Lewes Priory School entry

Please could you revert the Lewes Priory School entry BACK to what we changed it too. Students keep changing the entry, that is our official blurb, as shown in the comment. If this can not be done please just delete the entry as this is getting too much hassle.

Thank you

  • There is a proper place to discuss the article. It is at Talk:Lewes Priory School. Your edit, which I reverted, removed the stub notice and categories, put there by previous editors. This can be considered vandalism, and may lead to you being banned from editing. No one on wikipedia owns an article. They are built by the cooperative efforts of many users, and any user is entitled to edit an article, including your students (who may in fact give a more balanced view of the school than the official blurb). Disagreements are discussed in the articles' discussion page, so that a consensus can be reached. --Ezeu 10:09, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I started discussing it here as you were th eone to revert my revision and call it vandalism, but I can see that is a judgement call. If the categories and stub notices are incorrect and removed because of this then that is still vandalism? We own the image and information about the school though. Not to worry though. I'll investigate other avenues to remove.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.237.132.33 (talkcontribs) 11:15, 17 January 2006

Well done with the tabulations at List of explorers. Looking good.--Ezeu 15:01, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your encouragement, Ezeu!  Please grab a letter to make over should the fancy take you and time avail. In the meantime, do you know much about setting up Wikipedia tables?  I have a query prompted by tables elsewhere that I've asked here, but with no response. Perhaps there's a better place to ask, or what I'm asking is too obvious...
Best wishes and thanks again, David Kernow 18:38, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I will look at it shortly. --Ezeu 20:30, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
I dont think it will work. CSS styles do not allow for table-cell centering to be defined vertically by column.--Ezeu 01:08, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Darn. I thought it would either be something obvious, or not yet implemented. Looks like the latter. Thanks for the quick response. David 02:11, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

A follow-up query, if I may, since you're more au fait with tables than I: Is it possible to combine a cellpadding setting with class="wikitable"?  Thus far I haven't been able to do so. Thanks, David Kernow 00:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

your message

hello Ezeu,

absolutely, sorry I wasn't aware that tag existed as well, but yes of course it can be used instead. I just felt the article could be expanded because I am sure there are many more interesting things about Buganda, so thanks for pointing that tag to me. Hi Ezeu

Nice to see you are still supporting the Mandela website. It's amazing how many bad edits one encounters - and a lot of work to counteract them. All the best Swissjames

Wanyika

Well, Wanyika bands strikes me as a very odd and unnatural title. If this article is now and will remain a list, how about List of offshoots of Simba Wanyika? Or at least, list of Wanyika bands. I changed the dab page, so it should be better. Tuf-Kat 19:19, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I agree. list of Wanyika bands sounds good.--Ezeu 19:27, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Which users' talk page? I think you are refering to my reversal of your edit at Nelson Mandela and removal of your trolling at the talk page (I see here that you are prone to trolling). That Mandela was South Africa's first democratically elected president is fact. You asserting the opposite is POV.--Ezeu 00:56, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
No, I am not trolling, I am having a discussion. The fact is De Klerk and others were elected democratically. You are POV pushing by saying the others weren't elected democratically. 12.210.161.140 01:38, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
To clairify, I am not denying that he was the first elected by a fully enfranchised South Africa. But just because South Africa did not have a fully enfranchised population did not mean it was not a democracy. The same was true of most democratic nations in the 1700's and 1800's.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.210.161.140 (talkcontribs)

Contribution to Tanazania page

Hello,

I tried to add a link to the Tanzania page for an audio interview of a Tanzania resident. The interview is non-commercial, free, and discusses history, economy, culture and more.

My understanding of the Wiki history page is that you removed the link I inserted.

If you did remove the link can you please tell me why you feel you needed to remove it.

Thank you

Jordan—Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.78.84.195 (talkcontribs)

I removed it because I consider it to be spam. It is an interview with a non-notable person, and has little relevance to the article. --Ezeu 02:39, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for answering my question.

I don't think that an interview with a "non-notable" person is uninteresting or not of educational value; but I will accept that the interview is specifically about Pemba Island and not all of Tanzania (the subject of the wiki article).

This was my first experience interacting with someone about appropriate wiki content.

Thank you again for answering my question,

Jordan—Preceding unsigned comment added by Jrbrunger (talkcontribs)

God help us!

Oi mate,

I am rather distressed by what has happened to the Mandela page recently. I would never have thought that someone had the gall to challenge the FACT that Mandela was the firstly democratically elected president. Not only that, he has added this ugly POV badge at the top. What does one do in cases like this? Sit back and wait? Personally I do not care to debate with him anymore (he is beyond my help) but neither do I want to allow him to compromise the site.Swissjames 21:33, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

No need to debate with him as it will lead no where. Lets wait and see if we can get input from more people, and consensus against him. Otherwise we'll just have to settle with a compromise. Actually I added that POV badge with the intention of bringing more people to the talk page to challange him. --Ezeu 21:42, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello Ezeu, I'm quite surprised you removed almost all the links I put on the reggae web page yesterday. I've spent hours on searching reggae infos on the web (not only on Bob Marley) and believe me the links I've added are among the most relevant ones, and I'm not the only one to say so of course, see reggae litterature, and links on many websites. I must recognize that it may looks like personal webpages, and sometimes it is, but what is important: presentation or content ?

To be honest, I'm not sure you realize how important these websites are, much more than www.reggaephotos.de for instance ! Why keep this website when there are many other photographers websites...

Please if I'm wrong, explain me what the wikipedia policy on external link is and what are your motivation to keep or delete a link. If it is not a question of relevancy and utility of its content how can we appreciate a link ?

We disagreed once, and apparently you are still aggravated. It seems you have made it your destiny to mess things for me. How far will this vendetta go? You could find better use for your bitter dislike for me – like editing articles etc. Avoiding you has not helped me since you seem to be stalking me. My question to you is:

What do you want from me?

--Ezeu 08:04, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm not aggravated, you just identified yourself as a POV warrior who has trouble keeping things in perspective. I don't have a dislike for you at all, just the way you attack users and use a demeanor that is inappropriate for Wikipedia. I monitor the talk pages of all users with whom I have conversed the comment about "hate speech" caught my eye and I went to investigate. Sure enough I saw something that warranted attention. What I want from you is to see you become a contributing member to Wikipedia who no longer is uncivil towards other Wikipedians. OrangeMan 14:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
According to your list of contributions, many of your edits are intended to mess with me. It would be nice to see you actually contibute to an article for once, and not just chase me around. --Ezeu 15:41, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
No, actually you are wrong. You and I clashed on Nelson Mandela, and article on which you were POV pushing as determined by consensus. I brought the issue up and helped with the consensus opinion. That is far more contribution to an article than you slandering users because of their nationality or pushing POV. Now thank you, but I have no interest in continuing a conversation with a vandal such as yourself. OrangeMan 15:57, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to address you. Use your energy to help expand wikipedia, this vendetta is useless. --Ezeu 16:15, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
There is no vendetta, only your refusal to drop your attitude and treat users with respect. OrangeMan 16:21, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Good. I look forward to see you contibute. --Ezeu 16:28, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
A word which given your edits, I doubt you know the meaning of. OrangeMan 16:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Ghanaian Children's Writers

(Thanks for the disclaimer; Wikipedia is making me develop a thicker skin but the reassurance is lovely. *g*) As for your question, I'm not sure. i'm going through all the uncategorised writers in Category:Children's writers and sorting them by nationality if I have that information, and as I do I discover how many there are for each cat. For example, a couple of hours ago, there was no Category:Swedish children's writers; now there are four writers in it and I'm not done.

On the other hand, given that it's a pain to delete a category, this method -- though the easiest way for me to determine what categories are needed -- is arguably creating a pain in the butt further down the line when we need to delete the categories.

I could put Category:African children's writers under Category:African writers? Because I think I have one from Zimbabwe, one from Ghana, one from South Africa... I don't like lumping the continent together but maybe it makes sense. What do you think? Deborah-jl Talk 07:02, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

I am for lumping the continent together in some cases, however, not many people agree with me on that. Anyway, bearing in mind that wikipeida is not stagnant, and that there are certainly many African wríters of books for children, those categories are probably useful.--Ezeu 07:19, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Please Respond

I'm quite curious about the pervalence of racism, or lack thereof, in European nations. As a member of a visible minority in Canada (I'm half Gambian), I experience no notable racism, apart from the occassional, usually good-humoured stereotype. How is life for a member of a visible minority in Sweden? Are you ever slurred because of your race? Do you ever feel unwelcomed in your neighbourhood or town? Do you notice prejudice in the workplace?

I ask because a 1997 poll I recently found on the internet suggests that about 40% of Europeans declare themselves "very racist" or "just a little racist". Based on your experiences in Sweden, do you believe this poll is accurately representative of Swedish opinion?

I know I sound ignorant, but I'm just curious about racism in Europe. WGee 04:38, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Racism here in Sweden is not something that bothers me much. There is racism, but like everywhere else, it is subtle and institutionalized – the kind you kan overcome by having better grades, by doing a better job and keeping your mouth shut. As for polls and racism, both Norwegians and Danes have voted overwhelmingly for xenophobic right wing racist parties, but in Sweden these parties have always been marginalized. Racism and xenophobia exists, but it is not acceptable in public discourse. The latest party to try seriously, New Democracy, failed miserablely. The largest xenophobic party today are the Sweden Democrats, who have less than 1% support. --Ezeu 06:26, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Tom Lewis (songwriter)

I see that you proposed Tom Lewis for deletion as being "not notable." I'm not sure it is kosher for me to remove the tag since I created the article, but I would argue that Mr. Lewis is notable. I cite you to the following in WP:MUSIC, all of which are true of Mr. Lewis, and any one of which would render him "notable":

  • Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable). Borealis Recordings, in this case.

See also the qualifications for "performers outside of mass media traditions":

  • Has composed a number of melodies, tunes or standards used in a notable genre, or tradition or school within a notable genre. The notable genre being "folk music"-- specifically "maritime folk music." I should add that the "Midnight Special" radio show is a nationally-syndicated radio show dedicated to folk music, which has been broadcasting since the '50s.
  • Is frequently covered in publications devoted to a notable sub-culture. Various folk music publications including Dirty Linen.

No, I will not revert you (again?). You make it sound like I have reverted you several times. The article is about Bob Marley, and details about non prominent members of The Wailers seemed to be out of place. Anyway there are articles about The Wailers, Wailers Band, the I Threes, Aston Barrett, Carlton Barrett, Tosh, Braithwaite, Livingston etc. etc. – so you cannot really claim that they have been disregarded. --Ezeu 07:43, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Project Fubelt

About the changes you made in Project Fubelt. Look at this article about overlinking. You can repeat a link if it is not within one screen or 40 lines. So Schneider could be linked twice. Is there a general rule that says "articles already linked neednt be in 'see also' section"? I don't think so because that is done everywhere. In case you don't have any arguments I will add René Schneider in the see also section. Vints 09:32, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Bob Marley removal.

Hi Ezeu, I just wanted to discuss the removal of a part of the paragraph which I added to the Bob Marley page. You're reasoning was that it was 'personal opinion' on my part and therefore not suitable as an information resource. I have to disagree with this as the sentance in question is a reflection of the remarks made by Bunny Wailer, in that 'You can understand why Bunny wanted the records kept out of the public domain, as they represented a commercialisation of the Wailers music, and not the artistic progression which would lead to the 'Catch A Fire' sessions.'

Have you heard the 'JAD sessions' tunes, if so what do you think of them?, do you agree with Bunny?. If you haven't heard them, it might be wise to check them out. The info about the tunes and Bunnys comments came from Timothy Whites 'Catch A Fire' book, and I have the 7" demo in the photo.

I think these 'JAD' tunes may have come out on CDs but if you get stuck I'll fix you up with the two versions of 'Mellow Mood'. Just so you know though...I love both versions !!

All the best,  :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by M.Bramble (talkcontribs) 31 March 2006

Democratic Republic of the Congo

The part that caught my eye in particular was, "Elections currently planned for June 2005."
