Edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks!

Since 2016 the Red Bull Ring has officially had ten corners. Articles on races after this point should have a track map which uses the corner numbers contemporary for when the event was held. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 20:00, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Writing about future events as though they've already happened

[edit]

as you did at Lando Norris in relation to the British Grand Prix, isn't allowed here - please don't do this again. I've had to restore the original version of that section as a result (in addition to having to tweak the grammar a little). Thanks, Patient Zerotalk 15:51, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lando Norris

[edit]

Hello. Regarding your edits to the page Lando Norris, it is clear by the number of times you have been reverted, by at least a half-dozen different editors, there is objection to adding the mugging incident. I suggest you read WP:BRD and highly recommend starting a discussion at Talk:Lando Norris, before making any further attempts to re-add it. Thank you and all the best! --DB1729 (talk) 11:39, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Lando Norris. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges on that page. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Information icon Hello, I'm SSSB. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.
SSSB (talk) 07:55, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. DO NOT describe it as "one of the most unusual and controversial", this is an opinion and therefore requires a direct source. Thank you, SSSB (talk) 11:08, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, you may be blocked from editing. SSSB (talk) 08:52, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Citing Twitter

[edit]

Per WP:TWITTER it is only acceptable to cite twitter (or any social media) in very limited and constricted circumstances. These conditions are not met by Will Buxton's tweets about the 2021 Russian Grand Prix qualifying, so please stop citing those tweets. SSSB (talk) 12:36, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
