Thanks you for great contributions to the article. I'd propose to restore the general material on the status of dhimmis, as well on their converison to Islam to the intro. The article is pretty long and a one-sentence intro is not sufficient to summarize it. Pecher Talk 19:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK by me. Eagleswings 07:27, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you find the quote from Lewis about the economic usefulness of dhimmis "polemical"? Pecher Talk 14:46, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why were dhimmis allowed to keep their religion? THis is a complex issue: too complex to be summarized using just one view in an introduction. On a economic level, yes it did suit the Islamic state, and sometimes conversions were even discouraged for this reason. Yes, the economic rational was real. But the theological and legal prohibitions on forcing dhimmi conversions are quie clear - that is one of the points of Sura 9;29, that if the dhimmi is humbled and pays the jizya, the fighting stops. To gloss over this complexity with this citation is going too fast too far for the introductory paragraphs to bear. Another way of putting it, perhaps with the same reference, could be to say that both the legally 'protected' status of dhimmi religions, and the economic advantage of the jizya tax to the Islamic state worked together as disincentives to forced conversions.Eagleswings 15:04, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So, the solution may be to restore the quote into the "Freedom of religion and forced conversions section"? Pecher Talk 17:22, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that makes good sense. It belongs there. I am about to go away for a few days. Would you mind doing this? Eagleswings 21:44, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Already done, see here. Pecher Talk 21:46, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes on humiliation in Dhimmi

[edit]

Some editors have proposed to shorten the "humiliation" section by removing most of the quotes as repetitive. The discussion is taking place here. Pecher Talk 18:47, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:TheThirdChoice.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TheThirdChoice.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 03:49, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This problem has been corrected. Eagleswings (talk) 04:01, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to the "Humiliation section" in Dhimmi article?!

[edit]

Hi,

I'm wondering What happened to the "Humiliation section" in Dhimmi article?!

I believe it contains one of the crucial points that shows clearly the Islamic attitude toward the non-Muslims.Drsms2002 (talk) 05:55, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've no idea what changed there. Eagleswings (talk) 06:07, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
