AfD on a student's page

A heads up, in case you didn't notice it: see User_talk:Caseydud#Politics_and_pop_culture_in_the_US. I'll help if the student responds to me but I thought you'd want to know. I'll drop a note to the other CA and to the instructor too. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:42, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

I've added a couple of introductory sentences to the article, which seems to have had the effect of shifting the AfD from "delete" to "userfy"; I suspect that if I deleted everything the students put in and just left my two sentences as a stub, the consensus would shift to keep. If this weren't a student page I'd do that as the natural way for the article to evolve; I hesitate a little here because it's a student article, but I think it might be the best thing to do. Any thoughts on whether that's the right approach? I've left a similar note for the other Campus Ambassador. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 12:29, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Spring 2012 classes?

Hi -- I've been a bit busy on other things and may have missed the announcements, but are we now signing up for 2012 Spring classes, or hasn't that happened yet? I looked around and found this page which confuses me because it has me listed for two classes I know I didn't sign up for. Did I miss something? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 04:51, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

OK, now I'm really confused. It looks like Mitch Harden, the professor of that course, added it, and left in the old ambassador names. However, it seems to be on that list twice, and in any case with 200 students that would require 12 ambassadors according to the email LiAnna sent out on Wednesday. LiAnna indicated that some classes would qualify for ambassadors and some would not, but if Mitch is adding his class, does that mean he's been told he qualifies? Sorry to bug you with these questions but perhaps you can point me to someone who would know the answers -- LiAnna, maybe? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:49, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion; I've pinged Cindy. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:09, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Help Finding a Local Admin

Hello, I am a student in Jaobar's Wiki-Project Management class. Our first assignment is to create a 'tutorial' about how to become a Wikipedia Administrator. Our group would like to find a local Wikipedia Administrator to interview, which would lead to us creating a video tutorial about the process. Would you happen to know of anyone who lives somewhat close to East Lansing that is an admin? Bramson (talk) 16:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC) Hi ! I work with Bramson on the same project. Do you have any contacts that can help us in East Lansing? Thanks :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kamouaa (talkcontribs) 16:30, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Creating tabs in user sandboxes

In designing their bookshelf, one of our student groups wants to create some tabs, similar to the tabs used on the EP course pages. Can you direct us to some resources for designing something like this? Thanks. --Jaobar (talk) 15:56, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Is there a place where OAs are discussed?

Hi,

I noticed that another editor has concerns about the same OA as I did a while ago. He's concerned that she is on the "Online Ambassadors Selection Committee", the same concern that I had.[1] We both posted on User talk:JMathewson (WMF)'s page because it isn't clear how this program is run. Has anything been clarified about the qualifications of those on the this committee? And is there a central place where concerns should be posted?

Regards, MathewTownsend (talk) 22:51, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

What you are looking for is this: Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Steering_Committee/Online_Ambassador_selection_process, as of right now by virtue of being in the general Ambassador Program Steering Committee, the person you are talking about is part of that selection process. Considering the Ambassador program as a whole is looking at how to improve things (in particular on the communication end of things), if you would like to make a proposal to change this (or anything else) feel free to do so here:Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Steering_Committee#Proposals. If that is not what you are looking for - please let me know. Epistemophiliac (talk) 23:02, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm letting you know, as you said to above that sending me to the committee is not going to work. I'm looking for a place to complain about an editor on that selection committee. The editor that I, and two others,[2][3] have a problem with is on that committee where that link that you provided goes. So going to the committee that causes the problems isn't the solution, I don't think. MathewTownsend (talk) 22:33, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
I understand your frustration, but as of right now there is no "higher power" to appeal to - I would presume you could ask for a recall, and that would force her to abstain from any votes on that - but I can only ask her not to participate in certain things, not force her. And I really do apologise here. Epistemophiliac (talk) 04:22, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to file a formal complaint per instructions on Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Steering Committee/Ambassador Recall Process

I believe you know my complaints. I've listed most of them on Wikipedia talk:Ambassadors/Steering Committee/Ambassador Recall Process, and other pages if you wish to know more. They are also listed by others at ANI problem in the online ambassador program Thank you, MathewTownsend (talk) 22:35, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

I will get the gears moving on the official inquiry side then. Epistemophiliac (talk) 23:03, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

My Online Ambassador Application

Why'd you close it? It only had 3 votes! It's only a week or so old.Tomtomn00 (talkcontributions) 10:19, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

That's kinda the point - if after a week, there are only 3 votes - all negative/neutral, chances are you are not going to be successful as there are only 2-3 others who actively vote. If you are really interested in helping out - I recommend looking into helping out on one of the IRC help channels or the Teahouse for a bit, and if that goes well re-apply in 2-3 months and you should be successful.
