Question from Walter's RfA

[edit]

I have no real opinion on the matter, but what a little confused about your oppose vote on Walter's RfA. You wrote, "Oppose - I'm nominating myself, because I would like to have access to the sysop functions of this Wiki. - Svest 03:57, 23 December 2005 (UTC) Wiki me up™ "

My question is, what is the point of quoting him here? How would that lead you to oppose? It just seems a little odd that that is your reasoning. Thanks. --LV (Dark Mark) 14:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- 18:13, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you about this again—not sure if you saw my previous message—but if you have time, you may wish to consider going to all the talk pages you left messages on recently and repairing the HTML, since it appears the example above was not the only time you didn't close the <DIV> tag. Hindu-Arabic numerals

[edit]

Hey Fayssal! Long time (I'd been on a wikibreak.) The voting started with the assumption that "Hindu-Arabic numerals" is the original title. We were denied an opening statement on that ground, which makes a major difference, since many people just read the opening statement and understandably don't bother with the discussion below the votes. This was accepted (even though I still thought it was *extremely* unfair) with the agreement that the article will be moved to "Arabic numerals" only if more than 60% voters favored that title. (see also User_talk:Deeptrivia#Opening_statement_of_WP:RM_.40_talk:Hindu-Arabic_numerals. Now, despite having 27 votes for "Hindu-Arabic numerals" and 17 for "Arabic numerals", I see no way how I can accept moving to "Arabic numerals" as fair. deeptrivia (talk) 07:17, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop abusing your admin rollback tools for non-vandalism, and reverting back to a blatantly POV version. --Mistress Selina Kyle (Α⇔Ω ¦ ⇒✉) 08:35, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
1) First section: There is no reason to say the second one is "evidence" when the first source is said to be "claimed": They're equally as valid. In fact if anything the one from Aisha herself is *more* valid, not less. It should be the other way around, but I made it NPOV as either are both claims that can't be totally proven.
2) Sexual relations with a 9 year old girl can only be described as paedophilia, there is no other word for it, unless you're going to use euphenisms from "the Childlove movement".
3) My addition: To the claim that she was post-pubescent at 9 years old: (although this is unheard of in medical terms, puberty usually ending around 15 years old - a 6 year difference) - is totally true. Read the puberty article. It's ridiculous to claim that someone could be post-pubescent at 9 years old to anyone with any medical experience.
3) "Liberal Muslims do not see any problem with saving Muhammad's character at the expense of factual content. Conservative Muslims, and the ulema, tend to embrace the "early puberty" theories."
As opposed to "at the expense of traditionalism" - Just as valid. --Mistress Selina Kyle (Α⇔Ω ¦ ⇒✉) 08:40, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WHAT"S YOUR PROBLEM WITH PODCAST?

[edit]

I signed up to keep jerks like you deleting wikis because you don't know anything about it. OOOH, you have edited 4000 wikis. Big deal. leave ours alone for "wehatetech." You don't like our show than go do something else. Go listen to TWIT and it's watered down content. Unsigned comments by User:Kmac1036

Maybe 3900 of them avoiding to reply to these kind of comments! Jerked at your place (not with caps). Cheers -- Wiki me up&#153;

Well, Ok, the "jerks" thing I think was taken too narrowly. I was reffering to all the people posting about the wiki to delete it for no reason, like yours. You need to spell out ant say what your problem with it is. That's all I ask. Just because you are an admin or something does not mean you should automatically pull more weight over those who really think the article should stay. If you don't like podcast wikis then say so. ~ kmac1036

I see that you added some new stuff (addendum) to your former comments. I am answering them here. I am an admin! So? What was the problem? I have the right to vote! Indeed, everybody can vote (including you as you already voted). That was what I did! I mean here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wehatetech. Wiki me up&#153;
Kmac1036! I appreciate your kindness! I am sorry that I can't respond to your talk page as I can't find it! Anyway, I am not sure if you are new to the place but I must tell you that I clearly stated that it is not notable and not referenced (with almost no google listing!. If you can't understand what that means than I am free! Cheers -- Szvest 05:00, 1 January 2006 (UTC) Wiki me up&#153;[reply]

Well, I don't understand how to link this stuff. "User_talk:Kmac1036" So it's there now. Sorry, four words still not enough explaination. Plus, Google page rank is NOT really a very good reason as such. I don't care what Google says anyway. I want to know what YOU say Sir. "Not notable" needs to be better defined as well.Kmac1036 05:23, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kmac! I like your persistance! Well, I am an admin and one of my duties is to guide people who are seeking advice or help. What I can do for you Kmac is to guide you to Wikipedia:Guide to deletion. You can also direct your comments at its talk page. If those pages wouldn't answer your quastions in detail than you'd have to blame me or else you can direct your concerns to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, if that couldn't answer your questions than I advise you to consult Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration. Other than that I can't help. Cheers -- Wiki me up&#153;
Yes, I am. "Dvyost" set my talk page please post there then so I don't clutter this one. So how are we suppose to get articles on here then through this research rule? If we can't post this about a reasonably popular podcast then I don't see what the purpose of this site is at all. Kmac1036 05:51, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for having the vote on "wehatetech" (no, not really, being sarcastic). So obviously someone does not like us here and they are not being honest. Think someone just reposted again and I am glad. This will probably happen until someone stands up, is honest, and tells everyone what the deal is! WHO IS THE MODERATOR THAT DECIDES TO DELETE ARTICLES AT WILL? FINE, AT LEAST STAND UP AND LET US ALL KNOW!!! Kmac1036 03:57, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think Kmac1036 that you haven't revised the policies through the links I provided and advised you to take a look at. But I think that answering your Caps stuff like WHO IS THE MODERATOR THAT DECIDES TO DELETE ARTICLES AT WILL? would help cool your mind. Unfortunately/fortunately (according how you see it). there is no MODERATOR! If there was any MODERATOR than obviously there would be no Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wehatetech at all. Please add this to the list of must read Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. It deals about the subject in question and think all questions are aanswered there. Does that make sense to you? Cheers -- Szvest 04:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC) Wiki me up&#153;[reply]

Reversion of "Dark Continent" entry.

[edit]

FayssalF,

I'm still trying to figure out the how the whole Wiki system works - slowly getting there.

I haven't registered yet- but thinking to do so.

I see you reverted my change to Africa. (cur) (last) 08:19, 1 January 2006 FayssalF m (Reverted edits by 202.63.40.179 (talk) to last version by 67.165.87.40)

I had the following:-

The expression "dark continent" portrayed the lack of European knowledge of the geography and conditions of the African continent interior in the 19th century.

I think some reference needs to be made to this alternative description for the following reasons.

1. Do a google search of "Dark Continent" - it is used a common alternative English name for Africa - esp. in titles of books, magazine articles, and in newspapers.

2. NPOV (Neutral Point Of View) is an official Wikipedia policy which states that articles should be written from a neutral point of view, representing all views fairly and without bias.

As this is an "English" Wiki entry, some reference should be made to this common alternative descriptive name to represent all views.

Perhaps I need to put this entry on the discussion page for debate? Or a separate dictionary type entry is needed?

regards,

~~JohnI~~

PS your entry had a (talk) link - did you say anything i can read? I'll check back here for your reply...

Hi John, thanks for the message. I reverted that as it is irrelevant to the intro. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Introduction you may read that intros are not the right places where to make additions like you did. It can be developed somewhere inside the article though.
The second reason is that those additions are considered personal essays or original researches (see Wikipedia:No original research). In my judgement, The expression "dark continent" portrayed the lack of European knowledge of the geography and conditions of the African continent interior in the 19th century. was an original research. In other words, who says that?! Us or a notable research, who? You may also be interested to read Wikipedia:Neutral point of view.

I found the following references, using a quick Google search:-

http://www.answers.com/topic/dark-continent http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Dark+Continent http://www.bartleby.com/61/96/D0029600.html Amazon.com: Death in the Dark Continent: Books: Peter H. Capstick Amazon.com: The Dark Continent : Europe's Twentieth Century (Borzoi Book): Books: Mark Mazower by Mark Mazower. The New York Review of Books: In the Dark Continent

This expression has become so pervasive in English, that it is now synonymous with the word "Africa" (in fact it is used in the place of the word Africa in the titles of three (3) books above) that is why I placed it in the heading. Agreed it may not be the correct place, though surely such a synonymous word should be placed close to the title!? I'm open to suggestions...

If you read my comments, my reasons were mainly about the form, style and olso about the references. I appreciate that you found some references and this is how Wiki works (to answer your question above). Now, you must find the context or an ideal place for the info and the references you have. The intro should only be a place for the generalities.
One more thing, open an account, it would take 1 minute so we can avoid this mess. You could at least sign. I received a message but I had to look throu history to get to know who wrote it and where on my talk page. Cheers -- Szvest 09:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you are interested in Africa-related topics. I am not sure if you've already heard about Wikipedia:Africa-related regional notice board and Wikipedia:African Collaboration of the Fortnight. Please, contact me in case you need any kind of guidance or help.
It would be better if you can get registered ;) Enjoy! Cheers -- Szvest 21:51, 1 January 2006 (UTC) Wiki me up&#153;[reply]

Blocking Users

[edit]

One would think the last thing a known Islamist who got admin props would do should be hunting down and blocking users based on Islamist topics.

And keep an eye on Yuber, he's violating terms of his RFAR by being a disruption and deleting the comments of others. I expect you to follow through on this or else be reported to AN/I for abusing your powers.

Also, Snakes is full of shit.

66.69.131.124 was the guy above. He is the same vandal --Snakes 00:00, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Fayssal. I have to say I disagree with your block of Snakes. He was doing nothing but reverting vandalism being done by an extremely persistent editor who has used 3 different IP addresses so far, and the IP's should be the ones that are being blocked. Yuber(talk) 00:09, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No Yuber. Wikipedia:Three revert rule is clear about the matter. Cheers -- Szvest 00:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What about the sockpuppet policy that is being trashed by Enviroknot? He has now started a section on AN/I calling you an admin out of control. Yuber(talk) 00:12, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not able to perform an IP check. You can see this with Jayjg or David Gerard. Re the AN/I, I must keep my self calm against personal attacks as I am not in the same position as the attacker as long as they are blocked. Cheers -- Szvest 00:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't about an IP check. It's an IP in the same range as the one you blocked who has just violated the 3RR again.Yuber(talk) 00:19, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see Yuber's now making personal attacks to add to his violations of his RFAR, including his sockpuppetry and his POV pushing. And no, I am not Enviroknot nor am I one of the other IP's.

My suggestion to you is to cool it and watch what you do. WP policy says to block ALL users involved in an edit war. Yuber's violated 3RR already now, as well as trying to game the system.

I don't care who you are. I only know that I have to block users who break the policy. -- Szvest 00:28, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum- Where do you see Yuber breaking the 3RR and also using PA? I must see that! -- Szvest 00:30, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am reporting your continued bad conduct on AN/I.

Been present before the judge!- Please use that link to continue your plight! -- Szvest 03:25, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The 66.69.13x.xxx IPs are obviously Enviroknot, as is the 66.246.246.254 account (a compromised server). The rest are not so clear. The article has been semi-protected for now, which should do the trick. Jayjg (talk) 01:02, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not. And I have nothing to do with 66.246.246.254.

How about signing your name so that when you accuse others of what you've been doing yourself there is some accountability. I have nothing to hide so I'll sign my username. I reverted after you reverted my work. And then another user reverted back to my work since clearly your changes aren't acceptable by not just me. There are at least 4 other wikipedians who think your edits are not at all feasible. The Spanish people are Germanic? 3. If it is true but you don't recommend moving it, would it be justified to at least make Mala'ika a redirect to Angels in Islam?

Izehar 19:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tu as répondu! Je pensais que cette discussion s'arrêterait si tu ne dis rien. Quoi qu'il en soit, je n'aime pas le discours grossier non plus, mais cela n'arrête pas des personnes en utilisant le. Quoi peut-on faire? Izehar 23:52, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Izehar 01:10, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
