Question from RI-spaceman (11:53, 21 October 2023)[edit]

Hello and thanks for mentoring. I am joining primarily to correct an error on my Wiki page. They have me as dead; died on October 13, 2023. I am not dead, and the error is sweeping through the social networks and causing problems and concern. Obviously, no one verified the "fact" that I am deceased, because I am not. What can I do to make the correction faster than waiting a few weeks? --RI-spaceman (talk) 11:53, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@RI-spaceman, welcome to Wikipedia! Could you please link to the article in question? Thanks, Frostly (talk) 19:37, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you Google Sherwood spring, the wiki page that comes up has me dead as of Oct 13 this year RI-spaceman (talk) 19:52, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked again. Apparently I am now still alive.

Question from Care3much (00:56, 22 October 2023)[edit]

Is it possible that I could make an article about a person that I know? They have contributed extraordinarily to the internet. --Care3much (talk) 00:56, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Care3much, we welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with people you write about, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

November Articles for creation backlog drive[edit]

Hello Frostly:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2600 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I love Aloha, welcome to Wikipedia! Edits can be reverted for a variety of reasons, such as not abiding by Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you have a concern regarding a specific edit, feel free to link it here! — Frostly (talk) 23:21, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ainsley3139 (16:48, 2 November 2023)[edit]

Hi, I want to make a page about myself for fun I have a picture of me to add but I tried to debit myself and got no where... is there any other way to do it? I thought it would be so simple like creating a website... it might be but I'm not seeing the easiness of it --Ainsley3139 (talk) 16:48, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ainsley3139, Wikipedia isn't a web host; if you're looking to create a website, you can ask for some suggestions of hosting services at the reference desk.
If you want to contribute to Wikipedia, though, and would like to write a bit about yourself, you can create a user page: see here for instructions. Warmly, — Frostly (talk) 23:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After all this hard work, Delaware BeanieFan11 has emerged as the 2023 winner and the WikiCup Champion. The finalists this year were:-

Please get in touch if you are interested. Next year's competition will hopefully begin on 1 January 2024. You are invited to sign up to participate in the contest; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors. It only remains to congratulate our worthy winners once again and thank all participants for their involvement! Question from AliceInWikiland 7c7 (12:21, 29 November 2023)[edit]

Hello!

I have a question regarding the content I added to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Outlander_episodes

If you look at the 'Short summary' entries for the earlier seasons (not by me), they are not all that short, and contain multiple spoilers. For my entries in Season 7, I've opted for a briefer and (in general) spoiler-free summary.

Obviously spoilers abound on articles dedicated to specific episodes, and even short summaries which do not spoil the episode they summarise may nonetheless spoil earlier episodes (I did this for my summary of S07E03, for example). But does Wiki have a specific policy on this, or is this just a matter of taste?

Question from Bonbonzilla (04:03, 6 December 2023)[edit]

Hello there Frostly! I wanted to thank you for volunteering to become a mentor, and also to ask you a question.

On the page for Body Image, I decided to cut out most of the 'History' section because I felt it wasn't relevant to the actual section and the article. Can you please review my edit and tell me if it was called for? Thank you for your time, and for listening! --Bonbonzilla (talk) 04:03, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bonbonzilla, welcome to Wikipedia! I would personally include the information inside the article, as I think that it might be relevant as context. Some of the information regarding beauty standards could be connected to body image as well. I would ask the folks at WikiProject Psychology if you'd like a third opinion! Sincerely, — Frostly (talk) 06:22, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Prophecion (11:46, 27 December 2023)[edit]

Hello! I've just discovered a single sentence in an article that makes an unsourced claim that a certain phrase appears in a specific text, but by my own investigation, I don't think this phrase appears in that text at all. I'm wondering if I should mark the sentence in question with a "Disputed Inline", or if it's specious enough to remove outright (though it seems it's been there long enough that rules recommend against sudden deletion). It's unsourced and I also believe it to be incorrect, so I'd love to know what your thoughts are on the specific steps I should take. --Prophecion (talk) 11:46, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Prophecion, welcome to Wikipedia! It'd be very helpful to have a link to the article, as context may help determine the correct action.
In general, if the claim is regarding a living person (or recently deceased one), I would remove it immediately. You can also delete the text if it's clearly inaccurate or contradicted by other reliable sources, but otherwise, you can choose to tag it with {{disputed inline}}, and leave a message with your rationale on the article's talk page.
Hope that helps! — Frostly (talk) 03:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, can I upload an image to wikimedia from a videogame and then link it as a source when I'm citing what's in it? --Xebec4 (talk) 10:48, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Xebec4, welcome to Wikipedia! You generally should avoid citing screenshots, as they count as a primary source and possibly as original research, but you can definitely cite other reliable sources that discuss the video game!
You can also just include a screenshot of the game in an article. One screenshot of video games usually can be used on Wikipedia as non-free content, to illustrate the article.
Hope that helps! — Frostly (talk) 06:08, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! What does -43 mean? --Mohamedblubba (talk) 21:42, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mohamedblubba, I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Could you please try rephrasing it or providing some context? Thanks! — Frostly (talk) 06:12, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
when I go to controbutions I see -43 and other negative numbers. What does that mean? Mohamedblubba (talk) 09:59, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mohamedblubba, ah! Those represent the amount of text changed in an edit (in technical terms, the net byte change). Red numbers mean the edit ended up in more text being removed than added, and green means the opposite. Bold numbers are especially big edits! Hope that helps. — Frostly (talk) 10:18, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Coder1702 (07:12, 6 January 2024)[edit]

Hello, my id got blocked but after 1 hours it again unblocked. I made a sample page and linked a university mentioned in Wikipedia article of a doctor. What could be the possible reason? --Coder1702 (talk) 07:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Coder1702, have you been editing with a VPN or proxy, perhaps? — Frostly (talk) 10:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes thank You.
One more doubt- I have been assigned with a task of editing a person wikipedia. That person itself told me so can I upload his image taken from the internet/ newspaper? Also when will I be the autoconfirmed user? Coder1702 (talk) 09:26, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Coder1702, I'm wondering who assigned the task to you? Your employer, your teacher, or someone else?
Usually, images of living people need to be released under a free license by the copyright holder to be eligible for Wikipedia. See here for an easy way to prove this.
Autoconfirmed users are users with more than 10 edits and whose account is more than 4 days old.
Hope that helps! — Frostly (talk) 05:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lady Aurora 60 (16:22, 11 January 2024)[edit]

Hellooo! Looks like you are my mentor ;D I wasn't even aware there were mentors here hehe. I recently created a Wikipedia account! I've always been scared to start editing, but today I saw there is no article for the company (Sandbox Interactive) that made one of my favorite computer games Albion Online, so I thought why not create it myself? Do you think it is a good idea? Should I proceed? Any tips?

PD: the snowflakes on your page are so cute :D --Lady Aurora 60 (talk) 16:23, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying :( --Lady Aurora 60 (talk) Lady Aurora 60 (talk) 14:56, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lady Aurora 60, I'm so so sorry for missing this message! It's completely my fault; please accept my sincere apology.
Thanks for noticing the snowflakes :)
Regarding Sandbox Interactive, I'm not sure that it's notable as a company just quite yet. There's definitely a lot of coverage about AO in reliable sources, but the organization itself hasn't received much independent attention. If there are at least three sources on this list (listed in green) that do cover Sandbox Interactive in the future, it's definitely a good idea for an article!
I'm really happy to see you interested in contributing to the video game space on Wikipedia; more editors are always needed here. Please consider joining WikiProject Video Games and the Wikimedia Community Discord server if you need any help at all!
Sorry again, and best wishes! — Frostly (talk) 23:51, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Woah thanks, I love how many good guidelines Wikipedia has! I'll be searching some articles on some of those sources and the day I find 3 I'll consider doing the article again! I might be able to improve the AO article in the meantime tho, we'll see.
It's kind of scary to start editing here, but I'll do my best to find a place where I can add my little little grain of SUGAR :). Lady Aurora 60 (talk) 13:56, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Coder1702 (17:15, 11 January 2024)[edit]

Hi Frostly, Please remove

as it gives a very wrong impression of the Wikipedia article. All the content is authentic. I made the changes to enrich the Wikipedia profile. It was lacking some info like awards etc.

Read the article if you find anything wrong do let me know but from my side, no vandalism has been done. Please remove it. Thank you and have a nice day --Coder1702 (talk) 17:16, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Coder1702, you have a conflict of interest with the subject. Please stop editing the article. Thank you. — Frostly (talk) 19:34, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
