1883[edit]

1832 (initial) Joel Goldschmidt establishes the "Zoo" near Bordeaux, France and presumably begins "Joel's Diary". The mummy of an unknown life-form is brought to the zoo and dubbed "SAYA". Extracted from its pregnant belly are two cocoons, which react to drops of human blood. Extracted from the cocoons are two children that are human in appearance. As an experiment, the two are given different growth environments in order to observe their growth difference. Joel chooses to raise one, which he names Saya, like his own daughter. The other is left unnamed and is locked up in a tower, where Joel's assistant Amshel takes care of her only giving her the minimum necessary to live.

Haji falls from a cliff, and Saya turns him into a Chevalier via a mouth-to-mouth transfusion of her blood. Diva murders all humans who were in the castle excluding Amshel, who Diva turns into her first Chevalier. This tragedy was later recorded as "Bordeaux Sunday". Humans infused with Diva's blood appear and begin attacking humans. These creatures are named "Chiroptera". "Red Shield" is established by Joel's grandchildren and begins to pursue Diva.

Amshel's Chevaliership[edit]

Well, I know that's written in the OFFICIAL timeline, but don't you think that Anshel became Chevalier long before the tragedy in the Zoo took place? Remember , at first Joel and Anshel both were quite young, and we know that Joel was merely 21 years old when he got SAYA and started his research. Then in episode 22 at the moment when Saya complains to Joel about Haji's disobeyance Joel is already quite old, his hair are already white, but Anshel looks like a man in his 40-es, and wears the same purple suit. That means that he probably became Chevalier BEFORE 1883. I know that official is official, and it's difficult to judge about age basing on looks alone but that's just the point i wanted to make about it.--SayaMan 18:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent point, I never thought about that before. They did look about the same age when they first got SAYA and Amshel didn't look like he was in his 70's later on. Come to think of it, in 1863 Joel "became aware" of the special properties of Chiropteran blood. Maybe he actually tested it on Amshel, or Amshel tested it on himself and showed the results to Joel. Or maybe Diva convinced him to become a Chevalier earlier and Joel finally understood what the blood could do in 1883. --Eruhildo 18:57, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but we know four facts: 1) that Joel became "aware" after 1863. 2) that Haji appeared in 1870-ies 3) that both Saya and Diva were meant to have some "breeding partners" 4) that Anshel visited Diva's cell from the very start and he himself confessed that in order to for her to conceive they made her elope with humans and her own chevaliers alike. That makes me think that Anshel...ahem... could be part of the experiment even before 1883. Ahshel most certainly DIDN'T look as old as Joel and Joel was about 61 or more when that talk with Saya took place--SayaMan 19:51, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anyways Anshel is known for his eagerness to know everything about Chiropterans, perhaps he was eager enough not only to feed cocoons with his blood, but also to drink it, and experiment in every possible way.

2013 Kai, with Diva's twin daughters, visit his family's grave where Saya sleeps. They notice a rose with a blue ribbon tied to the stem of the rose. Kai realizes that Haji left it because the ribbon was his hair tie.

Diva's Children's Age[edit]

And how do you know it was 2013? I mean i thought the girls were about 4 years old at the moment when they visit the grave. Maybe even younger. Again, i'm not good in judging about age on appearance especially in children )) but in 2013 the girls would have been 6 years old... going to school already ;) And here they still behave like infants, barely talking --SayaMan 03:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, i'm afraid the exact date is unknown since there's no mention even on the official site. And the whole scene with Kai and the girls visiting started without any mention about the date i think.--SayaMan 04:08, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I expected something like "Five Years Later" to come up at the start of that scene, but there was nothing. I was so disapointed. I'd say the girls look between 3 and 6 years old, though probably about 4 or 5. How about using circa? --Eruhildo 05:11, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the girls are about about 3-4 years. That's just my personal impression, but I really think that at 6 years kids' speach is much more developed. Maybe i'm wrong though :) Anyways i'm not familiar with info on how japanese children are doing with the language at that age.
