Awkward Turtle

Several attempts have been made to make a page for the gesture The Awkward Turtle. This has not met with any success, and all pages have been deleted. I believe that this gesture has merit as a part of an encyclopedia, and wish to have an open discussion with anyone who feels otherwise. For the time being I have not yet tried to create a page specifically for the Awkward Turtle, and have started by adding it to the List of Gestures page. I have cited two sources, one a popular news blog that makes use of the term as an important focal point, even listing it in the title. I believe this goes towards the notion of the term's social importance, as evidenced by its use on a major online blog (Gawker). The second source is an article from the website of the Columbia School of Journalism. This source briefly mentions the history of the gesture, and indicates its popularity among high school and college students. I believe this source goes to the credibility of the gesture. Both of these sources specify how the gesture of Awkward Turtle is made, and the two sources are in agreement. A third, though less reliable source, cites a Facebook page with over 400,000 followers. This I believe speaks to the widespread nature of the gesture. I want to encourage anyone who disagrees with the posting of this subject to contact me here on my talk page or go to the talk page for List of Gestures and comment there. I believe that the sources cited provide enough evidence for the inclusion of this gesture, and I wish to engage in a discussion of the subject in order to determine whether it truly belongs on Wikipedia. Hello Emccurdy, and welcome. I notice that another user removed content you added to the page List of gestures and that you then used the "undo" function to re-insert the content.

The preferred pattern for editing Wikipedia pages is referred to as "bold-revert-discuss". This means that you should be bold in making changes and adding content, as you did, but if another editor has concerns about those changes, she or he can revert them. After that, the disagreeing parties, along with other editors, need to discuss the proposed changes on the article's talk page. Please wait for some consensus to emerge from the discussion at Talk:List of gestures#Awkward turtle before reversing another edit on that section of the page.

By the way, the Columbia News Service article you cite does seem to be a comparatively reliable source, something that was missing from the various Awkward Turtle pages deleted in the past. This seems like a good step toward establishing notability. Cnilep (talk) 23:38, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
