Former recurring characters

[edit]

@Soaper1234: query – Conrad (paramedic), played by Bazil Otoin, had a "recurring" span of two episodes back in 1989. I can't help but feel that Conrad wasn't a recurring character. Also, we didn't include Scott "Rocker" Rosher (HART paramedic in S30) in the former recurring characters section (and he appeared in two episodes in series 30 too), so I feel like we should leave Conrad out of the recurring character section. I also cannot find a source for him either. What do you think: include character without a reference, or remove character? ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 18:54, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Remove him, thank you for adding each character. It takes a lot of time and I appreciate you doing so. Soaper1234 (talk) 18:58, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: will do. No problem, it's finding references for a few characters which can be a little tricky, but it isn't too time consuming, so I don't mind. Sooner it's done the sooner we can update the main article too. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 19:34, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page finished

[edit]

@Soaper1234: Finished the page (finally!). What do we do now? ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 17:10, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Thank you so much for entering all the characters in. The article is looking good. What is your opinion on the former main actors pictures - do you feel there to be enough? We could also do with four/five actors pictures for the former recurring characters. I'll find them and include them asap. We could also do with a copy edit and reviewing the featured list checklist. Soaper1234 (talk) 19:01, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, to add, I've checked the notes and some characters who have had breaks aren't mentioned to have had breaks. It may just be one character (Baz), but we may have to check individual characters for safe keeping. I'd prefer that we run through each character than miss characters out when we are trying to achieve FL status. Sorry to be picky and thank you for all your work Soaper1234 (talk) 19:12, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: No problem. I agree, I'm liking it. I'm liking the images added so far, you could add a few more if you wish, but it wouldn't matter if you didn't, the pictures and captions are very good. I think we could also do with a picture of the title card at the top. I would contribute to the addition of images but I'm not actually sure how I add them. Yes, we'd certainly need a copyedit, we'll need to find and ask an editor, JuneGloom07, perhaps? I know about the partial addition of appearance notes, I decided to stop doing them for a while because I got bored of writing notes out! I was meant to add them but I've kept delaying it. I'll add them over the next day or two. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 19:45, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Scrap that – did all the notes now instead. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 20:22, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: A title card is a really good idea, failing that a cast photo would be a good. I'll add a couple of images and review each characters to recurring as soon as possible. I think June would be a great person to review it. Your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed! Soaper1234 (talk) 19:36, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: brilliant, thank you for all your help, I couldn't have done it without you! I'll leave a message on June's talk page now. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 21:00, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Thank you for allowing to collaborate on the project with you. Perfect, only one step closer to a finished article. Should we discuss the next level of protection with an admin? Soaper1234 (talk) 21:07, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: no problem, you have been a great help. I think it would be worth it, but the only problem I feel we have is how we prove the users who have signed up and disruptively edited the page are IPs? I mean we can ask an admin to use a Checkuser, but what else can we do to prove the users are IPs? I think it is definitely worth querying about it though, because the article is still disruptively edited. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 14:53, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: That's a good point actually, we may have to leave it and keep a constant check over it, the same amount of work put into keeping the series 30 and series 31 articles safe from vandalism. Soaper1234 (talk) 15:58, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: let's keep a close eye on the article once we've updated it and hopefully it won't be disruptively edited much more. Also, I've spoken to JuneGloom07 about copy editing and what she thinks on the article etc. I put Holby.tv sources for characters I couldn't find alternative sources for, but June said about changing them for other sources, so I need to find more sources for accuracy. If you look on her talk page there's an ongoing talk, she also mentioned the notes, so it will be worth having a look at her comments so far. The article is definitely looking good though, I don't think it will be too long now before the article is ready (hopefully!) ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 16:16, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Hopefully not long now, can't wait for the updated version to be added. Also on that topic, we may need to ask an admin to move it over rather than copy it over. Re: the notes, I understand what June means in terms of appearance notes, but the only issue is not everyone has an article/list entry. In terms of occupation notes, to a random reader, it will come across as if they have held that occupation since arriving. Soaper1234 (talk) 16:30, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: I thought about that the other day, I think we will have to ask an admin to move the page as opposed to simply overwriting the article ourselves. I see where you come from with regards to the notes, I think maybe the notes are okay, but I do sometimes wonder about the appearance notes, although as you said not every character has an article or list entry. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 15:59, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElectrodeandtheAnode: I've decided to see about getting some tips about the article from an admin who doesn't really involve themselves in Holby articles in order to see another point of view. I've chosen to ask AnemoneProjectors, who does a lot of work in EastEnders articles. Hope this was ok. Soaper1234 (talk) 17:43, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Soaper1234: No worries, I'm absolutely fine with that. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 18:10, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: AP has responded on their talk page. Looks good - I'll try adding in references soon. I also checked notes and everything is pretty much alright. Soaper1234 (talk) 19:05, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: Brilliant, thank you for that! Sorry I've gone a little quiet on this article at the moment, I am a fan of Midsomer Murders also and I noticed the List of Midsomer Murders episodes is an utter mess, so I'm tidying that article up immediately as it has literally been abandoned and only has IP editors on the page now. I will try and make some more edits on this page over the next few days. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 19:20, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Notes

[edit]

Back here again, Soaper1234. Having looked back through what June suggested to make the article into a featured list, she wrote as part of her review back in September on her user talk page about notes. She mentioned removing all notes (occupational roles and first/final/cameo appearance dates) and incorporating them into list entries/article entries. What do you think about the notes section? ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 11:01, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Hi again! The only problem with removing the notes at the moment is that not all characters have list entries, so they would be nowhere to store them! In the future, yes, by all means, remove the notes, but until everyone has a page, I think they are a source of information. Soaper1234 (talk) 11:07, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page update

[edit]

Hi Electrode, hope you are keeping well and the exams went ok! I've just updated the article to reflect recent changes and I have a few points I'd like to make about hopefully moving the article into mainspace and then putting it up for Featured List.

  1. Table width: I was wondering why the table widths vary throughout the article? I'm not sure if this was deliberate or if it could be changed. A personal bugbear of mine but if you feel it should remain, by all means leave it.
  2. Holby City Hospital: I removed 'Holby City Hospital' from Hanssen's role as it seems to me that this is obvious and we don't reference it for every character?
  3. Relative: After noticing Denise Ellisson was down as a relative on the actual article, I questioned what should be considered a relative. Rather than relatives of anybody, I think it should be limited to relatives of the main cast so for example, it would Louis Fairhead (Charlie's son) or Brian Carroll (Dylan's father) rather than relatives of patients who should be classified as patients or visitors.
  4. Notes: I know we have spoken about notes in the past following reviews by other users where I have been apprehensive to remove them until a character has a list entry. However, on reflection, I feel it may be more beneficial if we were to remove ALL notes from this article and I will keep them in my sandbox until a list entry for the character is created. This way we will be able to move the article into mainspace quicker and hopefully nominate it for FL quicker as well.

Let me know your thoughts on the above points and hopefully, we can work on them. I am aware you are busy with a HolbyBlue draft so don't feel as though you need to abandon that for this. I am really proud of the work you and I - mainly you - have put into this draft and would be very pleased if it reached Featured List status. Thank you. Soaper1234 - talk 13:53, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, @Soaper1234:, I am indeed keeping well, how about you? Exams went well thank you! Firstly, a huge thank you for taking the time to update this article, I really appreciate it. In response to your queries:
  1. Table width: I am not actually sure why they vary. I went to edit the article and have a look if there was anyway of expanding the columns so they are the same throughout the article, however I cannot find any way of being able to adjust the columns individually. Unless you are able to change the table widths, I am afraid the varying widths may stay.
  2. Holby City Hospital: Thank you for removing that! I did not actually notice that however now you have brought it up it is a little obvious that Hanssen is in charge of Holby City hospital, considering the works AT the hospital...
  3. Relative: A very good point there. I have always been baffled personally by having each recurring character named as a 'relative' without anyone actually specifying who that character is related to. I think 'visitor' is a more appropriate alternative, what about you?
  4. Notes: That sounds like a beneficial move to me. I really hope we can update the current main article soon, as it could desperately do with an update. I would certainly be more inclined to maintain the article too as it would be neat and, more importantly, a visual representation of all the hard work both you and I have put into the article. I would be over the moon if we were able to get the article up to featured list status. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 21:12, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding ElectrodeandtheAnode. I'm well, thank you and I'm glad to hear your exams went well! I think I may have a solution to the table width problem.... Visitor sounds better for me, yes. Well I have created a table with all the notes in at my sandbox so I shall move all the notes out. From there, I suggested we request a move from draftspace to userspace to keep the history and hopefully, with some odd tweaks we should be able to bring the list to FL status! Soaper1234 - talk 21:46, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a solution to the table width problem then please, by all means, realign it! Thank you very much for all the hard work you have put in with helping this article become a much better-looking, more informative article compared to the current mess it is in. I hope we can get it to FL status, we put a lot of work into this article, you and I, I hope it all pays off! I will leave the notes down to you, let me know when you have moved them all. Thank you for all your contributions. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 16:50, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll sort that now then. I have to say, I've enjoyed working on the project but the credit goes to you. This was your idea, your draftspace and you have done amazingly! I would love to see this reach FL status so I think I shall sort the widths and remove the notes then I would possibly maybe ask an active Holby editor to take a look over it following recent changes, complete feedback from that and get it into mainspace! Soaper1234 - talk 17:16, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Let me know your thoughts on the widths. Soaper1234 - talk 20:32, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: Fantastic! Thank you for dealing with the notes too. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 07:09, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
