Thank you

Just wanted to drop by to say thank you for taking the time to review Rastafari at GAN. It was a long article but I appreciate your attention with it and I definitely think it's in tighter shape since the review. All the best, Midnightblueowl (talk) 08:08, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Plot/Premise?

Hello. I've seen in "All Over The Town" that you've changed the "Plot" heading to "Premise". Isn't the more usual term in these circumstances 'plot summary' or 'synopsis', particularly for something beyond one sentence, with 'premise' more often being used in the context of an argument or a debate? And when does a "Premise" become a "Plot"? I note that the term 'premise' is not mentioned in WP:FILMPLOT. Just curious. Blurryman (talk) 18:43, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

I'm not sure this warrants rev-del, while there is no doubt it was copied verbatim it was sourced and looks to me to be not much more than a dictionary definition and didn't constitute either an excessive part of the article or an excessive amount of the source book. Nthep (talk) 12:44, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Similarly The Mismeasure of Desire, using short summaries from a source especially where you have sourced falls under the US definition of "fair-use".
This doesn't mean I think you were wrong to tag either of these articles as asking for a second opinion when there is doubt is always a good option but I thought it only polite to explain why I don't think it's applicable to use rev-del in these cases.
Hello, Nthep. I preferred to err on the side of caution. If anyone ever mentions copyright issues at either article I will refer them to your comments. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 19:39, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Freeknowledgecreator, please have this review page deleted. The proper thing to do is to move the pre-existing review page to the new article name after the article is moved, since the review had already begun there. After you nominate Talk:Yoga in the United States/GA1 for a speedy deletion using a G7, we can move the already existing review at Talk:Yoga in America/GA1 into its spot. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:26, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Very well. I will note the contents of the page below so that I can re-add them as necessary. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 03:28, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Chiswick Chap. Thanks for noting the new article nomination brought about by the renaming of the article. Like I said, there may be a short delay of a day or so before I can make more comments. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 17:36, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Note: I am not completely sure talk page transclusion is working, or how to fix it if it isn't working. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 03:07, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

I would give the following as an example of a statement that needs to be rewritten: "But the United States was starting to think about its relationship to eastern philosophy." That makes no sense taken literally. A country, as distinct from people within that country, does not "think about its relationship" to something. The statement needs to be rewritten to better convey the underlying meaning. More comprehensive comments about the article soon. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 03:23, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. Replies over there. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:12, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:12, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at David Horowitz shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
You're welcome to attempt to get consensus to remove the source - but you're not welcome to edit-war to remove it. There is no BLP violation here - SPLC is a widely-accepted reliable source. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 23:48, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. For future reference, I can count. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 23:52, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Strange revert

[1] This wholesale revert is silly. If you don't like the parameter order, then change it, but there's no defense for throwing out the entire Smith ref and direct link to Steven Best. I see that the Karen Field was a duplicate, though, so no worries on that. (not watching, please {{ping}}) czar 22:40, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to HIV/AIDS denialism, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hello, Spyder212. Your message above is condescending and unwanted. I reserve the right to revert edits I do not consider constructive improvements. You are free to disagree with my edits if you wish, but please don't template me for routine disagreements, as it accomplishes nothing. Essentially it is just a very rude way of disagreeing. Thanks re: Heidegger

Thank you for sticking with the Heidegger article and being a voice of reason amid all that butchery. As my tone probably indicated on the talk page, I've lost my patience with the situation. When editors start not only using but defending principles of composition that I've been trained to teach college students not to use, I need to excuse myself from the situation; but your persistence is noted and appreciated. CCS81 (talk) 05:06, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, CCS81. If you still have criticisms concerning how the article describes Heidegger's philosophy, please present them on its talk page. That would be very helpful. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 05:26, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Notice

The file File:The Society of the Spectacle (original French edition).jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings".  :) BOZ (talk) 21:44, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi Freeknowledgecreator, I noticed you have reverted the IP bloating the article a couple times or so. I requested page protection but Newslinger declined because this issue is broader as they have been disruptive across several articles. Newslinger provided the range, 2600:2B00:8D32:6500:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), along placing notices on their last address. The recommendation is to take it to ANI if it continues. Their last edit was after the notices and they did not bloat the article again or make any other edit so I hope this resolves it but just in case, thought I would share the information with you as well. Hello there, your revert of the Winnicott section on Jung is uniquely unjustified in the context of the history of psychoanalysis, and here is why: Winnicott was a preeminent specialist in childhood development both as a paediatrician and as a Kleinian psychoanalyst. His observations on Jung's early years in the first 3 chapters of MDR, known to have been written by him (as opposed to the rest which was cobbled together by his secretary, Aniela Jaffé under his reluctant supervision), are of immense interest in the light of the subsequent developments and rifts in the psychoanalytic movement. Actually, I am staggered by your apparently uninformed rationale for the move. I am therefore going to undo your revert. Regards and Season's greetings.--Po Mieczu (talk) 13:58, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

No, my revert was entirely justified. The Jung article does not need an entire section about the opinions about Jung expressed by one particular person. I do not care how much you like Donald Winnicott or how important you think he is. Your suggestion that the rationale for my revert was "apparently uninformed" is insulting; it was a sensible revert that follows WP:PROPORTION. I would suggest working the material into an already existing section. It patently does not deserve a section unto itself. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 14:15, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
You don't care whether I'm a fan of Winnicott, which is quite immaterial anyway, but historically his opinion is material. As an editing conflict is not very constructive, have it your way. Cheers. --Po Mieczu (talk) 14:24, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
WP:PROPORTION: "An article should not give undue weight to minor aspects of its subject, but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight proportional to its treatment in the body of reliable, published material on the subject." It obviously is not the case that "reliable, published material" on Jung shows that the opinions of Donald Winnicott on Jung are of such importance that they deserve a dedicated section of the article. If the material is of importance then place it somewhere in an existing section. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 14:27, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

The article Philosophical Essays on Freud you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Philosophical Essays on Freud for issues which need to be addressed. The Positronic Man

I'm not a big contributor and I don't know how everything works here, so instead of editing the page to delete the massive spoiler in the introduction, I left a note on the discussion page. I guess no one saw it or cared, so months later I deleted it myself. I'm not sure why you reverted it, but it really is a spoiler and belongs in the plot summary, not the intro. I'm sorry if this is not the way things are done. I'm just trying to help make Wikipedia a tiny bit better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RZero79 (talkcontribs) 08:33, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

I have not edited the article you mention in a long time and have no idea what you are talking about. However, since you mention spoilers, it might help to review WP:SPOILER, which states, "Spoilers are no different from any other content and should not be deleted solely because they are spoilers." Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 10:16, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

Okay. I clicked on the name next to "Reverted by". My mistake. And I didn't say anything about deleting a spoiler solely because it's a spoiler. It belongs in the plot summery. It's the resolution to the entire plot. I may not know protocol, but I know what content is customary and expected. I've read thousands and thousands of articles. If you didn't change it, I'm sorry I bothered you. I don't know what else to do now but leave it wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:E041:14E0:C466:7763:4614:DCE6 (talk) 07:10, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

A cup of tea!

Hi Freeknowledgecreator, I feel like we may have gotten off on the wrong foot at the GA review. I wanted to try and work that out, so I've brought you some tea! Despite my criticisms, I do think the article Philosophical Essays on Freud is close to passing, and I do enjoy it. I don't want this review to be adversarial because my goal is always to improve the article; I don't like failing nominations. I agree with you that simply "telling [you] to produce something better is hardly fair" without giving more concrete suggestions, so thank you for saying that. I will try to be more precise with suggestions, and hope you'll be open to them so that we can work together to improve the article. I usually try to include positive comments alongside my critiques to avoid demoralizing the writer and forgot to do so in this case, so I apologize. Perhaps you found me too harsh and got defensive and that's my fault. I'm going to take a step back and think about your most recent responses so that I can reply with a clearer head. I'm looking forward to working with you more on this review! Wug·a·po·des 01:03, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Wugapodes. The review is obviously a shipwreck. Unless you choose to completely change your mind about some of the criticisms you have made of the article, which seems unlikely and is in any case beyond my control, it will certainly be failed. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 06:54, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

The article Philosophical Essays on Freud you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Philosophical Essays on Freud for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Wugapodes -- Wugapodes (talk) 00:41, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, Wugapodes. I think that you provided a fair review and that it helped improve the article significantly. I'm sorry if my comments during the review were a little abrasive. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 00:43, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

Ayaan Hirsi Ali page revert

Hi,

I saw that you reverted my edits without explanation. I have explained the reason for my edits so I'd like to figure how we go forward at this point. I think the current intro does not reflect accurately on Ayaan Hirsi Ali's controversial (to say the least) views on Islam that have been qualified as anti-Muslim by various advocacy groups and civil rights organizations. Louis Farrakhan's page on the other hand notes the SLPC's designation of his organization in the very first sentence.

The SLPC (Southern Poverty Law Center) describes Ayaan Hirsi Ali as a prominent figure in the anti-Muslim hate movement (https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2018/02/05/maine-state-rep-sirocki-seeks-support-anti-muslim-hate-group-fgm-bill). This is important information that should be noted right in the intro rather than buried later on under "controversies".

Please advise on how this matter should be resolved. Thank you.

south Otago

Hi - just to point out that the article South Otago does not have any references, and it is highly questionable that you should base additions to Wikipedia based on Wikipedia itself, particularly on completely unreferenced articles. Andrewgprout (talk) 19:13, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Andrewgprout. Yes, the article South Otago may be devoid of references; I am nevertheless pretty sure that "South Otago" is an actual thing, which means that "South Otago", and not "south Otago", is the correct spelling to use at Christchurch mosque shootings. If you think that "South Otago" is not real and someone made it up as a hoax, then nominate the South Otago article for deletion and see what happens. Homosexuality

Start here and then look for more recent sources citing it. In brief, it's a stereotype that was once widely promulgated by psychologists, but has never had a solid basis in evidence. Someguy1221 (talk) 03:38, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Someguy1221. I'm not 100% sure what your comment is in relation to, but presumably it concerns the question I asked at the reference desk that got censored, something I argued about at Wikipedia talk:Reference desk? Thanks for your comment. It's the closest thing to a rational response I've received thus far. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 03:42, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

I think we must have different ideas about what {{cleanup rewrite}} implies – to me it suggests the article needs to be WP:DYNAMITEd, or something approaching that level, which I'm glad you agree didn't apply in this case. Either way, thanks for your work on the article – it seems like an interesting text and Brown was certainly an interesting thinker. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 11:57, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Jean-Paul Sartre

If you read that paragraph, the first sentence ("Sartre attacked what he saw as abuses of freedom and human rights by the Soviet Union") is contradictory with the subsequent ones: the first part states he "attacked abuses of freedom" but the next two demonstrate quite an opposite attitude of him justifying and whitewashing abuse. That's why I added the "citation needed" template to indicate that the statement is contradictory with what the reference seems to be saying and a quote from the original source would be welcome. April 2020

Information icon Hello, I'm CaroleHenson. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Talk:Freud and Philosophy/GA2 that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please stop making uncivil comments. They are rude and disrespectful - and unnecessary now that we are parting ways on the GA review.CaroleHenson (talk) 03:30, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

I did not personally attack you and you had no business removing my comments. The comment in question is, "I do not suggest that your review is incompetent because you asked for a second opinion. Asking for a second opinion was perfectly sensible. I suggest that your review is incompetent because you have shown a failure to understand perfectly simple statements in the article, wrongly called them unclear, and suggested that I make changes that would simply be factually wrong. All of which I say in a spirit of honesty and not to be mean. The problem is not that I am "too upset to even take in good faith suggestions"; the problem is that your suggestions are useless or objectively mistaken." It is blunt and frank, and probably quite tactless, but it is not a personal attack. In so many cases, you were proposing changes that were garbled and inaccurate, and I, not wanting the article's quality to be undermined or article content to be distorted, was left with the sorry task of trying to explain to you that your proposals were garbled and inaccurate. I can see that you would not take to this very kindly. Your review of the article was a waste of your time and mine. When the article was failed the first time, the fail gave me good reason to rewrite and improve the article. Your failing it a second time, in contrast, has no such salutary effect. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 05:59, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
In case you have any further interest in helping to improve the article, I have left some further helpful comments on the article's talk page. They respond to points you made in the review. I've tried to explain as well as I can why several of your comments during the review were inaccurate. Probably I should have been quicker to point out to you during the review how confused you were, rather than let a single one of your distorted comments go without response. No reason I should put up with nonsense from a reviewer. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 20:00, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Chin up

I can claim no more than amateur status in the field of philosophy, with a curiosity and interest only occasionally present. I have to say, that I had zero problems in penetrating the Ricœur book article, and made my way through it rather effortlessly. A fascinating read, beautifully presented & written. Keep up the free knowledge creation and don't let the bastards grindya down. Eisfbnore (会話) 10:14, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Reparative Therapy of Male Homosexuality article

You (correctly) reverted an edit I had made, with the note: "Thank you, but that section already explicitly noted that Aviles says that conversion therapy is pseudoscientific. Your addition simply means that now her view is mentioned twice over. That is not necessary." You are absolutely right. I missed that sentence. I apologize for the inconvenience.   - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 23:07, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

For the record, if you use images and captions in a manner that editorializes the material again, even indirectly, you will most likely be sanctioned. So please be more judicious with such usage from now on. The image/caption being, as you keep saying, "perfectly correct" (in a limited, insular way) does not negate from that issue, and does not provide you with a license to otherwise contravene policy. El_C 01:18, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

I did not editorialize. Your claim that I did is an error of judgment on your part, in my view. If you want to claim that a statement that you yourself admit is factually completely correct is editorializing then we shall see how the larger Wikipedia community responds to that. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 01:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Again, it being "correct" in a limited, insular way, does not negate from it also being also serving to editorialize on a larger context. Yes, if sanctioned, you will have the right of appeal, of course. And otherwise, indeed, we can see if there are other views in the ongoing report. In the meantime, please heed my warning above. El_C 01:26, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
A correct statement is a correct statement. The accusation of editorializing "on a larger context" is your unsupported claim. I think it is going to be obvious to the larger Wikipedia community, even if not to you, that it is unsupported. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 01:28, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Sometimes a cigar is not just a cigar. But I acknowledge your view, even though my assessment is that it is in error. El_C 01:32, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Please stop making pointless comments on my talk page. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 01:34, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
What is "pointless," Freeknowledgecreator, I am finding, is your inability to be receptive to input which differ from your own view (another example). El_C 07:43, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Black Athena

I don't know whether this was a joke or a slip of the finger [2]. I have reverted it. Sweet6970 (talk) 21:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Sweet6970. I do not make joke edits. I believe the information I added was correct. You have provided no evidence that it is not. See here, where "Rutland Local History & Record Society" is indeed given as the publisher of the first (1987) edition of Black Athena. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 23:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
When I searched for the book on Amazon I got this:[3] which shows it as being published by Rutgers University Press. This is also what is shown under ‘Editions’ in the Black Athena article. I think the reference to Rutland Local History & Record Society in your link must be a mistake. Sweet6970 (talk) 09:50, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
@Sweet6970: You mean the Amazon page for the 2019 reprint? Here is the Amazon entry for the 1987 edition. Ian.thomson (talk) 11:05, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Black Athena does not appear as a publication on the website of Rutland Local History & Record Society. [4] You can see that the publications of this society are related to the local history of Rutland, as you would expect. It is inherently implausible that a controversial book about the racial politics of ancient history written by an academic at an American university should be published by the local history society of a small county in England. Sweet6970 (talk) 12:45, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi. I see your point, but there is no evidence that page is meant to be a complete list of absolutely every publication ever made by the Rutland Local History & Record Society. It may be surprising that Rutland Local History & Record Society would have published the first edition of Black Athena, but that is nonetheless what Amazon.com indicates. It might help to look up other relevant bibliographies or library records and see what they say about it. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 13:42, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
How about this? [5] But I think it’s time to take this discussion to the Talk page of the article, to get input from other editors. Sweet6970 (talk) 18:58, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I'll accept that, since I suspect Open Library is more reliable than Amazon. Consider the disagreement resolved. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 23:18, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your cooperation. Sweet6970 (talk) 09:09, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:41, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
