Hi there. I noticed your addition to Edinburgh Gardens, Melbourne. You added some information in the middle of a quote from a document. Is this actually in the document? If not, is there another reliable source from which it can be verified? Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 18:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked and the information that I inserted re my great grandfather reserving the Gardens appears to have been removed. Why is that please? It looks as if you, like me, are a contributor so --Fitzylady (talk) 02:21, 26 December 2010 (UTC)why are you querying this information? I inserted this factual information many many months ago so why are you only querying it now? Maybe you have a hidden agenda?????[reply]

I am just a novice but am an authority on achievements of John McMahon, my gr.grandfather who was twice Mayor of Fitzroy and a councillor for seventeen years. In addition to obtaining the Gardens for the people of Fitzroy he initiated the extensive tree planting around the City of Fitzroy in the 1880s amongst many other things. He was also one of the 2 founders of the Fitzroy Football Club and chaired the first meeting to form that Club. Verification of these facts is contained in Table Talk Article (newspaper/magazine) printed by Brunswick Street press dated 1901, I think it was October.

Yarra City Council are fully aware of the contribution that John McMahon has made to the City of Fitzroy and have erected two plaques in his honour in that regard, osne on the Fitzroy Grandstand and the other in the Gardens themselves. As a historian I only deal in facts.

The article had a direct quote from a source. You added your information right in the middle of the quote. As I have no access to the source, I queried if this was done on purpose (i.e. the source includes your words verbatim) or by mistake. Surly, as a historian, you can see the importance of the integrity of sources. As I gather now it was done by mistake, I'm also sure you appreciate why it was removed. If you want to add the information again you are free to do so, properly, with a reliable source from which it can be verified. Happy holidays. --Muhandes (talk) 06:49, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
