Anon?[edit]

Any clue who the anon is vandalizing your user page? I'll keep my eyes open for further events. Cheers. -- SamirTC 15:20, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It depends what you mean by "who". A distant hypothesis is that it could be User:Benlegrand who is as good as anonymous, since he has no userpage. My reasons for believing this are
a) They both vandalized Keyworth a day apart.
b) I've received menacing emails from someone with the email address benlegrand@msn.com
Thus it could well be that person. Apparently, someone with the maturity of an angsty 12 year old hates me. Nothing big, it's just annoying that he'd put so much effort into defacing my userpage. Edward Grefenstette 15:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The menacing e-mails are worrisome and give credence to your hypothesis. It was a good idea to report it to the admins. Cheers. -- SamirTC 15:33, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. It's not the most pleasant thing ever having some kid stalking you on the internet. Thanks for looking into the matter. Much appreciated. Edward Grefenstette 15:38, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Edward,

Please do not refer to me as 'some kid', as I am a fair bit older than you. Also, I would appreciate it if you would refrain from accusing me of sending 'menacing emails', because that's not true and is simply libellous. I don't believe that I've ever actually sent you an email.

Benlegrand 18:31, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ben, I did not conclude you were the person that was vandalizing my page, nor did I conclude that you were a kid. You're just misreading my statements as assumptions of fact. You see, there is one fixed person A who performed the vandalism. In my first response to Samir, I put forward the hypothesis that your account and 82.38.207.1 were the same person based on the fact that I did receive an email from someone with address specified above (which you claim is not your own) which shares your username, and that this account name and the vandal's IP were "coincidentally" adjacent in the vandalism of the page Keyworth. Furthermore the term "childish" refers to the vandals behaviour rather than his physical age. Would you call a foaming-in-mouth drunken rugby fan who works in a mill and spends his life between the stadium and the pub an adult? I wouldn't, as I wouldn't qualify defacing someone's page, propagating slanderous claims, or anonymously emailing deliberate provocations as adult behaviour. I think it is quite clear that person A is not behaving in an adult manner. Less clear, but possible, is whether or not person A and the person emailing me are the same person. Likewise, it is not certain that you are person A. However, based on the fact you were unexplicably reading this page, and that you for some reason decided to create a user page today, were I to take inference to the best explanation to be a valid epistemological method, I'd have to say things are a bit shady when it comes to your involvement. However, unlike this person A, I am not prone to making claims without valid reasons to justify my beliefs, and will not assert that you are person A (and certainly hope that you aren't for your sake). Perhaps you could do us a favor and act along similar guidelines by not jumping to conclusions because of the formulation of hypotheses. However if it is indeed you who mailed me and committed these acts of vandalism, I'd advise you to grow up a bit and consider turning your attention towards more worthwhile pastimes. Adding to the argument, your edited comment "And I'm not stalking you, I'm just amused by your delusions of grandeur and your offensively self-aggrandising nature." doesn't look too good for your case. I truly believe you should be focusing on your studies, rather than obsessing over some guy from your lectures. I, like anyone, have people I don't like. Instead of looking them up and trying to provoke their ire, I just choose not to interact with them, and turn my attention to more interesting things. I suggest you take a moment to realize you're not in year 8 anymore and act a bit more like a university student, here, Ben. Edward Grefenstette 19:46, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
