Conflict of interest[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Dean Silvers, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself, as you did at Dean Silvers. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:51, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Notability of Dean Winters[edit]

Hi forrest, saw your post on the help desk. Tried to find some good third-party sources for your dad's article. This interview with Filmmaker mag: http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/issues/summer1994/obsession.php should be considered an independent third-party source. If you need any help putting it in there, drop me a line (click on the "talk" after "The Interior") Have a good one, hope you enjoy working on Wikipedia, The Interior(Talk) 01:24, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable Sources[edit]

Hey Forrest. In response to your note, because Blackbook is considered a "trade magazine" (i.e. its only market is film industry professionals), it is seen as small-market and as having weak editorial standards (which may or may not be true). IMdb is definitely not a a reliable source, because it's content is user-generated. But I believe filmmaker mag is wide-circulation mag, with editorial oversight. Also, the Sundance Institute would be considered reliable, at least in terms of the awards it confers. I'm getting this from the policy page Wikipedia:ReliableSources. So as the article progresses, references like Blackbook will probably be replaced and improved.

On another note, a person has to be careful with having two accounts - see Wikipedia:MultipleAccounts. There is practice called "sockpuppetry" whereby users assume two identities in order to push their point of view, or to evade trouble they have gotten into. So as long as there is no shenanigans, two accounts are fine. I personally appreciate it when a user states on his/her user page that that is the case, avoiding confusion with other editors. But back to the task at hand: references. The neat and tidy way to do refs is to use these templates: WP:CITET. I know they look a bit unwieldy, but any field you don't fill in doesn't show up. So we'll copy and paste the cite journal template into the part of the article to be reffed, and bang in the available info from the article:

{{Cite journal | last = Bernstein | first = Paula S. | authorlink = | coauthors = | title = Obsession for Men | journal = Filmmaker | volume = | issue = | pages = | publisher = | location = | date = | url = http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/issues/summer1994/obsession.php | issn = | doi = | id = | accessdate = October 28 2010}}

As you can see, this article is missing an original date, which isn't the best, but work with what you have. Then you must place the ref tags:<ref></ref> before and after, and should pop up all neat and tidy in the References section. (This never works on first try, so use the preview button to see whats happening before you save.) Anyways, I'll let you have fun with refs, and I'll check up on the article after work. Good luck, The Interior(Talk) 18:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I will also try and address the "reliable sources" tag.

Welcome and introduction[edit]

Hi, Fsilvers. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  21:33, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

The article Unconquered (1989 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references. If you find references, you can remove this tag and avert deletion.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyler Silvers until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. GSS💬 14:38, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain why this article was not nominated for deletion: Keli Price

The Tyler Silvers article has 20 sources and no copyright issues with tons of independent notability, did you not click on any of the sources? The article above has one reference that is no longer on the internet and the first three sentences are an advertisement and there seems to be no issue with that?

Tyler Silvers was the creator and lead on a TV series picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films that was on Prime Video, it's not like he made a student film or something, look at his following, look at the independent notability: https://www.instagram.com/tylersilvers22/?hl=en https://www.screendaily.com/news/samuel-goldwyn-films-snaps-up-short-form-comedy-series-becoming-jiff-from-silvers-brothers/5132771.article https://www.clichemag.com/celebrity-news/becoming-jiffs-tyler-silvers-on-comedy-family-and-navigating-mistaken-identity/ https://www.buzzfeed.com/jenniferabidor/heres-a-bunch-of-things-you-can-watch-on-amazon-prime-video https://thefilmstage.com/new-to-streaming-let-the-sunshine-in-private-life-phantom-thread-and-more/ https://www.indiewire.com/2011/06/paladin-takes-spiritual-drama-one-fall-242705/

For some reason it seems GSS is picking on me. I've been a part of this community for years before GSS joined and I feel I am being bullied, I don't know if it is because of my race or religion but now he is trying to take down one of my articles from almost three years ago that had no issues. Becoming Jiff was very popular in the New York indie scene. BuzzFeed said it was a top 5 show on Prime Video! How is that not a reliable source? It had a major film distributor, Samuel Goldwyn Films. Dean Silvers produced it, he produced Flirting With Disaster and wrote the book Secrets of Breaking into the Film and TV Business, Reddit did an AMA with the filmmakers.

I am not Egrayson12, I did not edit anything under that account. My account has been FSilvers for almost a decade. This is a false accusation, there is no evidence even supporting this. If you look a the history of the Tyler Silvers page other users have had it redirect to the Becoming Jiff page. Why would I want to remove the Tyler Silvers page that I just added? Who the heck are Drwho92 and Chloe kath? That's not me. I used to love Wikipedia, I'd edit all the time for over a decade, but now I've given up on wikipedia, it seems they've lost control of some of their editors. I posted a stub about a popular American Web Series "Becoming Jiff" (it's recommend on Amazon Prime after tons of other popular shows) three years ago, hundreds of editors had no problem with the stub, but then it was taken down because some editor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GSS) in India didn't think it was a notable movie? That makes no sense, it's not a movie. He obviously doesn't understand the American Web Series world.

I would look into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GSS. It seems he has been abusing his power, I just checked his article history, it's odd how he makes American Wikipedia articles for Indian politicians that have no notability. Also it looks like instead of defending any of his articles that are purposed for deletion he just undoes it, yet he forces everyone else to defend their articles when he purposes deletion. #corruption #hypocrisy #PsychologicalProjection. I live in an doorman building that has a common area with a TV and computer, that means hundreds of people have the same IP address, sorry but I do not know who Chloe kath, Drwho92 or Foozzball are. I have been an editor for over 10 years, I don't understand the attitude. It's a shame it seems people pick on small editors and seem to be afraid to question bigger editors.
