January 2024[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Hello Harry,
My name is J. David McChesney, and I am the new publisher (hired in June 2023...just getting to the wiki page that was reported to have some outdate info) of The Frontiersman, Wasilla, AK.
It looks like you've blocked me from editing the paper's (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mat-Su_Valley_Frontiersman&action=edit) wiki page. I understand why, but I actually do represent the paper.
You'll see me listed at: https://www.frontiersman.com/site/about/staff_directory/ .
You can see the announcement of my hiring at: https://wickcommunications.com/2023/06/mcchesney-joins-alaska-properties-as-publisher/ .
I am hoping you'll unblock me, or that you'll reach out to me to verify my details. Let me know what you need from me to clear up this issue. The paper is in for some wonderful changes this year, and I am hoping to reflect those on our wiki page!
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
J. David McChesney

Information icon Hello, Frontiersmanpublisher. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Rehsarb (talk) 21:31, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
As of June 2023, I am the publisher of the newspaper company being written about/page edited. One of the updates was to post that I am now the publisher.
As noted in the response above, you can find my information on both the company website and our corporate headquarters website. If you email me I can respond. Or you're free to call the paper, too, to verify my identity.
I hope this helps in unblocking my ability to edit The Frontiersman's wiki page.
Thank you.

If you re-read the notice above, you'll see that the problem was your account's username. Usernames on Wikipedia may not indicate that an account represents an organisation, group, company or website. You can get your account unblocked if you follow the instructions in that notice and request a new username. Please don't edit while logged out while your account is banned, though. Doing so may be considered block evasion. Even though your account is banned, it is still able to edit this talk page, so there's no need to be logged out. After that, though, please very carefully read the Conflict of Interest guideline.
If you are the publisher of the newspaper, you have a conflict of interest relating to it. This means that you are required to declare the relationship that you have, and you are very strongly discouraged from editing the article yourself. Instead, it's best if you request edits on the article's talk page, and then other users can make them.
Either way, everything on Wikipedia must be reliably sourced and verifiable. Any changes or additions to the article would need to be cited to back up the information. "I know because I am the publisher" would not be sufficient as a citation.
