Amazing Race

Hiya. Are you still up for playing? If so our first challenge has been posted at User:Shappy/Amazing Race Wikipedia/Matthewedwards and Garden. We have to either write two 5×expansion DYKs, or one WP:FL.

Do you have any preference as to which you'd rather do? An FL would be easier for me, I think, but I'm sure we can find some stubby articles to expand so I'm open to either. Matthewedwards :  Chat  05:47, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely. I'd be more willing to do the DYK thing (I have a few ideas already actually) so you can do the FL if you like (should be easier for you! :) ) Cheers,  PUBLIC GARDEN  12:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Public Garden (talkcontribs)
It's one or the other, as far as I know. We'd better get our skates on. From what I gather from User talk:Shappy/Amazing Race Wikipedia#Round 1, some people have already completed it, and we both have to work on the pages: "Do keep in mind that you do need to work together. ;) Meetare Shappy Cunkelfratz! 7:09 am, Today (UTC−7)" Matthewedwards :  Chat  16:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
They have to be five x expansions, rather than new pages. Have you seen any stubs around that might be worth doing up? Matthewedwards :  Chat  18:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Possibly. Let me have a play later today and I'll let you know how its panning out. Matthewedwards :  Chat  18:57, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Issue 27 - June 2009
"The only confusion was, I think we all thought they were women. Kim was obviously a woman, but they all had this shaved-headed, pretty, soft look. And there were lots of lesbian bands at the time, and we always got booked with them, so we just thought the Pixies were another, like maybe they were like angry divorcees or somthing that formed a band.'" - Kristin Hersh

Wiki Cup Country

Hi,

Can I use a nation that has gone, or a flag that was for nations that still exist (i.e. GB - England, Scotland, Wales flag of 1606)?

Hi Garden. I just wanted to thank you for contributing to my RfA. It wasn't one of the best RfA's held, but I've learned a lot from the experience. Sorry for sending you the message today, and not last week when my RfA was closed. I've been very busy the last time. Thanks once again! Kind regards, LouriePieterse 10:21, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Straw poll on reliable sources for Eurovision articles

The second RfC on sourcing for Eurovision articles has now being running for several weeks, you can view it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on reliable sources for Eurovision articles. In order to help gauge the spread of opinion and draw conclusions from this discussion a straw poll has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Straw poll. All project members are encouraged to read the RfC thoroughly and then cast their votes as they see fit. Rationales are still encouraged in the main discussion area above the poll, and participants can add appropriate new sources or options to the poll as they wish. Feel free to weigh in on the "the band is/are" discussion. I'm pretty sure BrEng always uses plural for everything. NME, BBC etc. do it. Rafablu88 23:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

WikiCup participates in the Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew talk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Ismael Mathay Sr. High School

As an administrator, I thought you might be able to guide me with a couple of problems I feel this page has:

  1. The transformation - I feel that this paragraph needs to be sorted out, but not sure which is the best option:
    1. Removed entirely (but probably not, as obviously an editor thought it was important enough to warrent a section)
    2. Merged into the previous section
    3. Expanded, using the cited resource
  2. Notable alumni - is it me, or should the fact that *none* of these have a wikipedia article make them non-notable for anyone outside of the school's alumni association or the local area? I have looked up all of them, hoping to find wiki links, but none of them are there. What is wikipedia's position on this? Should they remain even though they are not notable?

The rest of the article is good from what I can see (I could probably add a couple of links such as to President Marcos, etc, but nothing majorly wrong with it).

Thanks PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:52, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

WP:NODRAMA reminder

Thanks for signing up for the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Wikipedia stands to benefit from the improvements in the article space as a result of this campaign. This is a double reminder. First, the campaign begins on July 18, 2009 at 00:00 (UTC). Second, please remember to log any articles you have worked on during the campaign at Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout/Log. Anniversary

Occurs one year after an event (making a nonsense of "one month anniversary"), this year's UK Big Brother is occurring nine years after the first Big Brother, not ten. Next year will be the tenth anniversary, this year is just BB10. It is a common error, see WrestleMania XXV (which confused 25 years with a 25th anniversary). You are not one year old the day you are born, your first birthday celebrates the anniversary of your birth. Darrenhusted (talk) 22:00, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Keith Getty

On May 26, you moved the page List of songs by Keith Getty to Keith Getty discography. Please note in the history on this page that this change was made once before by an administrator and was reversed because the page belongs to Category:Lists of songs by authors and performers. This is not a discography for the following reasons: (1) it is a list of songs in alphabetical order, not chronologically by album, (2) the actual discography is on the main Keith Getty page, (3) as a list of songs, it can potentially contain material that has not been recorded, and (4) it clearly does not fit the discography format, as you have noted. I have temporarily moved the page to List of Songs by Keith Getty, but you will need to move it to List of songs by Keith Getty and delete the Keith Getty discography redirect page. Thank you for making WP:NODRAMA a success!

Thank you again for your support of the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Preliminary states indicate that 129 new articles were created, 203 other articles were improved, and 183 images were uploaded. Additionally, 41 articles were nominated for DYK, of which at least 2 have already been promoted. There are currently also 8 articles up for GA status and 3 up for FA/FL status. Though the campaign is technically over, please continue to update the log page at WP:NODRAMA/L with any articles which you worked during the campaign, and also to note any that receive commendation, such as DYK, GA or FA status. You may find the following links helpful in nominating your work:

  • T:TDYK for Did You Know nominations
  • WP:GAC for Good Article nominations
  • WP:FAC for Featured Article nominations
  • WP:FLC for Featured List nominations
  • WP:FPC for Featured Picture nominations

Again, thank you for making this event a success! --Jayron32.talk.say no to drama 02:08, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Still adopting?

Sorry to trouble you!
As you can see on my page, ive been looking for an adopter to mentor me to develop my skills and contribute more significantly to the Wiki cause. I stuck my name down on the list for adoption, but as you can probably expect, there is a backlog and it might be a while before someone offers adoption...
...So anyway I pluck up the courage to find myself an adopter, and came across yourself. Are you still adopting? I noticed your name (or, rather, your old name) on the list and thought that you might be the best person to help me with my current projects, whilst helping me out with Wiki policy aspects (AfD etc etc etc). And, hey, I can also regale you with airport/travel stories. Not much of a music person though, though cant complain about your tastes...
Hope to hear from you soon, one way or the other MacarismTalk 11:46, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

When You'll Be Back from Denmark

Hello, Garden! How are you?

When will you get back from Denmark? Ericthebrainiac (talk) 20:05, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

So...

I've FTCed it. Have a look to see if I've done it properly and then put in your two cents obviously. Rafablu88 22:32, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to pedants paradise. Don't think we're getting the FT. I've got a template ready for the remix albums if need be. If you want to help then follow:
  1. Conception and Promotion (one paragraph who they got to do it and maybe why (i.e. a favourite band, similar genre, a tour buddy, etc.) and one paragraph how they promoted it (touring, news releases like usual))
  2. Critical reviews like usual (two para, one good one bad)
  3. Composition (do your usual biz here)
  4. The rest like Intimacy, which is smaller. (Two para. lead etc.)

Also create a link dump on the talk page for me if you can. Rafablu88 01:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

So, I think we should merge Two More Years EP into Silent Alarm Remixed. Write down what you think: Talk:Two_More_Years_EP Rafablu88 17:45, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Random unsettling question: Do we need a Personnel section?? Surely the track listing gives it... Rafablu88 22:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey, if you don't mind, I wanted to leave up the current info for at least about a day. Tomorrow night, we can worry about moving things to the right places, and all that. iMatthew talk at 00:30, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I think I got everything. Tomorrow, do you think you can write the "From the judges" section of the newsletter, then send it off? (It's newsletter 27, BTW) -- Include a note about the change in Round 4 (now it ends Oct 31). iMatthew talk at 01:22, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
