Hello. Could you please advise me regarding article gv:Pooar ushtey-lectragh ? Which wikidata item shall be connected with this article - wikidata:Q15911738 or wikidata:Q80638 ? --Movses (talk) 05:37, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

wikidata:Q80638 is probably the better choice, though the literal meaning of the title is 'Hydroelectric power'. embryomystic (talk) 07:57, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the maintenance edits of historic NZ parties, if you like doing this kind of repetitive work, you should familiarise yourself with the AutoWikiBrowser. It's much quicker to do so with that tool. Schwede66 17:44, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Interview invitation from a Wikipedia researcher in the University of Minnesota

[edit]

I am Weiwen Leung, a student at the University of Minnesota. I am currently conducting a study on how people on the LGBT+ Wikipedians group use and contribute to Wikipedia.

Would you be willing to answer a short 5 minute survey? If so, please email me at leung085@umn.edu. It would be helpful if you could include your Wikipedia username when emailing.

Thank you, Weiwen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weiwensg (talkcontribs) 03:11, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Embryomystic. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Anton-Hermann Chroust, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Breton vowel length + stress

[edit]

Hi Embryomystic, do you know any dictionary that shows whether a stressed vowel is long or not, and are there rules to determine stress in each dialect? Thanks! — AWESOME meeos * ([ˈjæb.ə ət məɪ])) 01:16, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Research Question

[edit]

Hello Embryomystic, I just wanted to start out by saying that I greatly appreciate all of the work you have been doing to provide resources for threatened languages with little resources! I have stumbled upon your contributions several times. I am a student researching Isleño Spanish and I have had the opportunity to view various records as well as interview remaining speakers. With a topic lacking in many resources, I was curious how you have found your information? For example, you have listed romana as a dress, which is of course correct, but this is not known outside of the community as far as I am aware of. I would love to hear how you have become so knowledgeable!

Regards, Amiloshoff (talk) 03:32, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your kind words. I don't recall where I found that particular detail, but I do read extensively on the subject of minority and minoritised language varieties, and in particular ones related to languages I already speak. I live in Montréal, and speak Québec French on a regular basis; it and other colonial varieties of French are very interesting to me, in addition to being accessible to me thanks to my already speaking a related variety, and I'm better able to assess the verifiability of a piece of information in a way that I wouldn't be if I were reading about a variety of, say, Portuguese, Malay, Dutch. I have access to a university library, with all the advantages that come with that, and although I don't read as many of the physical books as I'd like, I do read scholarly articles when I have the time and the attention span. What's really helpful for finding these things is just sincere interest. I might come across all kinds of things, not all of which contribute to Wiktionary, but I'm in the right place to find things that do.
I appreciate hearing from you. It's nice to know that I'm not alone out there in the stacks. I really respect your being out doing fieldwork in addition to reading existing material.
