19:42, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Initial chatter is good, and it's got a prime slot behind Person of Interest, but I have my doubts. Joan Watson smacks of gimmicky tokenism, and no matter how good Johnny Lee Miller may be as Sherlock (and he's the only thing in the clips I've seen that looks good), I'm not sold on the Watson, character or actress. I'm not expecting much and definitely not holding my breath. --Drmargi (talk) 20:46, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Lewis update

Hi again. I've been spending the weekend with recent season of Lewis and - lo and behold - in the "Generation of Vipers" episode, at the 9 minute and 10 second mark, there is Colin Dexter talking to the character played by Don Warrington. I think I mentioned that - after the 1st or second series - I thought he wasn't doing these cameos anymore but this proves I was wrong. I guess that means that I will have to go back through the episodes one day and complete a list to match the one I did for Morse. Its funny I still enjoy trying to guess the killer but I've been with these characters so long now that it is almost more fun to spend 6 hours with them each year and catch up with where they are with their lives now. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 18:16, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

I thought I'd seen him in one or two, maybe one a season, but read something about him not doing them as well. He's not well at all, but I'm so glad to see he has kept doing them. BTW, did you see they commissioned four new episodes of Endeavour? I'm not surprised, but I am pleased. --Drmargi (talk) 18:34, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
That gives me one more thing to look forward to and now you'll have to make time to rewatch the episode and see the treat at the end. Hmmm I wonder if they'll have a case where a mom (sorry I mean mum) and dad will be pushing a pram up the street and they say "Robbie smile for the nice policeman" :-) MarnetteD | Talk 20:33, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Oh, definitely. I'm finishing up the last work before I go to my summer schedule, and rewatching my way through Poirot via Netflix as I do. Lewis is in my queue, and I must see if they have Morse as well. Planning a veg-out evening with Endeavour soon! --Drmargi (talk) 16:14, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Article splitting

Arrrrghh! What are these people thinking?[13] What is the infatuation they have with making things harder for readers? --AussieLegend (talk) 12:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Oh, gawd! I think they do it because they can, and that thinking isn't part of the equation. It's like a little switch flips in their heads that says "season over, create seasonal article..." (said like Robbie the Robot.) Content beyond a cast list and the episode summaries never enters their minds. I'm in a minor squabble with some editor or another (to whom I represent the anti-Christ, the way he carries on here and there) because I'm opposing a split of Person of Interest's first season. Never mind content, never mind the guideline is roughly 80 episodes (i.e. three seasons) before a split; he's gotten away with it elsewhere, so that's enough reason to continue getting away with it. Give me strength! --Drmargi (talk) 17:49, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
I just had a look at Talk:List of Person of Interest episodes and at least one of the editors there has gotten things very wrong.[14] WP:SIZERULE refers to the amount of readable prose, not the size of the page. The page is 46kB but, strictly speaking, there are only 718 bytes of readable prose, as readable prose doesn't include table content. Using a very loose definition of readable prose there is still only 27.1kB of prose, well below WP:SIZERULE's "Length alone does not justify division" 40kB boundary. --AussieLegend (talk) 18:07, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
That was my point as well -- even if the article makes the length limit, which as you say, it didn't, there was no new content in the split article. The editor had lifted most of what was there from the main article, and added a few tidbits I think he may have grabbed (spelled plagiarized) from the CBS program website. Mind, there's a lot to write about with that show (have you gotten it yet?) and would not be opposed to a substantive season article, but this was just splitting for splitting's sake, as is readily apparent from the "my other articles are OK!" and "can we split now?" responses. Press them with the question why, and they fall apart. I'm always glad we've kept Castle together; it's such a fangirl/fancruft magnet as it is. The seasonal articles would be a nightmare! --Drmargi (talk) 18:17, 20 June 2012 (UTC) (ETA: if you grab a minute and the spirit moves, would you explain how SIZERULE works to them? You have a better grasp of the terminology than I do. Grazie!!)

Many smiling thanks

Thanks for your note. Even though I had many years of awareness of the spelling differences having an automatic spell check on my computer reinforced my learning. I get lots of red lines under words that do not need changing :-) I am seeing ads on BBC America for this upcoming series Copper (TV series). Looks interesting and its creators have a good track record so it might be worth watching. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks again!! MarnetteD | Talk 21:43, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

daniel day lewis is half english and half irish That's Irish-english but his wikipedia page states him as english But he himself said that he is equally irish http://kathyddl.tripod.com/dannyboy.htm search irish in that page he said whatever part of his is irish he is proud of that. so please please change him to Irish-english please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.163.222.37 (talk) 16:15, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

First of all, let's find a reliable source before we go off half-cocked. A fan site such as you've sourced isn't reliable. I do know DDL carries an Irish passport and has kept a home in Ireland for some years. He also identifies Irish, and I believe his father might have been born in Ireland. If and only if we can find a reliable source that says that, I'd be willing to support an edit like this. In the meantime, you need to read WP:RS and WP:CANVASS so you understand how both work, then begin writing like an adult (using proper capitalization and punctuation) not like you're sending text messages if you want to be taken seriously. I'm curious why you approached me; who are you? --Drmargi (talk) 17:00, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
OK, I've checked the talk page and made an edit I think is appropriate. I've also commented on the talk page. --Drmargi (talk) 17:31, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Drmargi, in answer to your question, I'm unsure whether WP:TROUBLES applies. If the warring on Daniel Day-Lewis's article continues, you might ask User:Qwyrxian for suggestions, since he's an admin who has edited the article. He may know what policies are relevant. JonC was under a topic ban from Troubles articles which has now expired. Since Day-Lewis gave an extensive interview about his nationality (which is cited) there should not be any dispute about the facts of the case. It's only a question of what words Wikipedia should use to describe his nationality. An WP:RFC is one option. EdJohnston (talk) 03:43, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Ed. That helps a lot. I'm not terribly invested in this, but was concerned about what felt like a rather nationalistic position on JonC's part and didn't want to wander into the Troubles maelstrom. I've also researched Day-Lewis, and found a fairly recent interview where he talks about his identity as an Irishman, but need to read it carefully before pulling it into the article. I noticed Qwyrxian was an admin after contacting you, so I'll work with him going forward. For the moment, things seem to have calmed down, and hopefully we can come to some sort of consensus. --Drmargi (talk) 03:53, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I saw your last edit revert and that would be considered vandalism. Do not remove Ion Television or change the notes on the schedule! 68.44.51.49 (talk) 12:45, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Nonsense. Nothing I did was remotely vandalism; I simply reverted an unexplained series of edits that included removal of important information about one series, the addition of controversial information (regarding Ion, see the talk page) and a heading that does not belong in the lead. If you were to use edit summaries, you wouldn't have a problem. And I would be very, very careful about accusing other editors of vandalism simply because they revert your edits. See WP:AGF --Drmargi (talk) 12:48, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
I apologize for accusing you of vandalism. Nevertheless, I reverted your editing with a summary. 68.44.51.49 (talk) 12:51, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
You need to calm down, and discuss the edits on the talk page. Once an edit is reverted, per WP:BRD, you don't revert again but rather discuss. Additions of scheduled programming on Ion has already been controversial, making it more important to discuss, continue reverting. That's potentially edit warring. Likewise, removing accurate information about Unforgettable to add hidden supposition is inappropriate, per WP:OR. --Drmargi (talk) 12:54, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
There was a fight about this last year, too. The user who decided this said that the network was a major network and Flashpoint was added to the schedule, so I recommend we add it. If you want me to start a talk about, I would be happy to do that, but I wish to have Ion Television on the schedule. 68.44.51.49 (talk) 13:00, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't see a fight. I see a discussion that needs to be started, which you should have done when you were reverted the first time. No one editor "decides" anything; we come to consensus as to what happens. I have no specific objections to Ion being included if there's a good reason but others have objected, and trying to force an edit through hidden notes and aggressive edit summaries won't achieve that. That's what the talk page is for. It appears you need to take some time to read WP:EDIT and WP:CONSENSUS before you do much more editing. Given you've now removed the label for the fourth time, I've added a warning regarding disruptive editing to your talk page. --Drmargi (talk) 13:04, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Rizzoli & Isles season pages

Tvlover96 (talk · contribs) created them again (Rizzoli & Isles (season 1), Rizzoli & Isles (season 2) & Rizzoli & Isles (season 3)), thought I'd let you know. QuasyBoy (talk) 18:50, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

What is with these people who revert against consensus because the HAVE TO have these pointless, content-sparce season articles? It's like fansite heaven; there's utterly nothing there aside from bigger ratings tables (like anyone knows what they're reading) and longer cast lists. I redirected them again, and what a mess I found; TVlover96 has created parallel episode lists for S2 and S3, and there's all manner of errors in the splits, but no new content of any substance. That alone was enough reason to redirect. --Drmargi (talk) 19:51, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
I couldn't agree more, the episode summaries aren't even long enough and there is little to content about the actual season in particular to differentiate from the main series article. Most of these season articles are created just for the sake of it. QuasyBoy (talk) 21:11, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Agreed 110%. There are two cadres of editors who make me nuts; the ones who do the shows with elimination table solely for the sake of creating elaborate, highly colored tables, and the ones who split articles just because they can. WP:SPLITTING and WP:SIZERULE just don't enter into their thinking. AussieLegend and I are having a bitchfest about it on his talk page at the moment, which helps, as does moaning to you! --Drmargi (talk) 21:24, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Thought I'd leave a little heads up for you both. Back in 2010 we dealt with a persistent editor who was also used more than one account. This was one of their incarnations Rizzoli Isles (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and this Langston Bonasera (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was another. While I haven't had time to go into the edits of the Tvlover96 I do see their interest in the some of the same articles. The newness of their account might mean they are an overenthusiastic newbie or they mught be a returning problem. Thus, I thought I would let you know about this past experience in case it might help. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 21:30, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Hey, babe! Thanks for the heads up. I remember that issue peripherally and RizzoliIsles vividly, and thought something seemed familiar about TVLover. I'll go do some homework; SPI may be around the corner. We've also go twin IP's editing a lot of these TV articles (see discussion above) who have issues with understanding their are policies and principles of teamwork we all (well, most of us) abide by. --Drmargi (talk) 21:53, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! --Drmargi (talk) 01:29, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Getting back to the article, what's the general feeling about the massive ratings tables that were just added? I can't see the point; few list articles have them, and the ratings are of limited interest once a season ends. Frankly, I doubt more than one reader in a thousand even knows how to interpret them. They really cross into fancruft to my way of thinking, and I'd like to get rid of them in favor of the more usual listing of viewer numbers by episode. --Drmargi (talk) 21:14, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Quirk of the language

I stumbled on this US/UK series Episodes while trying to avoid the oppressive heat this weekend. The fact that it exists has lead to WikiP having an article titled List of Episodes episodes. The bureaucrats at the Department of Redundancy Department are completely befuddled as how to deal with this :-) On another note, when someone says something like "I have two twin daughters upstairs" does that mean they have four girls? I know that my English can be atrocious as a) I'm a yank and b) my schooling was in the era that proper usage was phased out of the curriculum (and then USA Today came along and made things worse) but this has always sounded weird to me. Thanks ahead of time for correcting my notions and have a nice week. MarnetteD | Talk 04:18, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

LOL! I just finished Endeavour, and am a puddle. Eleven years, and I still miss Morse. The look in the mirror was great, but when the MUSIC started, I really welled up. Didn't expect that, and I watched The Remorseful Day with a box of kleenex on the coffee table.
Will go take a peek at Episodes episodes and see what has DoRD (so Pythonesque!) befuddled. And he rest. Manana. Sniff! --Drmargi (talk) 06:21, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
That is special - you had the exact much the same reaction to the scene that I did. Fading in the Morse music (especially after I had gotten used to the softer themes used in Lewis) while giving us Thaw's eyes was too special. It is the simplicity of the wording that really cracks me up and brings DoRD into play. I'm soooo glad that you got to see that Endeavour moment! I don't know that Episodes is anywhere close to that level of enjoyment. I kinda felt like Gevais's Extras had moved to LA. But anything with Tamsin Grieg is worth seeing and she shines in this series. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 08:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Have finally recovered. I tried to sit down and write a bit yesterday, but the infernal server problems nixed that. I'm off to the office today, but will have more to say soon. One question on Episodes -- do you know the back story behind the show? --Drmargi (talk) 15:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
If you mean storyline - Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan play a married couple who have written a highly successful Britcom Lyman’s Boys. A Hollywood studio buys the rights to it and they move to L.A. and, as you might expect, their work gets changed beyond all recognition. On the other hand if you mean background to how it got made I don't have any info on that. I didn't even know about it until I saw a clip of it when Matt Leblanc was on The Graham Norton Show. I got to watch the whole first season and eps 1 and 2 of the second through my OnDemand menu on my cable TV. You might give the 1st few eps a try and if you don't like it just pass on the rest. One striking thing is that it is mostly filmed in the UK. They use a ton of green screen to make it look like L.A. but you have to look close to see the trickery. Enjoy your 4th of!! Wikitizing me

ok how would this work? because i aint sure how it can be done, certainly if you look at List of House episodes the lead, overview and dvd section written parts where done mostly by me but other editors made the english grammar correct, but im not sure in bigger thing ie everything i do how e could possible make it work so me and the editor helping dnt get into trouble. but i am certainly willing to try so i can be a better editor and knowledge i have can be put onto wikipedia in wikipedia formatAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 21:03, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Why don't you drop a message here when you have something you think needs copy-editing and I'll go take a look. House looks OK now because editors have been over it. My only worry is that you're in the UK, and I'm on the west coast of the US, so the time difference is eight hours, which might be an issue. But it's worth at least trying something like this to see if it helps.
What about your talk page edits? Are you OK with my editing those? I could leave a small note such as ed. by Drmargi per AC What do you think? --Drmargi (talk) 15:53, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

yeah i have no problem with you editing the talk pages might make it easier for people to understand after you edit i can check it says what i am trying to convey similar how i write letters with my wife i write what i want to say and she basically rewrites it but she aint willing to do that for me here :(, i think what might be best is i set a page under my user page that will have a disclaimer explain g i have gave you permission to edit my talk page comments and put a link to the reversion version showing i made it, and make another user pages for making edits i want to make and i link the article so you know what one i am planning to edit as i might be doing a lot of them, i will quote the bit i want to edit using probably "text currently" and put the text i want to replace it with 'new text', if it is a template type edit i will using < pre > < /pre > or similar to highlight the before and after code. if the talk page edit does not convey what i am trying to say i will then try explain what i mean possible in the same user page part so you can then get idea what i am meaning and hopefully convey it properly, i think i might make a template say possible ((usertalk)) which you can use in edit summaries when editing my talk page that will basically say something like Permission to edit talk page by Andrewcrawford and have it link to the page i make to show the permission is there, hopefully you could also fix paragraph breaks so comment like this aint huge and hard to follow unless you are me let me know what you think of this as i rather make sure we are both covered so it clear i agree to all this and your doign it for the better of wikipediaAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 16:52, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

i need to make a rfc for the on going dispute i and many other editors are in, so this be the best thing to start with as i want it to be as good as possible to convey the problem and try and get a good response and hopefully a cones-us rather than needing to go to formal mediationAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 18:32, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Let's start there. Why don't you send me a draft of the RfC to edit before you post it? --Drmargi (talk) 19:08, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Color for Person of Interest season 2

Its looks unorthodox to have the same exact color for both season 1 and season 2, That's hardly ever down on Wikipedia these days, different colors are used for each season. I thought I would use the yellow color to signify the yellow square for the "person of interest" on the show (kind of corny, right). Plus it was used for a long time for season 1 until you changed it. Which I don't have a problem with you doing that because gray is the most used color for the show and is used for the season 1 DVD case. Someone else will mostly likely disagree with you anyway, but whatever floats your boat, its not that big a deal. QuasyBoy (talk) 20:37, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

The greys are different; I was careful about that. I found the one yellow you used too bright and a bit hard to read through, which is why I changed it the first time. I didn't suggest the softer yellow they use in the show, so I didn't make the connection. Why don't we meet in the middle and find a less vivid yellow? --Drmargi (talk) 20:43, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I just put a less vivid yellow into the (hidden) season two overview table. When you get a minute, unhide it, preview it, and see what you think. The two look good together, and might work a bit better. --Drmargi (talk) 20:46, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Oops, It is a different gray, my bad. Forget everything I said. :P QuasyBoy (talk) 20:49, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Go look at the yellow I found and see what you think. I rather like the idea of using it, just a less vivid version. --Drmargi (talk) 20:54, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Its cool, go ahead and use it. :) QuasyBoy (talk) 21:14, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
MUCH better! It looks a lot like the show's yellow now, and it's a touch easier on the eyes. Compromise without ANI, drahma or incivility. What a concept!! --Drmargi (talk) 21:18, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: "The Newsroom" deletions

Wiki editor Drmargi with cause deleted my admittedly insufficiently documented comments on the similarities between Adam Sorkin's 2012 "The Newsroom" and the BBC's 2011 "The Hour." But she then proceeded to weigh in with her opinion that there was no similarity between the two series aside from both taking place in newsrooms.

A thoughtful comparison of the American miniseries with the BBC miniseries might find that in the two dramas: 1) both are dominated by strong female newsroom directors, 2) both deal with political crises, 3) both stories depict the struggle between those in the newsroom who interpret the news and those in higher authority who are inclined to interfere.

Stay tuned for supporting documentation of this comparison between the two shows. Neyzenhasan (talk) 21:24, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Ping - You will want to read WP:OR and WP:SYNTH as your post here is the classic description of both of those. Your ideas are perfect for a blog or chat room but they do not fit Wiki guidelines for inclusion in either article. BTW both shows are serials not miniseries. MarnetteD | Talk 21:31, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Actually, I removed your edit twice. The first time it was entirely unsourced, and represented nothing more than your own opinion. The second time, you source your statement with the answer to a question following a blog posting on the Washington Post website. You use it to substantiate your edit, when the cited editor, who is responding to a question about parallels between the two, said, "You mean in that both shows are about a "new" news program being launched? The comparison seems to sort of end there, unless I'm mis-remembering "The Hour."..." How you go from there to the statement you made in the article is beyond me. As I noted in the second edit summary, you entirely misrepresent what the source says; an individual WP reader's comment on similarities does not rise to the level of a reliable source. Please review the policies Marnette describes as well as reliable sources and you'll find I'm on solid ground in deleting your edit. You also should know that The Hour was broadcast here on BBC America, which has a small market share, some time after it was in the UK, and long after The Newsroom would have been in development, which serves to weaken your arguments.
On a related issue, you need to consider how much of what you see as parallels may simply be plotting devices designed to accomplish specific aims (i.e. the relationship between talent and producer) and how much is simply coincidence (political crises being meat and potatoes to journalists). Interfering highers up are a simple, and realistic, tool designed to create tension and conflict in the story. You also have to consider that The Hour is not terribly original either, and remember that it's a British program that the American creator may not have seen. Case in point: when Leverage started on US television in 2007, a cadre of people cried that it was a "rip-off" of the BBC's Hustle. And there were a few broad parallels. However, what they failed to consider was that Hustle wasn't successful on US TV, and that none of the producers had seen it; in fact, they were quite open about the two American shows that did influence their show. Later, someone here claimed the inspiration for Leverage was an Argentinian TV show that has never been broadcast in the US! My point? Just because you think you see parallels, it doesn't mean one show is related to, much less inspired by, the other, or that the parallels are of any significance, much less notable enough for inclusion here. Nothing's all that original in TV, and television shows about journalism aren't new, particularly on US TV. In actuality, most of the critical commentary about The Newsroom has been the use of repetitive plotting and narrative devices among it, The West Wing and The American President, all Aaron Sorkin productions. The Hour simply isn't on much of anyone's radar. --Drmargi (talk) 23:03, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

The next time you remove the final ratings from the two-hour pilot episode of "Red Widow", I will report you to the Wikipedia administrators.

The next time you remove the final ratings from the two-hour pilot episode of Red Widow like that, I will report you to the Wikipedia administrators. You understand me? AdamDeanHall (talk) 21:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

I understand that you're declaring ownership of an article, and that by reverting unilaterally you've violated WP:BRD. You need to calm down, assume good faith and remember to be civil at all times. The ratings for the two hours were reported separately, and are more accurate, as well as meaningful than the aggregate ratings. You need to DISCUSS if you disagree, not give other editors orders and make threats, particularly when you're inaccurate. Hour #1 was the pilot. Hour #2 was "The Contact", a separate episode. That is well documented at all the standard reliable media sites as well as from ABC. --Drmargi (talk) 23:25, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:List of Castle episodes

Any thoughts on the current discussion? I was waiting for you before commenting. --AussieLegend () 08:33, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry! I've been flitting in and out. There's nothing there that isn't in the current article, and the cast table is silly. I've seen it in other articles and really dislike it. I'll go weigh in soon. --Drmargi (talk) 14:35, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

What's the deal with vampires?

First we had Akim56 at List of Hart of Dixie episodes trying to make it look like List of My Babysitter's a Vampire episodes, and now we have Castlerocks14 at List of Castle episodes trying to make it into List of The Vampire Diaries episodes,[15] which is suffering its own persistent vandalism. Since when did Wikipedia editors have to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer? --AussieLegend () 11:57, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I know! It just goes to show you how many of these articles are dominated by adolescents on a vampire kick with the mindset of lemmings and no critical thinking skills. They're going to keep pushing this one and Person of Interest splits, and those damned vampire TV articles are the worst possible models for how to do them. Know what I dislike most? The cast table that include the time the cast was main cast or recurring. All the CSI season article have them, and they've got to go. They're a table in search of content, nothing more. Like the articles themselves. I swear most of them are an excuse to make the articles pretty colors and put up a picture of the DVD covers (CSI case in point again: the DVD covers are all for the UK DVD's. What's up with that?) No one thinks. They just do because someone else before them did, and vampires are as good a model as any.
Did you see the debacle on the article for Elementary (TV series)? I imagine you're at least passingly familiar with the show: it's a modern adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes story with Holmes having moved to New York. It's a damned sight better than it sounds because they cast Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes, and he's fabulous. Rather than using the better known Lastrade character as Holmes' police contact in favor of another cop based on Conan Doyle's character Tobias Gregson. The show renamed the character Thomas Gregson after the pilot, but the media from the network upfronts listed him as Tobias Gregson pre-clearances (when names and other details that can be linked to real people are approved.) Well, long story short, the article now lists him as Tobias rather than Thomas, which has subsequently been used on-air and acknowledged as his real name by the writers and the network, because, according to a bunch of nimrods on the RS board who've never watched the show, the only reliable source for his name are a handful of newspaper articles, one from New Zealand, that his name is Tobias. It's the most ridiculous thing I've seen on Wikipedia in a long time.
And don't get me started on that Amy's Baking Company nonsense. --Drmargi (talk) 12:35, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Happy Halloween

Just wanted to wish you a spooktacular evening. I sent you a Jacquie Lawson ecard but I don't know when you will have a chance to see it. Good news! Ripper Street started its second season this week. Hopefully BBCA will air it sooner rather than later. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 19:55, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

And a Happy Halloween to you, too! I'm in San Diego, and the hotel staff are all in costumes. Good fun! I saw a date for Ripper Street; I'm thinking December might be right. I'll check. --Drmargi (talk) 21:54, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Forgot to mention new episode of Whitechapel have also aired recently in the UK. I also put in my order for the last set of Poirot films. I hope that you aren't staying in room 237 at your hotel. OtOH it might be a wild wingding of a party tonight. OOOOoooOOOOOoo. MarnetteD | Talk 23:54, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Pal o mine bought the DVDs and said episode one is veeeeeeery good. And hotel room number is nothing like 237, thankfully. Goo Elementary tonight; lots of character development. --Drmargi (talk) 05:58, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Elementary

How is it possibly fair to keep Ifans? They are both in 3 episodes, and since there was zero response on the talk, something needs to be done. Rusted AutoParts 16:11, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Fairness has nothing to do with it. It's a simple matter of sourcing. Ifans was hired by the show to recur as Mycroft, and publicized accordingly from the beginning; the source for that is nothing less than a network press release. Dormer was hired for a two-episode single story arc which included a very brief appearance at the end of the episode prior, and was never publicized otherwise. That's materially different. At some time in the future, if and when Dormer returns, we've got no issue that she's a recurring character. Ifans has already returned once, and will do so again, so between the source and the pattern of his appearances, your removal of his character as recurring is unjustified, and becoming disruptive. Stop trying to force the edit and be patient. You'll live longer. --Drmargi (talk) 16:22, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

The Newsroom x 2

I stopped by to leave a note about how prescient Aaron was in season two about what CBS was already taking part in. Then as I started typing Sam Waterston showed up on The Colbert Report as Charlie Skinner to lambast the situation. It is wonderful and it'll probably show up online tomorrow. Best Wishes and less the two weeks to go!! MarnetteD | Talk 05:42, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

I've got to see that!!!! I'll never make it two more weeks between what's going on on POI, anticipating Major Crimes and anticipating DOCTOR WHO!! --Drmargi (talk) 08:03, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Start time

Hi again. Just saw the first BBCA ad with clips from the special - one was a line now used in all three anniversary specials. Also official start time was announced. It gets going at 11:50 am your time. I haven't seen a time for An Adventure in Space and Time yet but I will be keeping my eye peeled. MarnetteD | Talk 20:19, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

"Adventure" is going to air Fri the 22nd at 6pm repeated at 8 your time. It probably will be in the OnDemand menu and will certainly repeat later on. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 06:22, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
I saw that x2. We get AATS the day after the UK, which makes sense, rather than competing with the heavy Thursday night programming. I've had the time set aside for the episode for a couple weeks. I was toying with going to see it in a theatre, but can't abide the idea of trying to pay attention over the fans. I'd rather make a cup of tea and watch it on me own 42" plasma. --Drmargi (talk) 08:05, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
I agree 100%. Maybe when I was in my 20s but I don't do crowds well at all anymore. At home without anyone talking and messing up my viewing pleasure is the way to go. Plenty of old episodes all next week on BBCA but I lean towards the DVDs since I don;t have to put up with commercials. Tick tick tick - it is getting closer. MarnetteD | Talk 17:01, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

8 days left

OK there are undoubtedly 1000s if not millions of tributes like this out there but I enjoyed this one and wanted to share it with you. MarnetteD | Talk 03:20, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

I thought I would let you know that Gareth Griffith-Jones recommends the Brian Cox the "Science of Dr Who" that airs Monday on BBCA. Also, the clips they've shown of "An Adventure in Space and Time" are excellent. I wonder, if it is well received, whether they might continue with episodes for Pat and Jon. Mark Gatiss certainly has a love for the show along with being a talented writer that he could do it if they asked him. One week, two hours and 17 minutes to go!! MarnetteD | Talk 17:34, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
I sat the other night going through the guide for a week's worth of programming, setting record commands for all the goodies. I've heard good advance buzz on AAST, too. I imagine they're grooming him to take over for Steven Moffat, don't you think? The Brian Cox thing looks like a real hoot. I'm sure you've seen the little channel ID interruptions they've done -- there area fair few of them on YouTube. So, here we go! Happy Doctor Who anniversary week! --Drmargi (talk) 08:00, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Did you notice?

Just finished the Brian Cox Dr Who science special. The scenes in the TARDIS with Matt were tooo fun. Did you notice that Charles Dance was in the audience? The camera caught him three times - the easiest one to catch is just after Cox mentions spaghettification and we see him laughing with the rest of the audience. The special is a wonderful way to keep the celebrations going. MarnetteD | Talk 04:15, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

I did! They caught him on camera a couple times. I also saw a couple other folks, whose names I forget. Sigh... Such fun, both shows. --Drmargi (talk) 07:12, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
According to Gareth Dance was onstage at one point so it looks like we might have seen an edited version :( The full version might be OnDemand or online. MarnetteD | Talk 14:53, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the address update! Thought I would let you and your friend know about this special price. It lasts through Friday and is quite the deal. My PBS station has only shown eps thru season 3 so I am looking forward to the ones I've not seen. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 20:22, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! I'll clue her in. The DVD Santa will be shopping on Black Friday, but this might require a bit of advance shopping! --Drmargi (talk) 04:32, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
You are welcome. Of course, to see all of Clune's performances as Doc M you need to see this film Saving Grace (2000 film) and I noticed that season 6 is coming out on DVD on Dec 10th. I sent an email to the address you gave me but it contains spoilers about tonight's POI so I warned you about that in my subject line. Snow is in the forecast here so I might be bundling up for the Doctorpalooza. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 05:31, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Argghh

You are usually ahead of me in finding online stuff so you may have already seen this. So far I can only find a site that plays it in the UK but not here. BBCA hasn't played these before so I don't know when we will get to see it - although while typing this I think they did put a couple of them in the OnDemand menu so I will have to go and check that. If I have to wait until the DVD comes out at least it won't be too long as it comes out in early Dec. I think it is wonderful of Moffat to give McGann another moment in the limelight (HD limelight at that) :-) MarnetteD | Talk 16:59, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Search Night of the Doctor on YouTube and you'll find it. It's well worth seeing, and sets up the 50th anniversary episode quite nicely. Hopefully the RT article didn't give the surprise that's in it away. --Drmargi (talk) 18:36, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Found it! Thanks for the info. It is well done and I am glad that I got to see it before the 23rd. I am not sure if we could amp up the excitement anymore. I feel like a six year old anticipating Christmas morning. But, I guess that is what time travel is all about. HeeHee. Thanks to Moffat and to Drmargi!! MarnetteD | Talk 20:26, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Yay, us! I just watched it on my big monitor at work. Lovely. So, who is the War Doctor? A new nine, 8-/12, a doctor outside the line of progression, or what?? And bravo to Moff for finding a role for Paul McGann to play in the celebration. --Drmargi (talk) 01:51, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
Well, of course all will be revealed a week from Saturday. Here are a few things to consider. As far as the new series goes in "The Christmas Invasion" the Doctors regenerative energy lasts beyond the moment of the body change and he fashions himself a new hand. In that episode he states that this ability lasts a few hours (or days I can't remember which at the moment) but in "The Angels Take Manhattan" the Doctor mends River's broken wrist with that same energy and this is years after his last change. We also have the 10th Dr's semi-regeneration in "Journey's End" that wound up creating a second (sort of) 10th Dr (I remember seeing David on Graham Norton where he jokingly said that meant he was the 10th AND 11th Dr) although this one was not a full Time Lord. So the War Dr may have something to do with that. In the classic series there were several oddities both before and after regeneration became codified. In Planet of the Spiders the future incarnation of K'anpo is Cho-Je who is present through the entire story. Cho-Je also helps "push things along" with the third Doctor's regeneration. In Logopolis The Watcher is also present for the whole story and as Nyssa says "He was the Doctor all the time." His ghostly form helps the broken body of the 4th Dr turn into the 5th. On a side note Tom Baker lies on the ground in such a way that his legs make an reversed 4 shape. I have always wondered if he did that on purpose or if it is a coincidence. We also have the Valyard who is an "amalgamation of the Dr's dark side somewhere between his twelfth and final incarnation." Also, don't forget that the Time Lords revived the Master during the Time War and he wound up at the end of the Universe. So Moffat has a number of past events to draw on but it is just as likely that he will come up with something entirely new to explain things. I did see a post that Moffat has stated that Chris is still the 9th Dr and Hurt's Dr will not be changing the that. Just one more thing to keep us all excited. Did you know that "Melody Malone" has written "The Angel' Kiss" which is a prequel to the book used in "The Angels Take Manhattan" and that you can get it as an e-book? Too fun. Well this note got longer than I meant it to be so I'll stop now. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 04:02, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

You are such a kick sometimes. I know next to nothing of the "old" Doctor period, so I have little to draw on as far as history is concerned, and know just what I've read about the Valeyard. But he makes the most sense to me of any of the theories I've heard, aside from the issue of position in the line of regeneration. I think I'll just wait for it all to happen. There's another mini-episode due out soon, I understand. Remind me to tell you about the student with the Van Gogh Pandorica t-shirt. Must sleep now. --Drmargi (talk) 08:03, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

I've seen that T-shirt in a couple catalogs. I think that they also have it as a bath towel. It is great that one of your students proudly sported that gem. Always gives me pause for thought when I realize how many fans today weren't even alive when the 20th anniversary (and my trip to the big Chicago convention took place) happened. Thnx for cluing me in on another minisode. I wonder if it will stir the wiki talk page pot as much as "Night of..." did :-) MarnetteD | Talk 18:46, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Had a thought while running errands. I think it was Oscar Wilde who said "watching one Dr Who story is the beginning of a life long romance." Wilde changed it a bit when he used it in An Ideal Husband :-)
This brings up the fact that the Dr and Oscar haven't (yet) crossed paths. If they do I kinda hope that Richard Curtis writes the episode since his Van Gogh episode is one of the best. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 21:08, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
HILARIOUS!! Have you seen the "Happy Birthday Doctor Who" blurbs they've been doing. Love it -- lots of SciFi folks, like EJO and Nathan Fillion. As for kid with shirt; he came into class last week with the t-shirt on and button up over it. I asked him to hold his button-up (which was unbuttoned) open a bit more. He did and said, "Doctor Who." I replied, "The Pandorica Opens!" He grinned. He told me that he'd settled on my program for his major when he saw the Dalek and Tardis on my desk. He said he knew I knew what was going on. I loved it! --Drmargi (talk) 04:30, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes I am enjoying the blurbs. It is just astonishing that 30 years ago I had to fly to Chicago to get to be with the wonderful fans of the show. Now I get to sit at my computer and revel in the collective joy that show brings us. Being in the room with fans was a bit more special I think. The experience with your student is just awesome (to use the term my mom insisted I stop saying back in the 70's) it is great that he was so perceptive!! Only 48 hours to AAST!!! MarnetteD | Talk 01:45, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

It is almost here!

An Adventure... was simply amazing. I have been reading and listening to interviews about the events of Hartnell's time as the Dr for over 30 years but this docudrama helped me to understand things in ways I never had before. IMO David Bradley deserves several awards for his performance. BTW Google has a fun tribute to Dr Who as its doodle today. It includes a little game where, if A Dalek "Exterminates" the Doctor he regenerates into the next one. 4 Hours to go Woot Woot. MarnetteD | Talk 15:42, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm up and attem and ready for the day. I should sleep for an hour more, but I'm too pumped. I have some grading to do later, and a Skype conference in an hour, which was scheduled to avoid Doctor Who I might add, but other than that, it's Doctor Who day at Casa Mine. The doodle is a kick, especially with its early looking animation. I heard an ad for the episode finally that confirmed we are getting it commercial-free. I thought we must be given the simulcast and the time slot, but it's nice to hear, all the same.
I sent an e-mail about AATS last night; I was an utter puddle at the end. I let out such a gasp when he looked up and saw Matt Smith; it was an unashamedly fanboy moment, but it was also very moving. Matt Smith's wry smile was just right, as was the silence. I knew they'd work in a clip of the real Hartnell at some point, but never saw the cameo coming, of course. But at the end of the day, it was a good story about this little group of misfits trying to make the show work, and that was wonderful. Have you seen the reviews? Every one I read was just glowing. --Drmargi (talk) 16:11, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

thanks for new color

i had no idea how to pick the color--68.231.15.56 (talk) 14:32, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Just Google HTML color and you'll get all kinds of websites with them. After a while, you remember a few that read well on screen. --Drmargi (talk) 14:35, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

If you're going to revert it, at least first read WP:BIDIRECTIONAL which explains that we do not transclude navboxes onto articles that are not linked within the navboxes, or maybe you'd like to read or join the discussion underway at Template talk:Firefly#Actors in navboxes, which establishes prior consensus NOT to include actors in navboxes. --Rob Sinden (talk) 14:42, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

I have no dog in this hunt. I just want the slow revert war stopped. Once a discussion is open, you leave the article at that version, the stable version, and stop reverting while you discuss. You have several discussions open on this, and the reverting has to stop. I would, however, point out two additional things: a) your consensus is for film navboxes, and doesn't extend to television, so your long-standing consensus doesn't apply here and; b) project consensus does not supersede consensus in the larger community, nor is consensus permanent. The two editors who restored the navbox have the right to challenge the consensus you've established, which they've clearly done. You all need to WP:AGF, stop reverting, find one place to discuss this matter, and get it resolved. Otherwise, I'm going to request the article be protected until you do. --Drmargi (talk) 14:50, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Why so difficult?

Why do you insist on reverting every edit I make to Person of Interest (TV series)? I'm baffled. ChakaKongLet's talk about it 21:09, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

I've explained my revisions in edit summaries. It's not about you; it's about content. --Drmargi (talk) 21:40, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Person of Interest (TV series), is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. ChakaKongLet's talk about it 22:00, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

The guidelines include WP:CIVIL and permit the removal of personal attacks. I consider the phrase I removed a personal attack, and acted accordingly. --Drmargi (talk) 22:33, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
You are not allowed to re-edit my comments, which you've now done twice. You do not have my permission. You are taking the stance that in pointing out that your behavior is in violation of Wikipedia:AGF and Wikipedia:Ownership of articles, it is somehow a personal attack. That's very much open to interpretation, and I think your editing of someone else's comments is an overreaction and a bad decision. My comment was made in the appropriate context and if you alter my words again, you'll be subject to an ANI. ChakaKongLet's talk about it 22:47, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
The simpler approach would be to refrain from the personal attacks. Then you don't have a problem. I see your approach as aggressive, bordering on bullying, and I decline to tolerate it. Hi Drmargi. I'm adding the new section (Skills section) to the Harold Finch (Person of Interest) article. I feared that I may have copy and paste from the Person of Interest Wikia and will probably cause plagiarism and violating copyrights again. You see what I planned on doing is cropping down some of the stuff and leaving out important details for the new section. So if it is okay with you, would you grant them permission to access to the Person of Interest Wikia for citations? Let me know in my talk page if they said that it is okay. Have a nice day. Batman194 (talk) 01:22, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I almost forgot something. Tell the people @ the Person of Interest Wikia that I'm truly sorry for what I did with the plagiarism and violating their copyrights from the Harold Finch article. Tell them that. Please. I appreciated it. Batman194 (talk) 01:28, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Look I know you can hear me. I understand that you are possibly busy with other stuff. So please let me know in my talk page if the people at the Person of Interest Wikia said it is okay within their permission to gain access for citations for the Harold Finch (Person of Interest) article ASAP immediately. Batman194 (talk) 03:34, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Hello there. Sorry I hate to bother you during your downtime. Here is my suggestion. I suggest you get on the computer and get the people at the Person of Interest Wikia notified about granting them permission to gain access for citations for the Harold Finch (Person of Interest) article right now. Oh, please don't make me wait because it makes me very impatient and it truly hurts my feelings. Hopefully you'll understand what I mean. Batman194 (talk) 21:58, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
I have a better idea. Why don't you go to the POI wiki site yourself and get whatever you need. This simply isn't my problem. --Drmargi (talk) 22:22, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
I can see that. Okay. Honestly I don't mean to be rude. Batman194 (talk) 22:30, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

breaking yourself off a piece

i don't know why you felt the need to stick your nose into someone else's business but perhaps if you were working a job you would understand not everyone has time to devote to wikipedia learning how to sign posts, and as for why i don't use capitals it is because the caps lock key is broken on my laptop, there now did you really need to know that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.101.218 (talk) 06:34, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Talk pages aren't private, so tough if you don't like what's said once you comment. Criticize someone else, especially by calling them lazy with the post you left and you leave yourself wide open to criticism, excuses or no. If you have time to post and edit, you have time to learn two simple, basic rules. --Drmargi (talk) 07:20, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

but it baffles me what compelled you to throw yourself into someone else's business? don't you have better things to do? and if you had took the time to view MarnetteD's edits you would see i am well within my rights to criticise his lazy and arbitrary editing style, and believe me i am not making excuses for not caring about how to sign a comment, it depresses me that you would care so much about if other wikipedia users know how to sign their comments or not, look for a job please, i know you are unemployed, your doctor of philosophy degree gave it away — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.101.218 (talk) 07:41, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
