Hello, I have a future plan that I want to talk about that I have in place for my personal Vital Articles sublist. I am certain that those kinds of matters are more your concern than that of most other Wikipedians due to your active involvement in the main VAs project... so that's why I decided to contact you about this issue.

Regarding the arts, recreation, and pop culture topics

It has somehow come to my attention that of all types of topics, the one that would require the most amount of attention would be those relating to the arts, recreation, and popular culture. Many have been the disputes faced by those involved in the official equivalent of the project in question, as a matter of fact, with regards to such topics. I have already finished two such sublists: one devoted to the basics of the arts, cultural venues, and fictional creations; and one devoted specifically to film. Both of those lists are in their finished state as of now, but there is still a lot of work to be done with all the rest.

Having said that, I have decided that beyond these, my vital articles list will include:

  • 510 articles relating to architecture;
  • 1,950 articles relating to literature;
  • 1,600 music articles;
  • 400 performing arts articles; and
  • 1,000 visual arts articles (with 50 extra articles added pertaining specifically to modern visual arts, outside of film).

Additionally, I have made the decision that television on my VAs list will not be grouped among Society and Social Sciences topics, as in the official VAs list, nor listed on the same exact page as the other Arts topics: rather, it will be assigned its own sublist (though it is grouped among Arts topics, not SocSci ones). What I have here, however, is nothing more than an exact duplicate of the official list, seeing as how there is a major conflict at the official VAs with regard to the vitality of TV topics. There have been many arguments in this regard, especially in relation to individual shows. The official list will have to be trimmed in order for me to be able to use it as a workpoint for my own list.

As I go on further about this, I will announce that recreation and entertainment (aside from sports) will be covered with a total of 1,060 entries in my VAs. That amounts to 80 articles about general entertainment and leisure; 100 recreation/tourism articles (with 60 covering amusement parks in particular), 130 articles about toys, and 720 articles about games (of which 435 or so will cover video games specifically). Taking that into account, I have planned for recreation to be listed separately from sports. How then am I supposed to handle this, if video games are more or less a secondary topic as far as the scope of human knowledge is concerned? Should I go even further and separate video games from all the rest of the recreation topics, since they are an art form as well as a form of recreation?

I also have plans in place to remove the four mass media agencies from the "Mass media and journalism" subsection in SocSci and move them to the "Companies" section of "Economics," allowing that sublist to list them among printing and publishing companies, alongside those involved in film, television, video game, and other entertainment production. This, however, would not be as called-for a measure as my decision to group Television (where famous anime are supposed to be listed) in the same category of sublists as Literature (where famous manga are supposed to be listed), seeing as how manga and anime are so significantly intertwined with each other).

My main PC (an HP all-in-one) is currently out of service with a defective touch-screen display panel that is in need of replacement. Once I get that computer back up and running again, I will use it to set back to work and carry out the orders of business outlined above. Thoughts and prayers

Please do not link every mention of thoughts and prayers to that article. The article is primarily about a US slacktivism controversy, so only uses about that subject should be linked. The article should really be named Thoughts and prayers controversy. I am going to go through and remove all those links leaving only the ones that apply. Our article on Thoughts and prayers is about the phrase. My links to thoughts and prayers are limited to situations where the words are uttered in response to deaths from disasters, accidents, terrorist acts, etc. Situations where the use of the phrase is notable. I would also argue that the phrase may not be familiar to readers who are not familiar with Christian traditions. The first thing people see when they click on the link is a protest sign that says "F*uk your thoughts and prayers". That is turns any page you linked into a covert attack page. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 14:39, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
I agree that the top image is provocative. I have swapped its position with another image in the article where the phrase is less obviously attacked. Although an image as illustration is useful for readers, I'd imagine finding an image of the phrase in a non-critical context would be difficult, given that it is usually spoken as opposed to in a visual form. feminist (+) 14:46, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Your lack of objectivity in this distresses me. You obviously are using Wikipedia to push political agendas. If there was not a controversy about the phrase the article would not exist and in fact did not exist until the controversy happen. It is not about the phrase in any sort of NPOV manner and you know it. Changing the image does not fix that. I see you have done a lot of editing on Wikipedia and I would think you would know better. Further input for NationBuilder?

Hi again. First of all, I want to thank you for your previous edits in response to my requests at NationBuilder. A few days ago, an editor placed an "Advert" tag above the notable use cases section. Would you be able to take another look to see if you agree or disagree that such a tag is appropriate? Perhaps you can either remove the tag if you think it was placed incorrectly, or make the necessary changes to the content so that the section no longer has any hint of advertising, which is something I, as a disclosed COI editor, did not intend to add. Congratulations! We now have a dab page that doesn't list most of the likely intended targets, and a set index page which stops people noticing that links are aimed at the wrong target. My rationale is that List of Liberal Democratic parties already contains all the specific political parties that were originally listed on Liberal Democrats (disambiguation), and hence the disambiguation page is mostly redundant to the set index. Those supporting the move pointed out that the maritime dock has existed (i.e. began existing in the past and continues to exist) for thousands of years - an assertion that is unlikely to be challenged - hence concluding that the topic is primary with respect to long-term significance (substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term). Under WP:PTOPIC, there is no requirement that a topic be primary with respect to both usage and long-term significance. Thank you for your detailed response. I do feel like our takeaways from the discussion and from these project pages are quite different. The dividing line in this RM wasn't between two groups, each of whom thought only one aspect of primary topics was important (that would have been odd: both aspects are always relevant, and we shouldn't disregard one of them simply because fewer people bothered to comment on it). What we have instead is one group who felt that one article had long-term significance (there was no acceptable evidence for that: as was already pointed out in the discussion, historical age is not determinative: WP:DPT). The other group similarly had a feeling, though in the opposite direction: no single topic having more significance, but that in turn matched the conclusively demonstrated fact that there was no primary topic with respect to usage. As the closing instructions point out, [c]onsensus is not determined by counting heads or counting votes, and closers should discount arguments that are based on personal opinion only. – Uanfala (talk) 15:59, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Based on my understanding of WP:PTOPIC, there is a difference between "historical age" and "long-term significance". The former refers merely to how old a topic is without regard for its significance, e.g. Anne Hathaway (wife of Shakespeare) has historical age but is not the primary topic for "Anne Hathaway". The latter applies to topics which have existed for a long time and have remained significant over its period of existence, e.g. Apple is the PTOPIC over Apple Inc. both because of its age and because it has remained significant throughout its existence. It is acceptable to justify that the maritime topic is the PTOPIC for "dock" on the basis that it has remained significant on a long-term basis; in contrast, if the reasoning were "it existed thousands of years ago", then that would be a weak argument based merely on historical age.
With regards to usage, no one supporting the move justified it on the basis of no single topic having more significance; instead, they either regarded the maritime topic as the PTOPIC on the basis that a reader is more likely to seek the maritime topic than all other topics combined, or regarded this as a situation where usage alone does not indicate a PTOPIC. As far as I can see, there is no single way to determine whether something is highly likely ... to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term, so I hesitate to agree that it is conclusively demonstrated ... that there was no primary topic with respect to usage.
In any case, WP:PTOPIC states that in many other cases, only one sense of primacy is relevant. In other words, it is acceptable to regard a topic as PTOPIC even if it meets only one aspect of PTOPIC. In the RM discussion, no editor suggested that some other topic other than the maritime topic may be the PTOPIC for "dock". Hence, if there is rough consensus in an RM discussion that a topic is primary with respect to long-term significance, the discussion can appropriately be closed as move.
Anyway, it seems to me that we are going back-and-forth over this discussion without much progress towards agreement, so I'll take this to move review and let other editors have a go at it. feminist (talk) Слава Україні! 18:37, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Just a note that when when there is a disambiguation page at the base title, then we have access to data that tells us exactly what readers want when they land on that page: that's the clickstream dataset, which is visualised by Wikinav. I am aware of this tool. It's not perfect because although it provides the source of incoming traffic (e.g. Google, Bing, etc.) it doesn't provide what the reader searched for in Google/Bing/other search engine. Because we don't know what the reader searched for to reach the WP article, we cannot always tell what the topic sought when a reader searches for that term is simply via clickstream data. Hence, web search results are still relevant to determining PTOPIC status with regards to usage (I prefer DuckDuckGo to minimize geographical differences). That venue is not the venue for reaching consensus on what articles should cover what topics, and more importantly, other participants were not aware that re-working articles (rather than redirect pointings regarding existing articles) was seriously being decided. I would have opposed such a proposal, as explained here by me and others, and anyway, it is more properly handled by a request to split. The current setup is the result of many discussions by many more editors than were present at the RfD. This does not necessitate altering the conclusion about where the redirects should point. Viatris stock index listings

Hi Feminist. I would like to discuss whether Viatris's Infobox should include the fact that the company is listed on the Russell 1000 Index and the NASDAQ Biotechnology Index, since you removed those indices on April 27. According to the documentation at Template:Infobox company, there seems to be no problem adding additional indices that the company is a component of: "Information about the company's status as a component of a major index can also be added." Other publicly traded companies list multiple indices when applicable, such as Vimeo, Gilead Sciences and Novavax. I hope you will reconsider your edit and add back the two indices to the Infobox. Hi PittGuy123ABC, most articles about publicly-traded American corporations contain listings of Dow Jones, S&P and Nasdaq-100 indices because these are generally considered the most significant stock market indices in the US based on usage and search interest. In my experience, only if a company is not included in any of these indices are they be listed as a component of less significant indices such as the Russell 1000 or 2000. Note MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE: keep in mind the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article ... The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance. Most (if not all) members of the S&P 500 are also members of the Russell 1000, making the latter designation redundant. As for the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index, I have rarely if ever seen it on other articles, and it does not appear to be a "major index" compared to the likes of DJIA and S&P 500. Chiang Mai

I'm curious why you created Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai/doc, which is rife with ParserFunction errors because there is no corresponding Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai. I see we do have Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai Province, which you have edited. The only reason this caught my eye is that I look at Category:ParserFunction errors from time to time. Hi Deor, I created Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai before realizing the existence of Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai Province. I have therefore nominated the former for speedy deletion under WP:G7 because it was redundant to the latter location map. Module:Location map/data/Thailand Chiang Mai/doc should have been deleted under WP:G8 which was not done; I have just nominated it for G8 speedy deletion. Temu flag fixes

Hi, I have posted Talk:Temu (company)#Request for more clean up and removing flag to ask for fixes to the page about Temu (company), the most downloaded app in the United States the last few months. [1] These tiny fixes address the last issues needed to remove the flag. . I have a conflict of interest as an employee of Temu and I would very much appreciate it if you might have time to take a look. Since you are a member of the WikiProject for Internet Culture, I thought you might possibly be interested in this internet cultural moment. [2], [3]. This page is in need of careful expansion in compliance with Wikipedia policy (and there is plenty of press coverage) but getting rid of the last tiny policy violations is a good place to start.

Hi Feminist, I hope you're doing well 😁 The chances are you don't remember me because back then my user name was different, but you gave me very helpful guidance and information after approving my first article about Grace Ho, and I never forgot it. You simplified things for me in a way where they made sense, which made me want to become more of an active editor on the project. I am happy to say now I have made over 2,000+ edits, 24 articles, and promoted one of my articles to GA status!
