Article notes[edit]

I have some notes for the article Northern Illinois Food Bank:

  • This isn't promotional per se, but make sure to be careful of tone. It's best to be very to the point when it comes to organizations. For example, I changed this:
In 2016, more than 200 volunteers came to help compile 9,000 boxes at the Geneva warehouse as part of the Northern Illinois Food Bank annual Holiday Meal Box plan. Companies such as Tyson foods, Kellogg's, Jewel-Osco, Bimbo Bakeries USA and The Jel-Sert Company came out to help assemble the boxes that were distributed to hungry families throughout the months of November and December.
To be more direct:
The Holiday Meal Box is an annual plan conducted by the food bank with the intent to distribute boxes of food to needy families throughout November and December. Companies participating in the annual plan have incldued Tyson foods, Kellogg's, and Jewel-Osco.
This doesn't mean that the section has to absolutely be what I've written, but since tone was raised as an issue I'd definitely go for the "to the point" style of summarizing and then work from there to resolve that concern.
  • This needs more independent and reliable sources to establish notability. Quite a few of these sources are primary, meaning that they were released by the food bank or a person or organization that is affiliated with them. For example, Kane County Connects is run by the local government (from what I can see) so it would likely be seen as primary since they most likely work with the food bank. However that aside, I also must note that this source is just a list of dates and more than likely it's taken from a press release or informational statement from the food bank. Notifications of events without any true information other than dates are considered to be routine and trivial coverage in general, however.
  • One of the links to the Kane County Connects is just a list of things with the food bank tag. It's not something that should generally be used as a source, since there's no way to tell which specific link is meant to source the claims.
  • The Charity Navigator rating is typically not seen as an award. I've retitled this as "Charity ratings" instead, as the rating will be given to an organization regardless of whether it's good or bad - the bad ratings definitely won't be seen as an award.

I hope that this all helps! --Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:03, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
