As far as I can tell, your edits have all been to add Desimone Consulting Engineers as structural engineer to numerous articles. This brings up several concerns:
- If you are being paid to make these edits, you must comform to the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, which requires that you identify yourself as a paid editor in a specific fashion, and who is paying you to amke the edits. Please see WP:TOU for further information, and if you are a paid editor, please follow the requirements listed there.
- Even if you are not a paid editor, if you have a relationship with Desimone Consulting Engineers, such as being an employee, or a consultant, or the relative of an employee, you may have a conflict of interest in regard to the editing you are doing. In this case, please read our editing with a conflict of interest. So far as I can see, your edits have been non-objectionable so far, although some editors may consider that spamming our articles with the company's name is a breach of our policy against using Wikipedia for promotion -- so be forewarned that it's always possible that someone will ask you to conform to the COI rules and not edit as articles directly, instead leaving a suggestion on the talk page and allowing non-conflicted editors to make the change.

Speedy deletion nomination of DeSimone Consulting Engineers[edit]

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged DeSimone Consulting Engineers for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

Hello, I'm Pburka. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to The Standard, High Line because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. - Thanks for the response. I work for a PR Firm that works with DeSimone. They did not have a Wikipedia presence (as most other large engineering firms do) despite working on some of the most significant new structures in the world so I wanted to create a page for them. DeSimone is mentioned in numerous wikipedia pages, however there was no link to their won page as one had not been created. I purposely tried to not be promotional, only stating facts that could be sourced to independent sources. I am confused how adding the fact that DeSimone served as structural engineer on a project is promotional as it is extremely relevant to the structures discussed. Can you please provide some clarity on this? The DeSimone draft page i worked on is all sourced to outside sources and is purposefully not promotional. It also appears to be inline with other structual engineering firms Wikipedia pages. Can you provide some clarity on this...it is my first time editing or creating a wikipedia page!?! - I urge you to read WP:COI to understand what a conflict of interest is, and why it's important to avoid editing when you have a conflict. Even when trying to remain neutral, it's very difficult. For example, have you researched any controversies or failures which DeSimone might have been involved in? Since you work for DeSimone, you're more likely to focus on the company's positive achievements. I reverted your addition of DeSimone credits for a number of reasons. First, they were almost all unreferenced. Material in Wikipedia must be verifiable in reliable sources. You need to provide reliable sources showing that these statements are true. Try to avoid primary sources, such as the company's own website. Secondly, it wasn't clear that the information was important to the articles. I'm sure that it's important to DeSimone that they be credited, but Wikipedia is not a credit roll. It doesn't make sense to name all of the contractors involved in every building project: who handled scaffolding erection or waste removal from the Standard site? The best way to determine if something is relevant is if other sources considered it important. Did the New York Times mention DeSimone in their coverage of the construction, for example? Since you have a conflict, the best way to handle these issues is to discuss your proposed changes on the talk pages of the articles in question, while declaring your conflict. - Thanks for the feedback. As i mentioned I am new to this and this provided much clarity. I totally understand the conflict of interest and don't think I have written anything that is promotional, however I see the precieved issue. On most projects there appeared to be an info box that listed details of the buildings. Most of DeSimone's projects are listed on the buildings they worked on and I was attempting to add them to the info boxes where they were not listed. When I was not able to do this, I mentioned their involvement in the project. They are the structural engineer of record on all the projects I added them to so I can easily go back and source those if that helps. I do not want to diminish the important role many contractors play with any given development, however typically a structural engineer is seen on par with the architect and they often work side-by-side on projects. Particularly when it comes to iconic, large, or unusual projects, the structural engineer ensures that the designed building is possible and safe. Again it is not my aim to promote them, rather just add missing information to the building info pages where they are not listed. There's no mention of the architect or the general contractor or anyone else involved in the design and construction, but you've made sure that DeSimone is credited twice. It's also not clear that there's anything remarkable about the buildings themselves. To me this seems like WP:Undue weight and it creates the appearance that you're not interested in generally improving the encyclopedia, but only in promoting your client. Personally, I don't have a problem with adding the engineering firm to infoboxes, but the way you've been copying-and-pasting it into prose is problematic. - Yes, I see what you mean. It was in error that I added that info twice. I really wish just to add them to the info boxes and only added them in the copy if there was no info box as I had diffucutly creating them.
