Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, GTCDesign. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Robyn Arianrhod, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 01:23, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this information I will be sure to keep it in mind with any future editing or contributions. The original contained errors and inaccurate information I was asked to try and correct these. Robyn has been unable to make these corrections herself and has had deep concern about incorrect information being publicly displayed. Thanks again for bringing my attention to potential COI. GTCDesign (talk) 01:32, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You cancelled my changes due to COI, yes there's errors in the references this was under corrective processes. This page is about a living person and contains many inaccuracies that must be corrected or the page removed completely. GTCDesign (talk) 02:38, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Are you being paid to correct factual errors in this article? If so, under the Wikipedia Foundation's terms of use, you must disclose if you are being paid in any way. The Night Watch (talk) 02:41, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No. I read the COI potential issues, I'm just helping a very frustrated friend who has been trying to get this changed for a long time. None of us would be happy seeing inaccurate info being shared publicly. GTCDesign (talk) 02:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You could try proposing the exact changes on the talk page of that article. See the text {{edit COI}}? Just paste the template (the thing with brackets) on the talk page of the article with the exact material you wish to change, add, or remove. Some further directions can be found on the page I just linked. The Night Watch (talk) 02:51, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion what is the likely-hood of anyone actually making the changes? Nothing personal I appreciate the help but it appears that minor COI interpretations rate higher than removal of inaccurate and potentially defamatory statements. Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Euryalus (talk) 09:58, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above, the principal issue for this block is your username, which attributes control of the account to an entity not an individual. I appreciate your statement you're just trying to correct something for a friend, and thanks for being upfront about that. Unfortunately we don't allow accounts that read as if they could be being used by multiple people. There's some instructions above about how to request a rename. Apologies that this adds another hoop to jump through. -- Euryalus (talk) 10:04, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And yet I've been communicating with a Wiki rep with the username of The Night Watch‬. I understand there needs to be caution and structure I hope if a deletion of this page is requested things go smoother. GTCDesign (talk) 10:58, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
