Formal COI warning[edit]

Information icon Hello, FriendlyBillingsgate. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Jytdog (talk) 03:23, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removed personal attack[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jytdog. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Jytdog (talk) 22:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, FriendlyBillingsgate. Thanks for popping into the discussion at the noticeboard. While I was glad to hear from you, I removed your content, as it violated our policy on no personal attacks. I don't know who sent the tweet that InedibleHulk linked to, but who ever sent that, it was indeed way, way out of bounds per WP:MEATPUPPET, WP:CANVASS, and a bunch of other things. Not what we do here. And to be frank, the mostly likely folks to send it are one of you three. So Indelible's remark was not unfounded. I am sorry that you have found him or her to be difficult. Some experienced editors take more time to try to explain things, others have more patience, and it varies over time (I can be too harsh sometimes myself). As I wrote at COIN, I totally understand your initial reaction to the Wikipedia articles, were ludicrously white washed. I work hard to keep conflict of interest from wrecking WP, and I am glad that you and your wife brought it to the attention of the community at COIN. That was great. I will work to get the articles cleaned up, keeping the negative stuff - it will not be whitewashed away. In any case, I am glad that you are hopeful that the Ombudsman stuff will get cleaned up. I will do my best. Sorry you had such a difficult introduction to WP - it always hard when you jump feet first into a firefight! Jytdog (talk) 22:20, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
