question about level of interest in an article[edit]

--YoavD 07:25, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Thank you for sending me the help file - actually I read parts of it before starting. I got a message that maybe my article will be deleted - do you think that the subject is interesting enough for an article?[reply]

There are about 80 chess federations and I wanted every one of them documented by the head of each , and every article to include the mentioned below.

Thank you for your opinion!

Yoav Dothan (YoavD)

The national federation history The national championships

The winners The tables The games

International events with the national team

Olympiad Regional tournaments

Titled players

GM SM IM LGM LIM

International tournaments that are organized by the national federation

Hello!

I did an effort to demostrate what I planned , so please take a look in the ICCF Austria to see what was my intention. Of course I cannot do it all alone , but this was the idea. If you think that the wikipedia is not the proper place for such articles , then I will still thank you for what I learned from you about editing , and specially that I invested only a small amount of time , compared to the total project...

Thank you for your time!

thanks & question about Judaism[edit]

Shalom to you too!

Thank you - of course I am new , and when I saw on the history page that my name was added I thought it is automatic - now I know which icon to press..

I am just sending two letters to the federation of Austria and Belarus. IF they will be interested , they will develop their entry , otherwise it should really be deleted. All the material that is supposed to be added does not exist in the WEB , and probably not in any book just data in many places that was collected during the time (about the history of the federation) , and about the players it is sad that most of the beautiful masterpieces are usually lost , and even if they find their place in a database , there are without the original remarks of the creator , remarks that give an access to the thoughts of the masters.

So - I hope that people will cooperate - before I started I asked the worldwide director and he thought that it is a good idea and encouraged me to write.

About Judaism : I am sceptical about my ability to contribute - about new articles I just do not know enough - about translations from Hebrew - I could do some work but someone else should revise my English - it is simply not good enough. So - what did you have in mind?

If the Hebrew Encyclopedy would be/ is already public domain , then many articles could be translated! --YoavD 07:53, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

some details on myself[edit]

Hello again!

I am from Ramat Hasharon , approx. 10 km north of Tel Aviv and just south of Hertzelyia. I am 51 years old and member of the Reform congregation of Ramat Hasharon (my wife is the chairperson of the community) so I learnt quite a lot about Judaism but I am not an expert...

I play chess since I was a child , and I am a Grandmaster of the ICCF since 2004 (in 1993 I was champion of CC in Israel) so this is really my hobby.

I was a teacher for 25 years at the Tel Aviv University , but stopped at 2000. Now I am a full time frelancer working on developping financial computerized systems / models.

What more? I have 3 children - the oldest is doing his PHD in law (TAU) , my daughter is studying maritime biology and my youngster will finish his army duty in 3.2007.

My wife is also a certified tourist guide in Israel (but she does not work) - the only one guided is myself and in the past the children , we love to tour Israel, specially the northern part. --YoavD 08:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ramat Hasharon[edit]

First - am I doing the correct thing in aleaving you a message by entering your page or is there a direct way to answer your last message?

I will gladly develop the article on Ramat Hasharon - it may take a few days but when I will do it I will leave you a message.

I will also be happy to contibute to Judaism , if you wish me to translate from Hebrew. An article every few weeks would be o.k.

--YoavD 08:39, 26 December 2006 (UTC) I finally understood your meaning! I saw your invitation for the WEBSHOTS and accepted (of course!) but could not see any albums of you - maybe you tagged them as private.[reply]

Hello !

I have a question : I copied an article and pasted it on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICCF_Belgium and after updating the names of the GM and so on it does not show them as potential links (red lines) but with the brackets.

Could you please explain to me what is my mistake?

Hello!

Thank you for the smile notion a few days ago!

I have another question: In the main page I read "Wikipedia languages This Wikipedia is written in English. Started in 2001, it currently contains 1,570,356 articles. Many other Wikipedias are available; the largest are listed below."

In the list of all the wikipedias you see a lower number:

1 000 000+ articles No. Language Language (local) Wiki Articles Depth Total Edits Admins Users Images 1 English English en 1,569,261

Why are the two number not identical? Thank you!--YoavD 09:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption Welcome Template[edit]

Hi Frummer,

I like your modification to this welcome template e.g. User talk:Pharm Sci. Which seems to have got at least six users requesting adoption - well done. Can I suggest a couple of things though.

  1. Put a link on the talk page of WP:ADOPT so others can use - if your okay with that?
  2. Modify it slightly so that it links to WP:ADOPT as well - as there is useful info there (an Adoptee's Area will be up and running in days) and they need to know where the central area is. Also the contact time of adoptees is more like 24 hrs, so might want to modify a few hours. Keep up the good work.

Cheers Lethaniol 21:09, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

I've placed a 15min block on your account. You are currently creating new pages at a rate of 8 pages per min (50 edits in a row) and appear to be an automated program in violation of the bot policy. Unapproved bots should not be editing at a rate of more than 2 edits/min. To request approval to run a bot, please see WP:RFBOT. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 01:12, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Back (I was watching this page in case you came back sooner I was going to lift that block). Welcomebots have historically not been deemed useful by the community, although there has been no outright denial of them by the bot approvals group (as opposed to bots such as dictionary-spell-check-bots) or by the community (as in admin-bots). High-speed editing by non-flagged-bots (and 8/min is about the limit for them) is generally frowned upon, and you will likely be mistaken for an unauthorized bot again if resumed. Bots in trial and pre-bot work is typically requested to run at no more than 2/3 edits per min, and no more than xxx (usually 50-500 depending on the task) identical or almost identical edits. — xaosflux Talk 01:45, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not trying to throw a wet blanket on your project, but you were flooding the recent changes list, (one of the reasons why we have bot flagging). Putting up a bot request has been streamlined, and there is an auto request form you can use at WP:RFBOT, if nothing else you should be able to get approved for a trial run. — xaosflux Talk 02:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Welcome Message[edit]

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to use your variation of the welcome template. I think it's the greatest and most helpful one out here. If you have a problem with it, please say below. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 00:49, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

no prob frummer

My comments:

  • Obviously, the "fact" tags need to be taken care of.
  • Stick to one citation format; I saw some external jumps in the text.
  • The latter part of the text needs many more citations
  • "The Rainbow Covenant: Torah and the Seven Universal Laws - Clearest explanations about the Noahide Laws - Very Readable" Is that opinion or part of the title? If opinion, remove.
  • I'm not an expert on religion, so I don't know whether or not the text is factually accurate. However, adding citations always seems to go a long way to resolving disputes.

Good luck, Gzkn 03:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Second Life[edit]

Could you think about my comments on the FA nomination page? Metamagician3000 03:41, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

please subst welcome templates[edit]

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

This appears to include the {{welcome123}} template. That template appears to be designed soley for subst'ing. When you didn't subst it, everytime someone changed something on that page (in this case User talk:QaTTes), their sig was used in the template. Subst'ing solved that problem. Philip Berg--wrong picture[edit]

Hi. I think you put the wrong picture up for Philip Berg. He is an older guy, since the KC was established in the 60's. The picture you have is one of his sons, I think. —Dfass 06:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you say Yehuda Berg is a rabbi but do you deny that title to Yisroel Dovid Weiss and Moshe Aryeh Friedman? Is it not slightly hypocritical to act like that and yet call yourself 'frum'? --Chussid 09:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What, what?[edit]

Hi FTT,

I saw a "What" on my "user" Wikipage, I supose it's more of a comment than a questions. Yes, I'm ill-literate, a slow learner, and new to wiki, not to mention that i'm not Jewish (or anything else for that matter) but my name is Berg (not related to Michael), and I would like to contribute to Wikipedia, and could use all the help anyone will give. ... rats, how do I sign my name? quad tildes? ah, see, I learned something - already!

Norman Finkelstein and the attempt to slur him.[edit]

You posted wtvr the truth is, it would be distasteful. we can't judge kapos anyways. frummer 04:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC) at [1][reply]

I'm adding the following, and wondered whether you'd care to comment:

I thought the Wikipedia would benefit from containing references to the utterly false and horrific things that are said in order to hurt Finkelstein (and other critics of Israeli), in an attempt to link him to the Nazis and the anti-semitic, and to generally impugn his credibility. Actions that definitely come from Zionists (Dershowitz being a particularily prominent one).
I attempted to add a mild and carefully worded subset of this material into the Dershowitz article [2] and it was immediately reverted with (please recall WP:BLP and stop this disruptive nonsense).
So I attempted to put it in here, eg [3]. It was twice reverted with the comments (remove bizarre [[WP:NOR) and (remove bizzare original research and WP:BLP violation again; please use more appropriate edit summaries).
Are there others who believe it belongs, and can anyone suggest where it should be put? PalestineRemembered 13:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: WelcomeBot[edit]

Re your message: I read what little information there was at Category:WelcomeBotResearch and it was unclear to me exactly how you plan to collect and analyze whatever data you plan to collect, what you plan to do once the analysis is finished, and what the goal is. Can you please elaborate on these points? Thanks. -- Gogo Dodo 06:43, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: I see, though that still really wasn't all that clear. I'm not entirely sure that your methodology is correct either. You have a relatively small sample and you will have difficulty making a comparison between those that have been welcomed and those that have not. Have you discussed this with other groups such as the Wikipedia:Welcoming committee? The idea of an automated welcoming bot must have come up before and one hasn't been written. There are good reasons, I'm sure. -- Gogo Dodo 07:32, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I looked around some more and I see that you were participating in the discussion of such a welcoming bot at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Welcomebot. Approval was denied, but admin who closed the request left open the option to reactivate the bot request. I recommend that you reactivate the request before you proceed in collecting any data. If the bot request is denied, there is no need for you to go through all the work of collecting all the data. -- Gogo Dodo 07:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've been looking at bit at your experiment. One of the fascinating things to me about Wikipedia is the disparity between the number of users who have registered (3.5 million?) and the number who have done more than 10 edits (total, cumulative, ever) - about 150,000 as of the end of October 2006. So more than 90% of registered users actually never follow through in the sense of becoming active in Wikipedia after registering. It would certainly be valuable to do something that would increase that percentage.
I hope you're familiar with the concept of "control group"; otherwise, whatever analysis you're doing isn't going to tell you anything at all about the impact of putting a welcome template on talk pages of new users. If you're not familiar, or haven't thought through exactly how your analysis is going to go, please drop me a note - I think I could help. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 22:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at control group, which redirects to Scientific control - that's a rather poor article for such a key concept in science.
Anyway, a control group is a group of subjects that don't get the experimental treatment. In this case, it would be new editors who did not get the welcoming template. So, ideally, your experiment would have two groups, as identical as possible, with the only difference being that one group got the template and one did not. What this allows you to do is to say "Getting the template lead to X, Y, and Z". For example, 10% of unwelcomed editors did 5 or more edits in their first 30 days of being registered, while 25% of welcomed editors did 5 or more edits - so the experimental treatment - the welcoming template - caused a 15% increase in this behavior.
Without a control group, you can say "Users who got a template did A, B, and C after getting it", but you can't say if the template actually changed behavior. And because you can't say if it changed behavior, you can't (effectively) make the argument that welcoming everyone (via a bot) would actually make any difference. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 22:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I left the impression that you needed to pick a control group before you began putting welcome templates on user pages, I apologize. It's possible to do so afterwards (as in, today or tomorrow or whenever); if you do so retroactively, however, you need to put extra thought into it so that your choice(s) are fully defensible. So I hope you've not dropped this project completely.
I joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Vandalism studies because I hoped it would do useful things, and have not participated, much, since joining, because there seemed little interest in doing good design before starting to count things. So if you'd like to discuss the best way to count and measure things, to minimize work and maximize useful conclusions from the data in your experiment, I'd be happy to do that. For example, I know a fair amount about statistical sampling - which doesn't mean you need to calculate fancy numbers and reliability figures, but rather such things as this: evaluating 100 data points, if done right, provides 80+% of the information available from evaluating 1000 data points, but with only perhaps 20% of the work. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 18:36, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WelcomeBot[edit]

Hi! I'm not the one who created {{welcomeg}}, so I'm not sure if it would be ok to add the category there. What do you think? The way I welcome users is via my monobook, allows me to subst welcomeg on user's talk pages. Also, to be honest, I don't really like the colors in {{welcome123}} (IMO, they're too bright). I'd prefer if I could stick to the old template, however, I'd love to help if there's anything else I can do. Khoikhoi 07:34, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Defend the principles of WP as I'm attempting to do.[edit]

I chose the name "PalestineRemembered" because I expected to find that WP had been infiltrated by people with a much heavier agenda than mine. Prove me wrong, and you prove my name to be a worthless distraction.
I chose this name because doing so was "honest". People like you know exactly where I am coming from. If you're fair-minded, that makes judgements on my posts easier, not more difficult (am I right?). Yes, numerous attempts have been made to entangle me in disputes. But then they were going to do that anyway.
I only post in one field because I prefer to give away nothing about my real identity. As a precaution it's useless, the Zionists have vast resources available to track down and harrass people like me. They can again ring prominent people in my neighbourhood and point to what I've posted - but they can no longer pretend to be an individual who just happened to realise it was me.
None of the above need impact on my standing amongst other Wikipedians (though when it's combined with only passable skills as a word-smith, I may simply be ignored anyway!).
You picked up on the fact I'm trying to add material to the article on Norman Finkelstein. An administrator accused me of adding "negative material" to the biography of people who could be mistaken for Zionists. He'd apparently failed to notice I was doing so in order to try and protect these people from the lies and unpleasantness of the Zionists - think about it. (That's mostly the case, in 2 other articles I was trying to quote the murderous words of Zionists in their biographies, but that was a waste of time, no matter how carefully I comply with WP:RS).
There are potentially two good reasons for changing my name. Perhaps "PalestineRemembered" could impact on people's impressions of WP. Mislead the passer-by into thinking that WP is not dominated by Zionists?
Secondly, WP depends on donations (for which I greatly respect the guy who created this resource!). Does my name tend to hamper WP raising money? Not my place to say, but again I think highly unlikely.
PS - if you wonder whether I'm exaggerating about the problem of Zionists making POV edits (and it being an endemic WP problem), see [4]. It happened less than 5 hours ago, an administrator is chipping away at an article, removing 100% good and relevant WP:RS material because he doesn't like it. The words of the historian are first to go. Shortly, (as happened last time in this same article), every word from the people themselves will have been removed. C'mon, prove me wrong, defend the principles of WP as I'm attempting to do!

{{new}} template[edit]

Your use of the "new" template is causing articles that do already have categories on them to be filed in Category:Category needed, which merely creates unnecessary extra backlog for a cleanup project that's already very heavily backlogged. If you wish to use {{new}} rather than {{cleanup}}, then please find a way to use it such that articles do not appear in Category:Category needed if they already have a category on them. Thanks. Bearcat 10:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, what I'd do is take the "Category needed" tag off the template, and apply that tag separately to articles that actually need it. That way it won't end up sitting on articles that already have categories on them. Or do two separate templates, one that can be added to new articles that don't have categories on them and one that can be added to new articles that do already have categories. Bearcat 10:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Leaving the note in isn't a problem, and you can still apply one of the category tags when necessary. An article just shouldn't automatically go in that category unless it actually needs to, that's all. Bearcat 11:10, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Opening paragraphs at Lost (TV series)[edit]

Hi, Frummer,

Wikipedia articles' opening paragraphs are intended to be summaries of the most important info of an article; and should be able to be read alone to get an encyclopedic short-version of the whole. Please see: Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Lead_section and Wikipedia:Lead_section. While I agree that the lead may need some tweaking for readability, I do not see the order of items there as being problematic. The article has been peer reviewed, and there was a specific discussion about the lead here: Wikipedia:Peer review/Lost (TV series)/archive1. Thanks,--LeflymanTalk 19:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty familiar with WP:LEAD and WP:GTL. Let me reiterate without and copying and pasting anything. The lead simply delves into details of the production of the drama which does not conform to these guidelines. PP and FAC doesn't warrant locking the page. PP and FAC simply means the article gained recognition. I make a valid point and it stands to improve. Cheers. frummer 19:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's part of my philosophy about the role of admins on wikipedia... Admins are respected members of the community. But, the respect came first and is not a result of having the admin-mop.

The weight of a man's words is dependent on the respect they have earned and the strength of the argument. Nothing else matters. ---J.S (T/C) 00:16, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AFD[edit]

I think Uncle G's thoughts most represent my views on notability.

Basically, I think we should retain the dignity of the traditional encyclopedia but with the greater advantage of having no restriction in size. We should be the encyclopedia that Britannica wishes they could be. Not just in width, but in depth as well. ---J.S (T/C) 00:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I remember right, I added that in following a request using {{editprotected}}. I don't mind making changes one bit, but I'd like to see some consensus about them (which I might have done well to check, before, I know). If Template talk:Uncategorized doesn't do the trick, might consider Eli's user talk, the village pump, or admin noticeboard. Luna Santin 00:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. {{status}} is one of several templates that need to be static until they are no longer being used at all. It sounds like you are looking at making some other kind of {{taxobox}}. Don't reinvent the wheel. If there's something you don't like about the existing taxobox, please propose a change to it instead of creating something else. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:52, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Interwiki[edit]

Hi, I believe the WP Taxoboxes can generate allot of interest in the wikispecies project. The project is undergoing an exciting revamp and I've proposed for a WP article to be featured on the WS main page on a weekly basis. I see you're a native of WP:TX, I propose to include a link to the WS article in all relevant Taxoboxes, essentially serving the same function as {{Commons}}. Perhaps the box can even be headed "WikiSpecies", for a few months so as to give us a wider editorial and bigger readership and generate media interest. I also propose for all the images in the boxes to be embedded with {{click}} leading to the image in WC, so as to generate interest in Wikicommons too. es.Wikipedia has already disallowed uploading images on their Wikipedia. PLease let me know. Cheers. frummer 18:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As UtherSRG said, when it was last discussed there was no consensus to add the link to taxobox, and no external links have been added yet to taxoboxes (as they have for company and film infoboxes). The best place to discuss it, however, would be Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tree of Life or Template talk:Taxobox. —Pengo talk · contribs 22:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hman?[edit]

No problem, I'm fearful for the future of Wikipedia, without a flexible but structured rule of law, there's gonna be chaos that will collapse this project soon: the rights of the individual and the rights of the collective have to be in balance with the intent towards bettering the encyclopedia in the process.

Re: Second Life[edit]

I'm sorry that my changes ended up taking out so much of the lead section - I'll try to add more to it (though maybe not as quickly as tonight). I don't think the "History" title implies that the game is not new - the section has things like its founding, growth, changes, etc, and should expand as events occur. Also, I'm sorry, but I don't understand the WP:NATIVE comment - the shortcut WP:NATIVE does not exist. —AySz88\^-^ 03:45, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ADOPT[edit]

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 13:52, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Words from verses should be part of larger articles[edit]

Hi FrummerThanThou: tohu vavohu's contents and name moved to Creation according to Genesis. In the past, Wikipedia's editors have chosen not create articles based on verses or words from verses in the Hebrew Bible (or from the Christian Bible) as texts are more related to Wikisource projects. Dor Daim article[edit]

Dear FrummerThanThou

I do not understand the accusation of bias. Most of the article says, in effect, "there is a group called Dor Daim founded in Yemen, and their beliefs are ABCDE", and I have been labouring to ensure that the article does not go into the merits and demerits of those beliefs but simply states that they exist. For example, it would be entirely wrong for the article to discuss the merits of the arguments on the dating of the Zohar (and when the article says things like "the problem comes in with the Zohar", this obviously means "the problem, on their view", and I have now clarified this); and to describe the Zohar or the Bahir as "Midrash" is to take one side in these arguments. On the other hand, to say (as fact, and in the main narrative portion of the article) "this is a wacky fringe group, condemned by all mainstream Jewish denominations", as you seem to want to, would be bias.

If you think the article portrays them too sympathetically, the place to correct this would be the "criticisms" section. I have already inserted a paragraph clarifying that the problem for most people is not simply that Dor Daim don't like Kabbalah (there are plenty of others who don't either) but that they seem to disenfranchise all who do like it (cf. the issue of Takfir in Islam). If there are other, documented, criticisms, then please insert them there; once more, so as to show that the criticisms exist rather than whether they are justified.

Perhaps the problem is who we are talking about. People like Yosef Kapach, who succeeded the original Dor Daim, were widely respected, including by secular Israelis. If (as I have seen in articles in Haaretz) there are hilltop settlers who call themselves "Dor Daim" and talk about expelling all the Arabs (or worse) and blowing up the mosques on the Temple Mount, this does not necessarily reflect on the whole movement; and there are plenty of other nutters out there with similar views who have nothing to do with Dor Daim.

I am not trying to discourage you from editing: but please clarify where you think the bias shows. --Sir Myles na Gopaleen (the da) 10:48, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

I have also shortened the "Criticisms" section, so that the replies to criticism aren't longer than the criticisms! Does the article look a bit better now? -- Sir M na G, 13 Feb

Question re: Project Israel[edit]

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Israel/Statement Itayb 19:52, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a request for guidelines on how to assess the reliability of a source in matters concerning Israel[edit]

I'd like to request that Project Israel determine guidelines on how to evaluate the reliability of a source in matters concerning Israel. A (not exhaustive, and not binding) list of newspapers, magazines and organizations, whose publications can be used as reliable sources of information in Israel-related articles, would be most helpful. I suggest somehow incorporating the Alexa rating into the guidelines. I also think that these guidelines should be worked out in tandem with Project:Palestine.

More specifically, i'm wondering whether the online magazine israelinsider can be treated as reliable source of factual information. As far as i know it is relatively unknown magazine, and has a strong pro-Israeli bias. Please see discussion on talk:Azmi Bishara#israelinsider - i wonder how adequate it is as a source. • Responding to your inquiry on my talk page, I certainly have heard of fair use. But I suspect you may not be familiar with the Wikipedia guidelines on fair use, particularly the third paragraph: "An editor uploading copyrighted material to Wikipedia must provide a detailed fair use rationale; otherwise the uploaded material will be deleted." Assuming that the creation of an article 75% of which is a direct cut-and-paste from another website can ever constitute fair use, there was nothing on the article's talk page when I tagged it as a copyvio, and there is still nothing on the talk page despite the instructions in the hangon template you added. If you want to rescue the article, you really should explain how the concept of fair use supports your cut-and-paste so an admin can make an informed decision. -- Butseriouslyfolks 20:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I really need your help here. ZayZayEM is engaging in troll-like behavior, such as making edits on the very materials I am editing, removing sourced materials immediately after I add them, and so forth. It is a harassment pattern that extends across multiple articles. The main articles involved are:
* Jewish reactions to intelligent design
* Jewish opposition to evolution
* Natan Slifkin
It is bizarre behavior, because I can see no reason why he is even interested in this material. As you and I both know, it is material you have to really understand well to edit. Over the last week, I have substantially rearranged all the materials on Judaism and evolution in an effort to clean up the main Judaism and Evolution page first of all, so that it can be turned into a page that is not dominated by issues (such as the Slifkin affair) that would have undue weight. ZayZayEM has simply made it impossible for me to work. He has followed me from one article to another, demanding arbitrary changes. many of his edits, and his changes, show that he knows very little about the subject, which as you and I both know, is quite abstruse at times. --Metzenberg 16:34, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Cangooglehearme.com[edit]

A tag has been placed on Cangooglehearme.com, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. andy 21:07, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry you're irritated that I nominated this article for speedy deletion but you know how it works on Wikipedia - anyone with a genuine point of view is free to express it and if enough others agree it tends to carry the day. I didn't think the article was right for an encyclopedia and that was also the view of two other editors, one of whom deleted it. But as you also know there's an appeals system... andy 19:01, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noted the message you left on my Editor Review and I was quite amazed at what you had written there: Do you think you have what it takes to be Wikipedia's youngest sysop. I was quite flattered by that message, but do you think that I have what it takes to be a sysop?

Thanks,

Booksworm Talk to me! 16:15, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes, i think you should go for it! frummer 12:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Hi5 (Website)[edit]

An editor has nominated Hi5 (Website), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hi5 (Website) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Wikiproject:Israel[edit]

Just wondering why you left so many members off the new members list? Number 57 16:20, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, it's ok - I see there were two members lists before, but fewer people knew about the second one! Nice front page though. Number 57 16:22, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism to Eyal Hertzog[edit]

frummer - I may have criticisms of your article but wanted to warn you that someone else has more malicious intent. An anonymous user has blanked most of it, but as you can see from their talk page User talk:82.39.9.197 they are not a very good Wikipedian. Just wanted to let you know. I'll leave it up to you to revert and/or report. Kim dent brown 21:02, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:ArkadiGaydamak.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Wikify from Judaism, by 84.66.17.239, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Wikify from Judaism has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Wikify from Judaism, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Category:Wikify from Judaism itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:47, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

I do appreciate it, even if I haven't said so in a month. It's been a busy month. And I'll disappear again in about three weeks (surgery rotation). But small manners are important, so thought I'd drop a line in appreciation. GUSwim 21:28, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rabbiberg.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rabbiberg.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Jewishworld_cartoon.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jewishworld_cartoon.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Non-free use disputed for Image:Linden Dollar.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Linden Dollar.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your User Name[edit]

Shalom,

According to Yiddish rules, your username is grammatically incorrect. The word frum, religious, is an irregular adjective; the comparative and superlative are frimmer (more religious), and frimster (most religious), respectively. Just thought I'd let you know. :) --MosheA 19:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly the name isn't Yiddish; it's Yeshivish. Jon513 21:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Islam[edit]

Yes, I am a Muslim. I grew up frum, but I have recently converted. --MosheA 21:49, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
