Galkaha: I have read all the help pages and I made sure to comply with requirements. I am not affiliated with Adopt-a-Pet.com. I just think since the Petfinder, the competing for-profit organization has a Wikipedia page, it will be fair to have a page for a non-profit. Don't you think? The editor who deleted the page indicated copyright violation, but I think he is wrong, since no copyrighted materials were used in the creation of the article, they were cited as references, and if this is a problem, I can remove them. I put quite a bit of time into the article, and now I can't recover the latest version in my sandbox, which is quite annoying.

Hi Galkaha, Please read this page about pages for competitors. Pages should have their own notability, not just because their competitor is notable. Also, you cannot copy text from another page and simply reference it. It must be written in your own words. You can read this page for more information. LegoKontribsTalkM 00:45, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did read this page and yes, I think Adopt-a-pet.com has its own notability. And it was not deleted because of notability but because of copyright, which I don't agree with since I did write everything with my own words and typed with my own two fingers. Any similarity in wording is coincidental for sure, so please let me know where it appears to be a violation, and I will be happy to change the wording. Also, is there a way to restore the latest version of the article? Thanks.

Please provide substantiation about the "notability" of this website first. And, a quick hint, you can sign you message by placing ~~~~ at then end of it tho show something like that : Amqui (talk) 03:43, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think if you see the article I wrote (will anybody tell me how it can be restored???), the notability will be obvious. Adopt-a-pet.com is THE LARGEST pet adoption non-profit in North America. Over 12000 shelters advertize their pets on the web site. I have seen CNN Headline News program recommending it in the last two weeks. It is a big deal company that has been around for over 10 years. Galkaha (talk) 17:02, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From your statements here it still does not appear that you have read WP:N. You will need to provide specific independent third party reliable sources WP:RS that cover the topic in a significant manner. Age of the business doesnt matter, that they do good work doesnt matter that they claim to be the largest doesnt matter without actual specific coverage. Can you provide that coverage and not just claim "i saw something on TV some time"? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:08, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article I wrote, which has been deleted, and I keep asking how I can restore it (will anybody help???), has references to [1] Guidestar charity check http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/95-4761276/humane-america-animal-foundation.aspx [2] Charity navigator http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=11882 which are independent organizations providing information and rating non-profit organizations. Just now, the Google News search for "Adopt-a-Pet.Com" returned the following unsponsored links:

- "Adopt Me! Shasta Wants to Be Your Velcro" People Magazine-Sep 28, 2012

To learn more about her, visit her Adopt-a-Pet.com profile. Meet last week's adoptable pets, Chance and Rebecca. Adopting a pet is an ...

- "October is Adopt-a-Dog Month—Could One of These Be Your New ..." Patch.com-Oct 1, 2012

... athttp://www.adoptapet.com/animal-shelters and you can use a website like Adopt-a-Pet.com to search for pets for adoption at all these types ...

- "N.J. man who left Rottweiler dogs in hot car pleads guilty to animal ..." Examiner.com-Oct 5, 2012

Let 'em know you saw "Lava" on Adopt-a-Pet.com! Website: http://www.justinbartlettanimalrescue.org ..., which are all independent reputable news sources.

In fact, I think my article has a much better set of external sources than Petfinder.org, which is published. Please help me restore my article and please read it before we discuss further. I did expect that I would need to edit it before it is accepted. I never expected it to be just deleted like this! Galkaha (talk) 17:31, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1) the fact that other articles currently suck and may not meet the Wikipedia criteria is not a reason to allow additional articles that do not meet the criteria.
2) a rating from a charity rating service is not significant coverage
3) brief passing mentions "you can use a service like adoptapet or petfinder" is not significant coverage
do you have anything else? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:00, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can also ask to receive the content of the deleted article (which will most likely be accepted if you wrote it). Please see Category:Wikipedia_administrators_who_will_provide_copies_of_deleted_articles, and ask an admin of the list to help you. Amqui (talk) 18:04, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Amqui, the link you provided does not show anything useful (The Wiki page.... does not exist). Can you give more detailed instructions on how to request the article? And once again, it was deleted by someone I don't remember the user name now, for copyright violation, which is totally wrong, and not for any of the reasons brought up above by people who have not in fact read the article. While I agree with othercrap approach in principle, because of the importance of Wikipedia, it amounts to Wikipedia supporting some companies over others, which I don't think is it's goal. In fact, this whole process has undermined quite a bit my faith in reliability of articles provided and I think I will be referring people to Wikipedia less in the future, and will not use it as much myself anymore.Galkaha (talk) 18:21, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is here to provide an encyclopedia, collecting content that third party reliable sources have found worthy of discussion. Period. I am sure the organization does wonderful things, but until there is third party coverage, they dont get an article. And as long as you dont have the third party source significant coverage hurdle met, you are wasting your time,'' because EVEN IF an administrator temporarily restores the content, unless you have the sources, ITS GONNA GET DELETED AGAIN. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:54, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even if that's true, nothing refrain an user to retrieve content he wrote if it got deleted. Galkaha, just click on a username on the page I gave you, and ask for the content of your article on his talk page. Amqui (talk) 03:18, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Information about conflict of interest

[edit]

Hello, Galkaha. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 23:22, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
