I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!  DES (talk) 15:21, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rossheth | Talk to me 18:05, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to deleting this article, please do not. The Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) does not operate for a profit. It is part of the Department of Commerce and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) for which I will add links in the future. Further more, TMAC is part of the MEP system which should be added to Wikipedia and which I will contribute next. Please see www.mep.nist.gov for further information.

TMAC is affiliated with the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Tech, University of Houston, Southwest Research Institute, UTPA, UTEP, and TEEX. Most of these have articles on Wikipedia. Their mission is to provide technical assistance to increase the competitiveness of Texas manufacturers, which may include best business practices consulting, technology dispersion, productivity improvements, or third party assessments.

I anticipate that there will be several interests to explore in this article: 1) government programs that provide assistance, 3) academic research being transferred into the community, 4) further information about the USA Government, Department of Commerce and NIST.

Thank you for the opportunity to explain. Please give me a chance to expand article and update with links and references.

Ed

Note that any overly promotional page, whether for a business or a non-profit, is unwelcome here. Phrases such as "provides manufacturers with the technical knowledge and training needed to compete and win in a global market" sound like a promotional flyer, not an encyclopedia article. An article about this center might be worth having, but it must be written from the Neutral point of view, and must cite some reliable sources, if at all possible ones independent of the center itself, to verify the factual statements included. I hope that is helpful -- if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. DES (talk) 15:21, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that you misunderstood how to use {{hangon}} -- it is to be placed on the page whose deletion you wish to contest, not on your own talk page. This notifies anyone looking at that page that the page's creator objects to the proposal to speedy-delete the page. Note that it is not enough to place {{hangon}}, you must also give, on the article's talk page, your reasons for not wanting the page to be deleted, and any admin who considers there page is free to decline your request and delete the page anyway if your reasons do not appear sufficient.

It appears that Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center has already been deleted by User:Tone, as an improper advertisement. Please read our anti-advertisement policy. If you really think that this article was not an ad, and should be restored, try leaving a message for User:Tone. But I mist inform you, the version deleted looked like an ad to me too, and i would have deleted it had I encountered it. DES (talk) 15:17, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correction -- User:Rossheth is the user who tagged this page for speedy deletion, User:Tone is the administrator who actually deleted it. DES (talk) 15:25, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not crete duplicate article with slightly different titles -- it just confuses things. Note also that page titles on wikipedia are case sensative, so that Texas manufacturing assistance center and Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center are two different articles.

This article has the same content as the version already delted as spam -- can it be rewitten very promoptly to be less promotional in nature? Otherwise it is very likely to be delted in turn. DES (talk) 15:31, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All, thanks for the help. As you can tell, I'm a bit new at this. Two articles were created on accident as I was trying to get the original "disambig" listed as TMAC. I exchanged messages with Tone and he gave good advice for making article appropriate. I will alter later today. Thanks again...ed
No problem, I am trying to help. Several additional suggestions: Read WP:N (our general guideline on notability), WP:CORP (our guideline on corporate notability), and WP:ORG (our guideline on the notability of non-corporate organizations). Read WP:V (Our verifiability policy) and WP:RS our policy on reliable sources. Or skip the latter two, and just note that you should include citations to independent published sources (not blogs, not pres releases, but official websites are ok) to support factual statements. Note that off-line sources are fine -- just give the kind of info that would let someone look them up. Others can handle details of formatting, and you will catch on to how things are done around here in time.
A couple of bits on using talk pages. It is helpful to change the indent level to distinguish between speakers -- add an extra indent by putting a colon (:) before a paragraph. (Do not put a leading space or spaces, that produces an unwrapped display suitable for program code but very odd-looking for normal text.) And please sign your posts on discussion pages (not on articles) with four tildes(~~~~). The software automatically converts these to a link to your user page and a timestamp -- your you can put a custom signature in your preferences and that is used instead of a link to your user page. I hope these tips are helpful. DES (talk) 16:07, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thanks. Article has been updated to conform more to standard. Further information will be added. Any suggestions on editing article title? e latson 16:32, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I will move it to the proper capitolization, unless ther is a different title you think is better. You will get the move function after your accoun has been active for several days, see WP:MOVE. DES (talk) 17:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the move. Note that the move leaves the lower-case name as a "redirect" (automated pointer) to the proper name. I've also made some edits to conform better to standard wikipedia formatting. What is "TEEX" -- that acronym doesn't seem to be defined in the article. And do please remember to sign talk page postes with four tildes (~~~~). It does help. DES (talk) 17:17, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found and linked TEEX, please double check that I got the correct link target. I've also done some light copyediting. Please provide a citeabel source for the 3700 companies figure when you can. If you want to get my attention in future, you can most quickly do so by puttign a message on my talk page, User talk:DESiegel. Thanks for contributing to wikipedia. DES (talk) 17:25, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for your help. Those were the changes I wanted to make and TEEX is linked correctly. Onward! e latson 20:15, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
