Villa assessment

It's still a B I'm afraid, though your changes look to be sending the article in the right direction. The next step up from "B" is good article, which has its own criteria. The most immediately obvious areas for attention are that several paragraphs are unreferenced, and there is a heavy bias toward recent events (the 25th aniversary celebrations of the European Cup win take up as much space as the season in which it was won). Oldelpaso 20:42, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I see you've started a peer review. I'll put more detailed comments there. Oldelpaso 20:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
At some point tomorrow I'll see what I can do to balance out the History section. Oldelpaso 22:06, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

European Cup

I can't see anything in the peer review which indicates a bigger section. I think it's a) out of whack with the other Excellent Articles to have such a big section on one season, and b) makes us look a little parochial. I'd definitely have no problem with your expanded section appearing in the main History of Aston Villa article, though.

In other chat, I think we should limit the Notable Players to players with more than 100 appearances for Villa, unless a reference to their notoriety (let's say if we had the youngest ever goalscorer or if one of them ever killed anyone!) is added to justify that inclusion. Thoughts? Superlinus 10:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

AVFC peer review

Sure thing. Let me know specifically some of the points that have been raised you need help with and I'll do my best. Cheers! The Rambling Man 14:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know I'm working (slowly) on the article, with particular reference to those things I brought up. I'll keep you in touch with how I'm going... Just one word of advice, I prefer to see responses rather than just struck-out text on the peer review, it helps me know if you've understood and implemented the comments I've made properly. All the best The Rambling Man 19:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Hey, nothing major, yet, but if you click on this then you'll see the minor edits I've made so far. I'm working on the easy bits first (it's getting late and I'm watching the snooker final!) but will focus on the hard bits soon... The Rambling Man 19:26, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, no bother, hope you understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it to the article. If you have any specific questions then please ask, that's what I'm here for. Selby for champ! The Rambling Man 19:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
We've a way to go, I'm hoping that we can fight off the folks who keep reverting my changes! I'll keep tinkering and adjusting the comments in the peer review. In the meantime, try to have a go at making changes yourself in accordance with the comments. Don't forget to leave an Edit summary as that'll help me (and other editors) understand what you've changed and why. All the best... The Rambling Man 21:38, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Right, I'm off to bed, but well done on your edits so far. The next piece of advice I'd offer is to use the en-dash instead of the hyphen when talking about football seasons. You can get an en-dash from the wiki markup section when you edit a page, or use the following notation: – so if I referred to 1977-78 in English football, I'd use the following notation in wiki markup: [[1977-78 in English football|1977–1978 season]] which would end up looking like 1977–1978 season. Hope that helps, if you have any more questions then don't hesitate to get in touch. For more info, read WP:DASH. Keep up the good work! The Rambling Man 22:15, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, your new article Aston Villa European Cup Win 1982 has been nominated for speedy deletion. I'm tempted to agree with it because I believe this information should be captured in the History of AVFC article and in the 1981/82 European Cup article. How do feel about that? List of Aston Villa F.C. players

Hi, i have updated the List of Aston Villa F.C. players page with a new format for the table and i have filled in the blanks as far as i can. I was wondering if you would be able to fill in any more of the missing data. The main problem is that the appearances on the WikiBio infoboxes are only for league appearances. The table itself lists all appearances including cup games. As you have been one of the main editors on Aston Villa i was hoping that you had access to the material. If not i will continue to search the web for it and enter it as and when i can. Also do you think there should be a goals column? Thanks Woodym555 17:02, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it is close now, possibly needs "in popular culture" to be turned into prose and a new section created on ownership and or supporters. Most if not all the other FA football articles have these sections in them. I will work on it tonight. Woodym555 17:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
I have put it up for GA review on a joint nomination with you. We will see soon whether it is not one and how to improve it. Woodym555 20:37, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for putting that data in, great website, i used it to put in all the dates as well. I have now listed the players under date order as opposed to alphabetically as that is what the other featured football lists do. It should be a featured list in no time. I will put in a goals section when i can. Thanks again. Woodym555 22:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Got to do our bit in Randy's Revolution! Woodym555 22:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi, a few bits of advice, when putting it references can you put in the "|accessdate=" syntax as well, it is part of the cite web template and needs to be included. Secondly it is a lot easier to use the flag template, instead of putting England english etc just put  England and it inputs the information for you. Oh and on talk pages do you use the four tildes (~) because then it links to your user page. Thanks again Woodym555 22:47, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Aston Villa F.C. is now a Good Article. It has finally passed it. I will start work on some minor improvements to it before starting the FA process. All i did was move some text and add some other bits. The main body of the text and the statistics have been built and maintained by you and many others. Thanks for all your contributions! Well Done! Lets hope we buy some players now! Woodym555 16:42, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Aston Villa FAC

Aston Villa F.C. is now at FAC stage here Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Aston Villa F.C.. I have fixed all the concerns currently listed. We will now have to see if any more concerns are listed. If you wouldn't mind watching it as well and you can fix any more problems if they arise? Now we watch and wait and hopefully it will pass soon. Woodym555 15:30, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

There hasn't been that much to do to be honest. An anonymous ip tried to add in every minor cup anyone related to Aston Villa has ever won so i added a new Honours section onto the statistics page and kept the main page for main honours. Oh and User:AlexWilkes has changed username to User:Tripod86 and tried to add section headers to every paragraph again.
The FA seems to have stagnated somewhat at the moment, i have fixed all the reviewers concerns, just waiting for replies. Woodym555 13:18, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Whenever User:Raul654 thinks that there is enough support, he has overall control of Featured Articles. In answer to your comment on other article, some have decayed somewhat. Some may even get to WP:FAR soon. We can only be patient and wait for more comments and supoort or hope Raul goes through them soon. We have fixed all the concerns so we will just have to wait! however frustrating that may be! Woodym555 17:21, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
You may or may not have noticed but Aston Villa is now a FA! (A bot will update the talk page in due course) Well done and thanks for all your effort into the article. All part of Randy's revolution. I think i am going to turn my attention to the List of Aston Villa F.C. players now and try and make that comprehensive and then a list. At the moment if you have a look at that amazing website you showed me, there are many players who have more than 100 games but aren't listed on wikipedia! Another challenge for another day! Woodym555 08:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Nigel Reo-Coker

Hey, could you show me where its been stated that Nigel Reo-Coker will wear the number 8 shirt? Thanks, Mattythewhite 20:15, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Villa References

I see that you have changed the references again. Admittedly Chelsea F.C. does use that style but it din't when it passed its FA. If you go onto its talk page and check the article miletones banner. Click on the date and it shows you the version that passed FA. I think this style is all down to personal preference. All formats of referencing look different on different browsers. If any FA reviewers are unhappy with it then i will remove it, until then i can agree to leave it. Woodym555 13:07, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, just to ask if there is really any need for the History of Aston Villa page given that we currently have the History of Aston Villa (1874-1966) and History of Aston Villa (1967-Present). The history of Aston Villa page is just an outdated amalgamation of these two. I am asking you as you created it and are effectively the sole editor. Do we still need it? Woodym555 15:35, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Villa transfers

I can see how it may be useful, but only in the next month or so. After that it loses all meaning and relevance. Everton F.C. got its FA a while ago. I might suggest deletion on its talk page now as well! I think the FAC is a bit stagnant now, haven't seen any activity on it for a while, hoping it will go through soon! Woodym555 17:06, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Villa Articles

The managers list looks really good. I have added in Information correct... and also hidden text asking editors not to simply just add numbers on when the season starts again. It looks good, must have taken you a while to get the information together! Woodym555 16:04, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I think we now have to start cleaning up the subarticles, adding references, fixing WP:MOS issues. I think the History section is due for an overhaul, i know the headings created something of a furore last time they were changed though. I think the trouble with it at the moment is its prose and also the WP:NPOV problems along with weasel words. I think we have to start referencing this and the Villa Park article and aim for GA's for both. Woodym555 17:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
