re: City of Fontana[edit]

Hi, I didn't mean to be abrupt, though I'm sure it was. There's a lot of that around WP. This place runs at a fairly high rpm. Anyway, the reason for undoing your additions is all about the manual of style. That just means that there have been standards set up for how certain types of articles should be arranged and how the formatting of sections and individual items should be done.

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the long list of parks and centers that had addresses and embedded external links. These I removed based on WP:NOTDIRECTORY, which says what we're not doing with WP articles is making yellow page type entries. The embedded links are discouraged based on another portion of the manual of style (WP:EL) which recommends that embedded links not be placed in the body of the article.

I usually only place material in articles that's been published in a secondary and reliable source. I usually just paraphrase what those sources say then use the referencing templates (here's a tutorial for that) to cite the source.

Now I know that this is a ton of information, so what I would do is take a look at a few of the links, just to get a feel for how things are laid out and other accepted styles, then maybe take a look at an article that has been reviewed by editors and assessed as a Good article. I located an example of one (I looked for a California-based article, but didn't find any) here: Saint Paul, Minnesota. This article has gone through a formal review process and has taken tons of man hours to get to this level, but the idea here is that this is what we're shooting for. Well written prose, with the article layout closely matching that of the manual of style, and high quality references.

Now that's obviously a very high bar, but I'm simply conveying that that is our goal, and you can help by making some edits (preferably smaller ones) and build the article along the lines of the MoS. Dawnseeker2000 03:03, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
