DISTRIBUTING THE BLAME IS THE WRONG GAME! Men behaving badly episode copyright

I am replying to the message you have sent me regarding the "men behaving badly" episode copyright. I would like to correct you, i originally inserted an episode synopsis for each episode, and these were replaced by unauthorized summaries which I AM NOT responsible for. Hence, the current synopses are not my contributions and I would gladly appreciate it if you get your facts right in future before pointing the finger. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chris C. Nichols (talkcontribs). 11:05, 2 July 2007

Hi, I just saw that this image has been deleted, I was the person who uploaded it and I would like so kind of explanation. I noticed that you removed it from the Technocracy movement page, but I don't know if you were involved in deleting it. If you didn't delete it, then can you direct me to who did, or at least provide some explanation? Thanks. --Hibernian 15:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if I'm supposed to respond here or on my page, but anyway. I'm afraid it was not correct to delete the image, you see I've got permission from the Website owner to place any of the photos in his gallery ([1]) to Wikipedia under that licence. There really is no copyright issue anyway, as the people in the pictures are almost all long dead and the organization doesn't even care about copyrights anyway (i.e. they're basically an anti-copyright group). They certainly won't be suing Wikipedia even if there was a problem, which there isn't, because as I said, permission was given. I guess I'll have to re-upload it. --Hibernian 17:10, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, yes, please restore my text. Thank you! Peter. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Peterkeyani (talkcontribs). 13:31, 4 July 2007

Re: nogallery

Hi, I saw you added the nogallery again because of non-free content reasons. This is one of the very few exemptions to that policy. See Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria exemptions. Already decided a while ago when nogallery was implemented. See somewhere in the archives of Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria and the last paragraph of Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. It makes deleting (or possibly saving) images so much easier when you can already see the thumbnails. Garion96 (talk) 13:28, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I can't recall ever seeing anything about this at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content, and I can't see anything about it there now. I also can't find a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content criteria exemptions, it seemed that some people just decided to go ahead and make all the administrative image categories exemptions. Why exactly is it necessary to show the thumbnails? --bainer (talk) 13:55, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
To already give an indication of what to do with the image. It's so much more practical. IMO of course. It has been like this for a while, until suddenly recently the nogallery was added. I just found the discussion here. I think I am quite strict with our non-free content criteria, but this exemption, unlike the mainpage, does make sense. Garion96 (talk) 14:14, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't see how it's "more practical" though. What are the benefits of having thumbnails? All the problems are on the image description pages. --bainer (talk) 17:26, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Kaz

Hi there! After you moves/edits to Kaz and Kazimieras G. Prapuolenis, the edit histories of the disambig page and the article about the person became shuffled. I'd appreciate if you could sort them out, as currently the edit history of the disambiguation page only shows your two most recent edits. Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it is possible to collect all edits onto one page and then re-distribute them properly, separating the history of the dab page from the history of the article itself. Let me know if you can't do that; I'll tackle it later myself. Thanks for the prompt reply! Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:18, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually, if one isn't aware of previous move/change history, it is rather complicated to figure out what exactly happened. That's the only reason why I even bothered to let you know—it may work for GFDL reasons, but it's still a pain in the backend to sort out. Since it can be fixed relatively easily, I don't see a reason why not do it :) Anyway, let me know if you need help sorting the histories. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I sent them a very polite email but I never heard anything, and I must admit it slipped my mind. It was a funny thing as a professional website with no general copyright notice. Probably best off deleted as it is easily replaceable with a user taken photo. Cheerio. Madmedea 13:48, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Howdy - a courtesy note from TB here as I've reversed a deletion you made. You zapped Richard L. Walker in February 2007 following it being marked as a copyvio. The article doesn't bear much if any relation to the page referred to in the copyvio notice [2], or any other that I can find on google, so I've been bold and undeleted it.

Hi there, you'll be able to tell I'm brand new to Wikipedia. Thanks for removing the copyright violation notice on this page. I recommend we delete the information from this page and move over the temporary talk page as it does not read like an advertisement as noted. I'll also work on the layout and style as suggested. The article was deleted because it was a copyright violation of [4]. There was no mention on the talk page of the article or on the website that it was released under the GFDL license. If you want the article to be restored you can write a new (non copyvio) version or send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org permitting re-use under the GFDL after which the article can be undeleted. Also realize that if you use words like WikiTerrorism you shouldn't expect much cooperation. Garion96 (talk) 13:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Family Guy Pictures

Hi, you deleted the copyright violation tag in this two pictures: Image:FGBlueHarvest1.jpg and Image:FGBlueHarvest2.jpg. Only for you to know, they were taken of a preview aired in a sci-fi convention, this is an upcoming tv episode, but this images where obtained in a illegal form: The illegal video, was posted on youtube, but the next day Fox demanded youtube to remove the material (as they did). Since the show hasn't been aired in any station I don't know if that invalidates the uploading of this images, but in any case, leave me a message and if you want more extensive information about this just tell me.Mariocossio 02:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

National Bureau of Statistics

Garion96,

Will you be kind enough to explain the deletion of May 18, 2007 in Wikipedia of posted information regarding Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Information provided was obtained from NBS website which is public information and falls under the "Public Domain" guidelines of Wikipedia regarding postings.

As a reminder, find deletion message obtained below while trying to retrieve information:

•18:49, 18 May 2007 Garion96 (Talk | contribs) deleted "National Bureau of Statistics" (content was: '{{copyvio}}')

Will appreciate you getting back to me on this.Ooakiny 05:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Would you please explain why the above article was deleted as a copyright violation? 41.208.199.187 11:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

The article started out as a blatant copyright violation. Although in later edits the contents were changed, there was still enough of the original copyvio left to warrant deletion. Garion96 (talk) 11:17, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Do I understand that an article can be deleted for its appearance during its construction phase? 41.208.199.187 11:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
It depends on how much of the copyright violation is still left. Basically even in the construction face people should NEVER copy & paste text from a copyrighted (non-free) source to Wikipedia. Garion96 (talk) 11:26, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Could you point me to the section of Wiki policy that deals with that aspect? Also could you paste the deleted article text so that it can be compared with http://www.muschel.iway.na/galchmarais1.htm 41.208.199.187 11:37, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Well...for one it is common sense. You don't start an article (or paper or whatever) by copy & pasting another one and then altering it. Two, every time before you save an edit it states "Do not copy text from other websites without a GFDL-compatible license. It will be deleted.". The same of course goes for other than websites. 3:Probably somewhere in Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ or Wikipedia:Copyrights.
I usually have no problem undeleting articles see the message on my userpage, but copyright violations I don't undelete or copy & paste. Garion96 (talk) 11:49, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Removal of copyvio tag from Online M.B.A. Programs

In your edit summary, you said you couldn't find the violation in the above article when you removed the copyvio tag. I placed that tag there due to the text in the middle of the article "The summary below appears with the permission of GetEducated.com..." — and no permission appears on the link given, or anywhere on the web site. Furthermore, that article's talk page makes it pretty clear that the article's existence came about from the author's conflict of interest. =Axlq 00:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Eco-Challenge Article

I noticed that you deleted the entire Eco-Challenge article. As I noted in the discussion, there was never any identified copyright violation, merely a blanket assertion of some type of copyrite problem. The referenced website expressed a clear intention to allow the material to be reproduced in the wikipedia and as soon as you noted that there was not a clear license, a license was added. While I fully appreciate that maintaining third party IP is an important goal, this type of deletion is troubling, especially when an on-going discussion exists attempting to address the issue.

Please reinstate the article or further explain why reinstatement would not be appropriate so that corrective action may be taken. Please note that the home page of the website from which the original poster appeared to believe material was taken now contains the following:

Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, no Front-Cover Texts, and no Back-Cover Texts. Please stop misinformation on Wikipedia

I would like to draw your attention to misinformation conducted by DChall on Wikipedia. In response to my question regarding his claim as “Increasing numbers of MKO members are starting to return to Iran and are claiming asylum”, he has added an article that by no means supports or says such a claim (" Group on U.S. terror list lobbies hard"- United Press International May 31, 2005 ). And this is not the first and the only example for that. For all those who are familiar with the Iranian regime and its opposition 'the PMOI', it is very obvious that such misinformation only supports regime's interests and almost in all cases the regime itself is the source of such misinformation. Therefore, I request you to prevent such misinformation campaign on Wikipedia and let it keep its neutral point of view. Alborz Taha 14:02, 26 July 2007

Hi. Why did you mark this page as a copyright violation? Have you read the original article in Dungeon? The Wikipedia article does little more that list the titles of the "30 Greatest Adventures." The Dungeon article contains a synopis of each adventure and reasons for it being chosen. A simple list is a far cry from legitmate copyright violations.--Robbstrd 00:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Garion, I notice you're active with copyvio issues, wonder if you could take a look at this one.. a user is asserting the above article contains copyrighted material with permission, and a section right in the article reads "Re-produced with permission from www.chrisharrisracing.co.uk". The commons image Image:Chris Harris.jpg also claims the same thing. The primary editor seems unable / unwilling to provide further info about licencing, what parts of the text were copied etc. I'm guessing this is a violation, could you see what you think? Thanks, Deiz talk 02:10, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Not unable/unwilling. Permission sought through contact form on rider website before article written. Permission obtained. Permission for picture same. May I suggest you use the contact form on the website to clarify. Advice sought on how to display permission. Just get pointed at yet another rule page instead of actually receieving any help. Other option is for the admin concerned to rewite the article from the information displayed in form that suits. Quite frankly am getting tired of this. Regards.Hammer1980 11:47, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Seems the article has been paraphrased and might not be an outright copyvio.. have explained to Hammer that permission must be unlimited, clearly stated on the originating website etc.. Cheers, Deiz talk 13:15, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I tried to deal with your stated reason for deletion for Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_July_23#People_by_former_religion. Please re-consider your vote based on my edits diff diff. I have made many similar edits and more are to follow. In addition please review my arguments voiced there, among others that we should not remove the category former Muslims etc. because it is not a defining characteristic of some people, though it is for e.g. Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Following the same reasoning we should not delete the category:painters only because it is not a defining characteristic for some people, like Adolf Hitler. Andries 10:44, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
