Notability[edit]

Is it possible to find some more sources of information on this topic High Life Music? It is tagged with a notability tag, and there are currently 31 articles in the scope of wikiproject Canada which are tagged with notability concerns, so I am contacting all the article creation editors to see if the quantity of notable articles can be reduced, and quality increased. For more help see this note. SriMesh | talk 18:14, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to be difficult to find references, need to go a good few pages down Google search results. The "references" consist of music gala reports (such as http://www.lhebdojournal.com/article-191976-Gala-SOBA-Un-honneur-merite-pour-Sir-Pathetik.html), or negative critiques (such as http://www.simondor.com/blog/labels/Sir_Path=C3=A9tik.html), or concert movies (such as http://www.truveo.com/Sir-Path%C3%A9tik-MarieMoi-FrancoFolies-2007-2-Aout/id/3206715667 ), or regional news items for past and upcoming shows (such as http://www.info07.com/article-186827-Sir-Pathetik-nous-fait-plonger-dans-son-span-classT1iAquariumspan.html or http://www.lhebdojournal.com/article-i180284-Sir-Pathetik-au-sommet-de-son-art.html or http://barzenith.populus.org/rub/1 or http://www.urlso.qc.ca/administration/content/UserFiles/File/Bulletin%2008/communiqudepressepathtikcarnaval(2).doc?PHPSESSID=512c05a7959d8d8cfa09ba024b824691 or http://www.equipespectra.ca/communiques/francos/20070802.PDF, etc...). Do any of these (and similar ones for the other artists in the High Life Music label) constitute acceptable Wikipedia "references"? Hip-hop and rap are popular movements, and as such these artists and their label seems to be mostly active on myspace and movie download sites (see the truveo link above), how can Wikipedia assess the notability of such music labels and artists if only "conventional" paper references (newspapers, books, magazines, as per Wikipedia:SOURCES) are used to gauge notability? Help and further guidance please? Fgenolini (talk) 22:05, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability would mean that another source of information on the web or on paper attests to the importance of High Life Music.

This site, http://www.urlso.qc.ca/administration/content/UserFiles/File/Bulletin%2008/communiqudepressepathtikcarnaval(2).doc?PHPSESSID=512c05a7959d8d8cfa09ba024b824691 notes that Après plus de 40 spectacles au Québec, plus de 10,000 albums vendus et une nomination à l’Adisq en 2004, After 40 performances in Quebec, more than 10000 albums sold and an appointment at the Adisq in 2004 to account for the notability of Sir Pathétik and is one of the Artists supported by High Life Music. So as Sir Pathétik is becoming notable, so too, therefore, is High Life Music for those who wish to hear their artist and buy the compilation or CD or record.

This mention http://www.lhebdojournal.com/article-191976-Gala-SOBA-Un-honneur-merite-pour-Sir-Pathetik.html that the rapper Trifluvien Sir Pathétik was hip-hop artist of the year francophone. le rappeur Trifluvien Sir Pathétik a été sacré artiste hip-hop francophone de l'année at the Gala SOBA also shows merit to the urban Quebec culture .. Hip Hop Rap. High Life Music by signing and releasing music of Sir Pathétik shows the merit of urban Quebec culture and helps the audience receive the music by their compilations and releases.

Websites which list movies of the week aren't going to show the notability of this article when the movie finishes showing. Negative or positive critiques show some response to the label in the media. I too have noticed that myspace is being used quite a lot by new bands to place their presence online. However, notability needs reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject, that claim that the subject has done something worthy of notice..{ notability article quote).

Open a few articles from the category of Independent record labels for more ideas on how to present an article for notability. ATP Recordings shows use of an infobox... or Universal Music Group. I tried to find a GA or F article, but so far Wikipedia:WikiProject Business and Economics has no record distributor listed...nor Wikipedia:WikiProject Hip hop/Assessment Wikipedia:WikiProject Canadian music

I hope this is of some help. Ask also for help from B. Wolterding (talk) who is part of the Wikiproject on notability for guidelines, they first brought these articles to WP:Canadas attention... note Kind RegardsSriMesh | talk 00:11, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Harmony Assistant has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable software by redlink company. Search for sources found nothing; only sources in article are YouTube and forums.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I still do not understand the expression "Non-notable software by redlink company." In particular "by redlink company" is not a (UK) English known colloquialism or not even any kind of jargon that I might have come across before. Not even Google mentions this. However I can second guess that on Wikipedia all links to non existent pages appear as red, so maybe this is what you mean. However this makes no sense to me because a red link is supposed to be for notable subjects that have no page, whereas your - valid - argument is that this is an existing page for a non-notable subject. Non-notable as per Wikipedia:Notability (software) or Wikipedia:Notability (music) would have helped me more. Now that I have read both notability criteria, I fully agree that Harmony Assistant should not have its own Wikipedia page. Fgenolini (talk) 18:11, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
