Draft Bios

Thanks again for your help! J. Chalmers Doane was accepted yesterday! Roy Sakuma was rejected, but I'll work on it. I think I'll just continue working through the wizard, I like having thing reviewed until I get confident. I've still got a few in review status and a handful working on just getting started. Learning new things all the time! Used a table in one. The Ukulele Guy - Aggie80 (talk) 14:45, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

June 2013

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When using certain templates on talk pages, as you did to Template:GAHybrid, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Thank you. I have reverted your edits to this template. Please be more careful. Don4of4 [Talk] 19:24, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Totally edited template instead of article, dang. My bad. Thanks for revert. EBY (talk) 19:38, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Sun Myung Moon may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Macklemore

Hi, you didn't give a reason for your revert on Macklemore. Any particular reason? Thanks Flat Out let's discuss it 03:40, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

I just finished putting the notation on the talk page. The pronunciation has to be spelled out via the Template:IPA. I'm crap at it but willing to help. EBY (talk) 03:43, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
ahhh yes the dreaded IPA. I'll have a go and get back to you, cheers for the reply Flat Out let's discuss it 03:47, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Fingers crossed for you, mate. EBY (talk) 03:53, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Two things: 1: Apparently you forgot to notify the nominator of the article that it was on hold, so another user did it for you. 2: The issues should now have been resolved. :) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:29, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

The edits were good, I re-passed the article. EBY (talk) 17:47, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
I posted this at the GA review, but then thought it'd be more appropriate here.

Re your comment at the GA review: I'm sorry if you thought my tone bite-y, it was certainly not intended so. I don't find chatty writing particularly easy, and I'm aware that some people read sarcasm or sharpness where none was meant. However, I've always understood it was normal that a nominator be informed when their GA review was put on hold, if only as a matter of courtesy. As it looked like you might have forgotten, and I knew that this nominator was generally pretty efficient when it came to dealing with their GAs, I left them a note. And, if you check out WP:GAN/I#Putting the article on hold, bullet point 3 does say the nominator should be notified. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

I appreciate the comment. I was hasty in de-listing it in part because it looked like the article hadn't met some of the stringency in its original review. Wrong way for me to go about it, and things got turned around from there. ABSOLUTELY the original lister should have gotten a notice. It was the word require that was frustrating - involving invested editors in a review is the polite & collaborative thing to do but getting bit for not doing so seems harsh. Many editors drop away because there are social norms they trip over so there is discouragement, even if they were potentially an excellent resource for the encyclopedia articles.EBY (talk) 19:46, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Silly dispute

Hi. Could you comment at this POV dispute? It involves whether material from a source should be included in an article. Dan56 (talk) 01:12, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

I'm duplicating this comment here from Talk:Harry Belafonte: I would like to point out the edits to the image captions are very likely completely unintentional. You'll notice this edit was made with the Visual Editor, and issues like this are a known bug. GorillaWarfare (talk) 14:07, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

RfC part II

Hi. You participated in RfC on Talk:Frédéric Fontang. Per the advice of closing admin "This result sets no precedent for similar articles. To address the other articles, I would suggest a broadly-worded RfC" I have confirmed the title of the second RfC addressing the other 105 affected articles with the closing admin and that follow on broadly-worded RfC is at Wikipedia:Requests for Comment/Duplicate name in basic ASCII character set. Re:Recent edits to Leonard Lim

But why did you undo my edits? Wouldn't the page be deleted if there's not enough edits? The info I put is true.

The Miami Herald

EBY3221 - I ran the Pitbull article through Checklinks. For the Miami Herald it says "Expiring news link". I know what this means because I live in Miami. It means that the story in the Herald will disappear and this will become a dead link. That's why I preempively took out this citation. Also, there are some really dead links. I will get around to them tomorrow. GroveGuy (talk) 09:37, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Paulo Mendonca

Whats the problem? Just read my article in the Swedish newspaper Landet Runt: http://www.landetrunt.nu/artikel/97496 I made one better, with more photos and a prolog: http://www.slideshare.net/LarsLnnberg/paulo-artikel-2

Again, whats the problem!

talk to me, Im online!

  • Hello again. I have incorporated your original citation into the article at Paulo Mendonça. Wikipedia does not use SlideShare files for references because the authorship and impartiality can not be confirmed (see Wikipedia's guidelines for reliable sources). The rules about this are especially firm when it comes to articles about living people - like this one. Also, from your user name, it appears you may have a conflict of interest as the citizen-reporter names as author in the LandetRunt article. It is best in these cases to use the WP:Teahouse or the article's talk page for neutral editor help incorporating such information. EBY (talk) 20:32, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Erroneous revert?

How could this edit be considered unconstructive? (Please reply here - thanks) 188.29.18.184 (talk) 22:46, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

paranorman good faith

I thought my edit was a way of describing him a bit more, without labelling, and actually referring why he is not interested in the person who is interested in him, and how he feels about it. I've watched the film an hour ago :) --81.100.242.0 (talk) 00:17, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

It is all right to call a gay character gay - there's a paragraph devoted to to this later in the article, with cites. I reverted your edit because it was a sort of vague and uncited sentence that introduces fairly controversial material. If you want to be Bold and change it (it's amazing no one has until now) please feel free - just make sure you have a reliable source that you pull from and appropriately credit. Thank you

Hi EBY, thanks for the assessments of the bios of Geoff Tate and Todd La Torre, and providing substantive feedback on how to move forward from here! These points of attention are also very helpful to me in improving other bio articles I work on. Keep up the good work! --Eddyspeeder (talk) 05:26, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

A question: I usually learn how to write better article sections by studying similar Wikipedia articles and looking at how things are done there to understand what is expected and how it should be formatted. You've suggested me to make the following improvement on the page about Geoff Tate: "The discography needs to be filled out more, there are no reviews for the songs or discussion of their impact." I haven't been able to find an article of a frontman that demonstrates how to do this properly. Could you direct me to one or two suitable articles? Thanks in advance! --Eddyspeeder (talk) 10:16, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

If you look at Slash and Myles Kennedy you'll see perhaps a bit of what I mean:

  • Organized with years in subheadings
  • Then in each subheading, the recordings & major shows & milestones, with impact & legacy
  • Major issue in Tate's article is that it skips from '83 to '12 in the space of 3 sentences. There are 14 major albums he worked on that are not discussed.
  • Certainly give the band break-up a subsection. There is a lot of reliable source material. Does it have its own article? It almost should, with so many articles and mentions like this.
  • Operation: Mindcrime has its own article but with source material like this it needs a subheading in Tate's article, too.
  • Another example, the album Kings & Thieves for Geoff Tate is handled well in the "Controversy" section and barely mentioned in the "Solo work" section. No need. Just timeline Tate's career and put that information in chronologically.

-Hope this helps. EBY (talk) 15:54, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 6

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Laney Amplification, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page West Midlands (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
