Salute for the Roy Pinney article + requests

[edit]

Dear Eric,

I enjoyed reading the article on Roy Pinney, and have two requests:

  1. Could you please upload the image "Roy pinney.jpg" to Wikimedia Commons? This would make the image available, for example - for translations into other Wiki languages.
  2. It would be good for the article to have "See also", "References" and "External links" sections at its end.

Best regards, RickP 10:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roy Pinney's death

[edit]

Hi. I'm sorry to hear that your grandfather has died, but until such time as a notice appears in a reliable source, such as the NYT, this information cannot remain in the article. The policies at WP:BLP are there solely to protect the subjects of articles. For one thing, unless you have submitted your identity to the volunteer response team, then I have no evidence that you are who you claim to be. That's the anonymity of the internet: I could create a user name User:JJackson, claim to be Michael Jackson's father, add whatever I wanted, and no one would know unless I submitted proof. We have WP:BLP in place specifically so that no one can log in, falsely claim to be related to someone, and then add whatever they want. If you don't want to wait until a reliable source comes out, I suggest that you to find some sort of proof that he is deceased and e-mail to OTRS. If you need any help with this, please let me know. The only reason that this is such a big deal is that we take our policies on living people very seriously. If there were untrue material on your grandfather, we know you'd want it removed immediately. For the same reason, we must make absolutely certain that anything printed in that biography is true and verifiable, because we know that these biographies can have real and potentially serious effects on actual individuals. I hope that you understand and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions, but please don't re-add the material until there is a reliable source or you have an OTRS ticket number, because your additions will continue to be reverted and you may be blocked from editing, which would be a silly thing to happen because I know you're acting in good faith... but we do have to enforce our living people policies.
