photo upload[edit]

Dwaipayan da, I'm workin on Bengali wiki. But as I turned on to add photo on articles like [Mahatma Gandhi], most of the pictures are not shown. May be because they are not uploaded on Commons or in Bengali wikipedia. In these cases, what can I do. Would I download them to my computer and then to Commons or Bengali Wiki. Sorry to bother you, but it's always great to hear from you. Oh, by the way, yesterday, you've played an awesome match against Australia in ICC World Twenty20. I really enjoyed it. Congratulations, hope you could bit Pakistan in the final. --Tarif from Bangladesh 09:39, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Electricity was gone. So missed the climax. Congratulations! (You know why ;)

--Tarif from Bangladesh 16:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, many thanks for your comments on the peer review of this article. I have now nominated it for FAC. Please assist in getting it to FA status. Many thanks. → AA (talk) — 08:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed you haven't commented yet. Please do so when you get a chance. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 08:00, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New idea[edit]

Thought about working on it. But did not do a great deal so far. I can work on that tomorrow, if you say we're in with a DYK chance. Hopefully I can add something about it, rather than the incident. What do you think? --Tarif from Bangladesh 16:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Covered nearly everything about the incident. I'm dying (is that spelling ok, may be not) to find a reference on background. But can not find any. I have been reading Alpin almost from it's begining and can write thousands line on it. But again, no reference. What can I do?--Tarif from Bangladesh 10:31, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, let me apologise for not including your name at the hook of Bangali River, I did not know it is possible for two contributors to add both names on a single hook. Anyway, AA has done a great job in Alpin. If he does not nominate the article, please go ahead and nominate. That would rightly include us all three in the suggestsion list. In fact, it's your words that inspired me yesterday to keep working on the article and subsequently AA followed. With Nirav gone and Ragib getting more and more busy, it seems I would continue destroying your talk page ;(

This is a supurb photograph. I am a great fan of Lady Canning. Is it possible to visit her grave? Would restoration work be allowed.

Malayalee[edit]

Hello,

There's a problem in the Malayalee article. The points of contention are the following:

  • Dayaanjali doesn't want the article to mention that marumakkathayam (matrilineality/matrifocality) were practiced by the Nairs. i.e., as a community, Nairs were known to be matrifocal/matrilineal, and a martial class.
  • Dayaanjali insists the the words "Malayali" comes from the Malayalam words Malai and Aali. Historically, the region has been known as Malayalam before the genesis of the Malayalam language. Hence, the words probably originated from old Tamil. He also seems to think that Malayalam originated independently of Tamil, whereas (facts aside) all linguists state that Malayalam split off from Tamil about 800 AD or 900 AD.

Since you are active in Kerala-related articles, I request you to take a look at this matter. Dayaanjali seems unwilling to discuss changes in the talk page. Initially we had a discussion. I provided references to support my points. After this, he has refused to discuss the points, claiming that my edits are "unverified". The discussion is here. --vi5in[talk] 06:39, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I firmly believe that Malayalam developed independently having more influence from Tamil. Having said that, the language has similarities with other languages in south india. It has loaned words from sanskrit and many foriegn languages. Its grammatic styles are similar to Tamil. Script is more similar to Tulu Script. Even then You cannot call it new language. The people of malabar cost was using languague which was different from Tamil even during Sangam period, though part of same kingdoms as that of present day Tamil Nadu. The people are different, the culture is different, the script is different. The words Mala and ali are there in many languages in south india and foreign languages like Sinhala, Thai etc. Its not known where the words come any paryicular language. And about customs of Nair cast, its not specific to nairs. More than that this is not the article that you can list out all the customs and tradition of aparticular community. You have a separate article where you can add details.

Hello Dwaipayan, you might remember I left a message on your talk page earlier about Jugantar, Bagha Jatin and Hindu German Conspiracy. I have just finished writing the Hindu German Conspiracy, which, from the many sources I came accross, was definitely the Indo-German plot that the Jatin article talks about. I was wondering if you know anything else? If not could you at all tell me how I can get this article peer reviewed. I'd also like to nominate Operation Chengiz Khan and Indian National Army for peer review. Would much appreciate if you could tell me how to.RegardsRueben lys 23:17, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello![edit]

Thanks for the really nice message friend, and for your kind words. It's nice to meet you! I personally think our Bollywood pages are well deprived. Bollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world and its members should receive some good recognition here on Wikipedia. Two articles have already FA status and it's great. Preity Zinta is already a GA, and now I'm trying to reach a featured status with some expansion and help from good wikipedians like User:Blofeld of SPECTRE who makes his best to help us. He has had an agreement with some site, which we can get images from (all these images you see on Bollywood pages are from this site). Shilpa Shetty looks good, it needs some improvemnt and minor touches to reach a GA.

I definitely agree with what you said. We have to work more to get as much featured/high level articles as possible. So I'll try to make my best. I guess Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar have the potential for it. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 20:52, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeh I'd like to request a peer review after adding some more details and info. Then it will be perfect for suggestions and new advices. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 10:33, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Hello there, I see you have deleted the topic from Pandit Todarmal and put a single line description. Is there any reason you removed the topic and replaced it with a single line or was it by accident?

Thanks, Vikas —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.226.211.70 (talk) 21:44, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The large part of content was removed because it was written in Devnagari script and Hindi language. This is English wikipedia, so the language should be English. Have clarified in article talk page now.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:13, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eid Mobarok[edit]

Hello, Dwaipayan da. Eid Mobarok! How are you? By the way, I've been planning of a DYK for Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Previously it was a stub. I've added some info. Hope I can add more from web within a day. You can have a look on that. Regards and enjoy Eid and Puja. --Tarif from Bangladesh 11:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't no why, but I always have the belief, I would meet every Wikipedians that I got to know very closely like you. May be then we can talk in Bangla. You can experience my (what I say mixed Dhakaiya) accent (like "Giringi", "Aabar Gigay", "Pejgi", "Phapor" and more ;) I can tell you about our joke related with West Bengali people :). Anyway, I'm working on your points. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 17:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you can manage an attractive hook for the article, please do.--Tarif from Bangladesh 17:39, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some background from Bangladesh Liberation War. It's been raining here (result of Nimno Chap in Bay of Bengal) and any time electricity and internet connection may be gone. --Tarif from Bangladesh 17:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted a hook, it's something like ...that headquartered in Kolkata, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra ran Propaganda during the Bangladesh Liberation War? What do you think? --Tarif from Bangladesh 19:05, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ha!Ha! Don't worry. These are sort of words we don't use formally. When you have "Adda" with your friends, these words add some flavor to it. In fact, people outside Dhaka and even the new ones would not understand these sort of stuffs. "Pejgi" means trouble and "Phapor" means pretending (or something else ;) We actually use them for fun. I'm a bit out of sorts about the hook. I'll try. --Tarif from Bangladesh 09:09, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about... that during the Bangladesh Liberation War, the radio station Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra communicated to the people inside the country from Kolkata?? --Tarif from Bangladesh 16:51, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kalapani[edit]

I was reading a "BIG" article in Prothom Alo about the indians who went to UK during the british regime. It was considered like a sin or something and the history behind it is very interesting. There's some wonderful pictures too (most of them are in PD). I think we can have an article about it. I can start that. What would be the name of it?--Tarif from Bangladesh 07:01, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then. I'll go for Kalapani. Shuvho Durga Puja :) --Tarif from Bangladesh 13:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
there's already a disambiguation page about Kalapani. So, what would be inside brackets? Problem about the other name is it's not only 18th but also a bit more. --Tarif from Bangladesh 14:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've started with the name Kalapani (Indian expatriates in UK). Don't look at it yet ;) I'm trying to keep it in shape.--Tarif from Bangladesh 15:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

শুভ দূর্গা পুজা[edit]

শুভ দূর্গা পুজা !!!
প্রিয় Dwaipayanc,

Amartyabag TALK2ME 11:22, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taking long Wikibreak[edit]

Its about one and a half year I am more or less in Wikipedia and have tried to help out some of the articles. Now, I am going to take an official wikibreak upto March 2008. I have to do this because of my Exams. But I don’t know how far I will be able to stay away from Wikipedia, may be once in a while I will be back to check my watchlist. However, I will not take part in long discussions or large constructive edits. All the best and thank for all help by you. Hope to see more India related FA by the time I am back.
