License tagging for Image:Yellowstone Falls.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yellowstone Falls.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:07, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Image:IMG 1040.JPG

[edit]

Hi Garrett, I notice that you have licensed most of your photographs under the GFDL; however, Image:IMG 1040.JPG is marked {{Copyrighted}} instead. This tag actually makes the image qualify for speedy deletion, since it's usually used for non-free images from other sources used "by permission" (which is against Wikipedia policy). Therefore, you might want to consider changing the tag on that image quickly before it gets deleted!

Another thing to consider would be to log in at Commons: and upload your photos there instead of here. That way, they can easily be used in other languages' Wikipedias as well. Angr (talk) 11:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice Picture!

Hey, I just noticed you uploaded Image:Tetonsun.JPG and wanted to compliment you on it. We really can use good photographs around here! --Hetar 00:26, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images

[edit]

Why are you uploading duplicates of your images under different names? Jkelly 01:08, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It confused me. I'm sorry to say that I already deleted one as a duplicate upload, but it was probably the wrong one. Jkelly 01:37, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feature picture candidate voting

[edit]

I have noticed several other users on the featured picture candidate voting page that appear to be additional accounts that belong to you. You may not be aware of this, but it is against Wikipedia policy (Wikipedia:Sock puppetry) for one person to use extra accounts to vote more than once. I have gathered evidence that supports my suspicions. If you wish to dispute my suspicions, please comment at evidence. Should you continue to use these extra accounts for multiple votes, these other accounts may be blocked, in accordance with Wikipedia policy. I'd like to add that your pictures are very nice and very welcomed contributions to Wikipedia. But, please stick to using just one account. Thanks. -Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 01:08, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Summaries

[edit]

Can I remind you:

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. —Vanderdeckenξφ 11:34, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:LakeCharlesDevelopment.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LakeCharlesDevelopment.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Louisiana wikipedians

[edit]

Hi, my name is Cory, and I'm working on a story for the Advocate about people in southern Louisiana who create and maintain Wikipedia pages about the area and its inhabitants. I notice you have contributed a fair amount of photography. If you would be willing to participate in an interview for it, could you e-mail me at cbirdsong@gmail.com?

Thanks, Cory

Striking your vote

[edit]

Hello GarrettRock,

Thank you for your interest in the Wikimedia Board Election. The Election Committee regretfully informs you that your previous vote was received in error and will be struck according to the election rules, described below.

The Election Committee regretfully announces today that we will have to remove approximately 220 votes submitted. These votes were cast by people not entitled to vote. The election rules state that users must have at least 400 edits by June 1 to be eligible to vote.

The voter lists we sent to Software in the Public Interest (our third party election partner) initially were wrong, and one of your account was eventually included to our initial list. There was a bug in the edit counting program and the sent list contained every account with 201 or more edits, instead of 400 or more edits. So large numbers of people were qualified according to the software who shouldn't be. The bug has been fixed and an amended list was sent to SPI already.

Our first (and wrong) list contains 80,458 accounts as qualified. The proper number of qualified voters in the SPI list is now 52,750. As of the morning of July 4 (UTC), there are 2,773 unique voters and 220 people, including you, have voted who are not qualified based upon this identified error.

In accordance with voting regulations the Election Committee will strike those approximately 220 votes due to lack of voting eligibility. The list of struck votes is available at https://wikimedia.spi-inc.org/index.php/List_of_struck_votes.

We are aware of the possibility that some of the people affected may have other accounts with more than 400 edits, and hence may still be eligible to vote. We encourage you to consider voting again from another account, if you have one. If you have no other account eligible to vote, we hope you reach the criteria in the next Election, and expect to see your participation to the future Elections.

Your comments, questions or messages to the Committee would be appreciated, you can make them at m:Talk:Board elections/2007/en. Other language versions are available at m:Translation requests/Eleccom mail, 07-05.

Again, we would like to deeply apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,
Kizu Naoko

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lake Charles development.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lake Charles development.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of List of Lake Charles worship centers

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of Lake Charles worship centers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No indication why the worship centres of Lake Charles would be notable. Wikipedia is not a directory.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Archofvines.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
