The Woodlands Swim Team

[edit]

I noticed the article you created, The Woodlands Swim Team, does not reference any sources and has a very 'advertising' tone. There are a few guidelines about writing for Wikipedia that you should look at.

First of all, if you are directly affiliated with the organization you are strongly urged to refrain from editing the article in question. Guidelines related to this can be found at Wikipedia:COI.

Secondly, articles need to reference reliable sources. If no sources are provided for an article, it may be original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. If you are able to provide sources (such as third-party newspaper articles, books, etc) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jujutacular talkcontribs 20:24, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I edited the page according to your instructions and added a reliable reference, but still got deleted. Its a swim team and I looked at different swim teams and did not even add as much as other swim team had put in. please help. Erwine (talk) 20:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article was deleted because the administrator felt that it did not indicate notability. The best way to keep this article from being deleted would be by adding reliable sources. For instance, has the team been featured in any Houston Chronicle articles? Sources such as these are required in Wikipedia for verifiability. Jujutacular talkcontribs 20:53, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is in a lot of articles, I added one and was ready to add another and it was deleted. Took me almost 2 hours to create the site, should you not be at least be patient with newbies like me, and now I have to start over again. Erwine (talk) 21:06, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked the admin that deleted the article to userfy it for you. You will be able to keep it as sub-page of your personal talk page (not a normal article). There you can make changes and I can help. From there, when it is ready it can be moved back as a normal article again. By the way, it is customary to place the four tildes at the end of your comment on talk pages. Thanks. Jujutacular talkcontribs 21:14, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Userfied. --Smashvilletalk 21:17, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ok thanks, I was just ready to start creating the page again, I will see once its available and just have you verify that its ready to go Erwine (talk) 21:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a few changes. Notice that I added "the team has sent twenty-five swimmers to the olympic trials", as opposed to writing blanket statements like "it has a tradition of excellence". The information in the page should be what indicates notability and would warrant inclusion in Wikipedia. If you know of any more sources of information for the article feel free to add them. Jujutacular talkcontribs 21:56, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks again, I was trying to add another reference, but it would not save, anyway the page looks good, can this page be saved now for access? thanks again.Erwine (talk) 22:58, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually able to add another reference, can you please verify if it is ok and can you move this page back as a normal article or should I request that from the other admin, thanks again Erwine (talk) 23:20, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will create the page in the main namespace now. Again, please start a new line when you add comments on talk pages and only sign your name with the four tildes at the end of your comment (I fixed your above comments). It is difficult to read if you do not. Thanks. Jujutacular talkcontribs 00:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
