Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 11:02, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dt12345673838. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Elliot Salkow, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dt12345673838. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dt12345673838|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. jlwoodwa (talk) 07:27, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello jlwoodwa,
Thank you for your message. I want to clarify that I am not receiving any form of compensation for my edits. I am writing in memory of Elliot Salkow, a highly influential figure in South African technology, to ensure that his contributions and legacy are accurately represented on Wikipedia.
Please refrain from expressing false allegations regarding my contributions. I am committed to following Wikipedia's guidelines and ensuring the information is accurate and unbiased.
Please let me know if there are any specific guidelines or steps I need to follow to comply with Wikipedia's policies and continue contributing to this article.
Best regards,
Dt12345673838 Dt12345673838 (talk) 07:34, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your clear statement. However, I take strong issue on behalf of Jlwoodwa, with this element of it: 'Please refrain from expressing false allegations regarding my contributions." which is tantamount to an accusation that they are lying about you.
The question is worded clearly, contain no allnegations of any description, and is a question that any editor may be expected to be asked at any time.
I believe you owe them a proper apology. One of the key tenets here is civility. Please rectify this lapse. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 11:01, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello FiddleTimtrent,
Thank you for your message and for your concern. I apologize if my previous communication came across as accusatory or confrontational. That was not my intention. I appreciate your reminder about maintaining civility, which is indeed crucial in all interactions on Wikipedia.
I want to clarify that my statement was not aimed at questioning anyone's integrity. Rather, it was intended to assert my commitment to accuracy and adherence to Wikipedia's guidelines. I understand the importance of constructive dialogue and am grateful for your guidance in fostering a positive editing environment.
Moving forward, I will continue to contribute to Wikipedia with diligence and respect for community standards. Please let me know if there are any further steps or guidelines I should be aware of to ensure my contributions align with Wikipedia's policies.
