Your comments on Conservative Judaism[edit]
Hello, I noticed that you characterized some recent edits to this article as "vandalism" when you reverted them. Just wanted to remind you that Wikipedia's WP:Vandalism#What vandalism is not policy states that the word "vandalism" should only be used for blatantly disruptive behavior -- four-letter words, total nonsense, etc. -- and shouldn't be used for edits that simply happen to be unsourced or are perceived to be POV. See also our WP:Assume good faith and Please do not bite the newcomers policies. Wikipedia's requirements for editors can be confusing to newcomers, and throwing words like "vandalism" around can inflame honest people and may even be perceived as defamatory. The edits that you reverted seemed to me to be honest attempts to improve the encyclopedia, and the people who made them deserve to be respected as such, given the benefit of the doubt, and worked with. When you encounter an editor who makes unsourced or POV edits, particularly a new one, it might be useful to write on the editor's talk page explaining, in a courteous manner, the relevant policies and why you undid the edit involved. - Appreciate your reply. Agree the edits involved were improvident. But my understanding is that the primary issue WP:VANDAL gives for determing if vandalism has occurred is "deliberate intent to compromise Wikipedia." Violating policies doesn't affect this, editor intent is all that matters. As long as it's still possible for a generous administrator to believe that an editor subjectively intended to improve the article, the edit isn't vandalism. My edits to Conservative Judaism deleting "A dedication to Halakha... [as a] guide for our lives." reflects CJLS ruling on marriage and ordination. The CJLS ruling violates Halakha as it has existed in the Law. Sincerely, Nkras 07:20, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
