Hello FockeWulf FW 190 (nice user name), and welcome to Wikipedia. Based on your edits, I think it'd be a good idea for you to check out the military history Wikiproject, a place where editors interested in Military history can ask each other questions and work together. I'm part of it myself (my interests are primarily naval history) and I think it's well worth joining. Howicus (talk) 02:01, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edit on TDL-4. Note however that you shouldn't delete citations just because the URL is dead; instead try to repair it. ··gracefool 💬 20:55, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your last edits

Hi! I reverted some of your last revisions, because these things are already present in the navbox in bottom of the article. So there's no reason to double it. Anyway thank you for your interest in editing these articles! --RezonansowyakaRezy (talk | contribs) 15:18, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of this you can consider to add a new item to the list in the navbox, it's right here: {{Hacking in the 1980s}}. For example: 1260 (computer virus), has been created in 1989, it can be included in this navbox, so I added it and included the navbox in the bottom of that article. --RezonansowyakaRezy (talk | contribs) 16:15, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I found a nice guideline on it – MOS:SEEALSO. It's a part of a Wikipedia's Manual of Style. There are many tips how to improve the Wikipedia and deal with articles issues. If you have any questions, just ask me! --RezonansowyakaRezy (talk | contribs) 16:28, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips Rezonansowy I really appreciate it. It will improve my editing . FockeWulf FW 190 (talk) 21:11, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely think it's worth doing. That said, I also definitely don't have time in the foreseeable future. If you led the charge, I'd probably join in.  :-) Risc64 (talk) 23:44, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Computer virus

Hello FockeWulf FW 190: Thank your for your contributions in Computer virus, that was a neat edit, did not focus on that, any way, I would like to make that article reach good article standards, I have done some improvements that makes it a B class article right now, can you please guide me on that? it's my first GA goal. 967Bytes (Contact) 17:51, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you liked my user name, and I hope you know what do I mean exactly by 967Bytes :) . As for the article, Yep, the article really needs some focused work, and that's why it will my first GA project in WP. This is the current structure first the definition then the content:

  1. Vulnerabilities and infection vectors
    1. Software bugs
    2. Social engineering and poor security practices
    3. Vulnerability of different operating systems to viruses
  1. Infection targets and replication techniques
    1. Resident vs. non-resident viruses
    2. Macro viruses
    3. Boot sector viruses
  1. Stealth strategies
    1. Read request intercepts
    2. Self-modification
      1. Encrypted viruses
      2. Polymorphic code
      3. Metamorphic code
  1. Countermeasures
    1. Antivirus software
    2. Recovery strategies and methods

      2. Operating system reinstallation
  1. Historical development
    1. Early academic work on self-replicating programs
    2. The first computer viruses
    3. Viruses and the Internet

OK so I suppose I should

  • redefine the computer virus, where I will make the shortest most effective definition then a full stop followed by important information and facts in the first section.
  • as for the structure (outline) it's most important for me to know what contents to write before starting the project, here is an outline draft:

the definition (shorted)

  1. Background (about overall computer/network security)
  2. Overview (overview of a virus/ reason for making viruses)
  3. History (Historical development)
    1. Early academic work on self-replicating programs
    2. The first computer viruses
    3. Viruses and the Internet
  1. Virus operation/function
    1. Virus parts
      1. Infection mechanism
      2. Trigger
      3. Pay load
    2. Virus life time
      1. Dormant phase
      2. Propagation phase
      3. Triggering phase
      4. Execution phase
    3. Virus challenges
      1. Performance challenges
        1. Code optimization
        2. Double-infection checking
      2. Antivirus challenges
  1. Virus classifications
    1. By target
      1. File infecter
        1. resident/Memory resident
        2. non resident/direct
          1. Overwriting virus
          2. Companion virus
          3. Parasitic infectors (Prepending, Appending)
      2. Boot sector Viruses
      3. Operating system virus
      4. Macro viruses
      5. Program/File Infecter
      6. Multipartite/multiple characteristics
    2. By infection mechanism/concealment strategy
      1. Encrypted/Armored virus
      2. Stealth virus
      3. Polymorphic virus
      4. Metamorphic virus
  1. challenges/Vulnerabilities and infection vectors
      1. Software bugs
      2. Social engineering and poor security practices
      3. Vulnerability of different operating systems to viruses
  1. Countermeasures
    1. prior infection
      1. Practices and policies (training & backup)

Great job noticing the "badware" in the article malware, I visited that website and was suspicious and was about to remove it, searched books about it and did not find any, though of good faith and left it there :D . 967Bytes (Contact) 18:07, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Computer virus wont be soon a featured article, it will take more time than I thought :/, English good/featured article standards are way too amazing ^_^, I have downloaded so far Kali Linux latest version and started making virus source codes in order to post it in the article, but the encrypted virus -in order to make stealth virus- consumes a huge amount of power for long time in order to encrypt the virus, it's rain season, and as a 100% dependable on solar power (after Saudi_Arabian-led_intervention_in_Yemen bombarded all electricity power plants to pro Houthi areas) I have to stick to eco friendly applications that does not consume CPU resource :D. any ways, I am reading those books I have downloaded, I think you noticed that by the references I used:

  1. Computer Network Security and Cyber Ethics - 4th Edition
  2. Computer Viruses - the gist of it - Erwin Calamer
  3. Guide to Computer Network Security 3rd Edition
  4. Hacking Bootcamp - How to Hack Computers, Basic Security and Penetration Testing - David Maxwell
  5. How to Hack Computers_ how to h - Joel Tope
  6. Computer Viruses for Dummies (ISBN - 0764574183)
  7. Computer Security Principles and Practice (2nd Edition)
  8. Computer Security Fundamentals 2nd ed. - W. (Chuck) Easttom (Pearson, 2012) BBS
  9. The Giant Black Book of Computer Viruses

can't ready them all, I just search every book for the topic I am writing on to use it as a reference, which seems they cover most of it so far. If you have any suggestion or any other good book to use please don't hesitate to post it's name here, and I will obtain it in some way :) 967Bytes (Contact) 11:46, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Mitnick comes to mind, his books may have some information on the social aspects of a computer virus.

I'm not sure if this helps FockeWulf FW 190 (talk) 15:25, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, FockeWulf.

I moved the list of attack tools you added to resource exhaustion attack to the above new article.

Thanks for the contribution. For what it's worth, though, it needed a lot of scrubbing. Specifically:

  • there were many grammar and spelling errors
  • you didn't always use full sentences
  • none of the references have any information other than URLs (they should have titles, website names, access dates, etc.)
    • this problem still exists, so it'd be great if you could add the additional info (there are third-party web apps that automate this)
  • some of the additions may not be notable
  • relevant terms weren't wikilinked

Best, Risc64 (talk) 03:08, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for improving the article and creating the list.

I appreciate feedback and see some things I need to improve on.

Also could some information be shared on where I may find the web applications for references?

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Mobile virus a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Edits to CloudFlare

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia, but please do not delete entire sections without giving a proper justification. There may certainly be good reasons to remove entire sections from articles, but doing so requires justification. Valid reasons for blanking sections include (but are not limited to):

Please note that I don't like it is NOT a valid reason for removing information from Wikipedia.

You may cite your reasons in the edit summary, or in the article's talk page if you need more room than the edit summary affords.

Thanks again,

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Mailinator, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. TJH2018talk 20:53, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Page hijacking, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hacker. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
For your work defending computer virus articles against the technical support scammers.

Since I locked them out of their favorite article, Koobface, they have been spreading to other virus articles. I protected Conficker just now. If you see another article that is getting targeted by the scammer, please leave me a note and I will semi-protect it. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:43, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting multiple edits

Just thought I'd let you know there are more efficient ways to revert multiple edits. You can go to the history page, click the timestamp of the last good revision, click the edit tab, enter an edit summary explaining your revert and then save your edit. Or to make it easier, you can use Twinkle or request rollback permission. nyuszika7h (talk) 13:59, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

Hi FockeWulf FW 190. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 16:03, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: semi-protect request

Re your message: Done times three. =) I also blocked the accounts involved with the spamming. I left the IPs unblocked as they are dynamic and no point blocking them now. I'm sure they will now move on to a different target. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 02:53, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mailinator

I've removed proposed deletion from the Mailinator article, as I believe the subject to be notable and improvement to be possible. I note that Spamgourmet and TrashMail also have their own articles and I think Mailinator is equally notable.

Merging all three services in to Disposable email address might make sense, but I think the best thing is to improve the article.

Declined speedy deletion nomination of Indoona

Hello FockeWulf FW 190. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Indoona as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because it is only for articles on real persons or groups, individual animals, organisations, web content and organised events. This article's topic is not within the ambit of that list. Adam9007 (talk) 22:37, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comparison of social networking software

To whom it might concern,

We had our social network software - mooSocial listed in the Comparison of social networking software page for a while now. We have been keeping it up to date as possible. We believe it is in the same categories with the products listed in this page. It came to our attention which you were doing cleanup of this page and removing our product listing. Could you please let me know why it was removed and if possible, what I should avoid to keep our listing from being removed in the future? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello, FockeWulf FW 190. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Comparison of BASIC dialects".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 18:52, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:List of tools for Denial-of-service attacks, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:36, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your speedy message

Hello! Thanks for the speedy notification. However your text say "you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".". There is no such button. Also the text is somewhat misleading, since it links "Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable." Speedy isn't about notability, it's about "credible claim of significance", which is basically a criterion about whether the thing actually exists or not. You may want to fix up your text, while I contest this speedy. Thanks! --grin 07:30, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
